My first semi successful photo with my new YN-560's. I joined the group after taking the shot so I didn't get down all the techie info but I promise to do so in future.
What I can tell you is that ti was an unmodified YN-560 at about half power to the left and behind the subject. Camera was on manual and I kept adjust the flash until something worked.

New Fall Decor for Downtown Bristol - Oct. 12, 2016. The annual gathering of the corn stalks for the decorating of the Bristol Indiana Town light poles and attaching them to the poles was accomplished last weekend by Board Members and Friends of the Parks. Recently, additional Volunteers, ladies who attended Bristol schools, know as “The Crew,” met with Board Member Linda Powell to begin adding the bows to each of the poles. The bows had been made last year by this same group, and were carefully preserved by the Town Maintenance crew to be reused this year. Additional decorating at the Parks will be done by the Boy and Girl Scout Troops of Bristol. This year, a new addition to the decor will be scarecrows that have been handed out to businesses along Main Street for them to use to decorate the cornstalks that are in front of their businesses. The Bristol Park Board voted to purchase the scarecrows that were on sale to use for this purpose and to store each year for use in future years. Deputy Town Clerk Jill Swartz distributed the scarecrows. So watch for the additions to the Town decor in the near future.

The AVE (Activate, Visit, Experience) is a product of the Resort Area Mobility Plan's (RAMP) engagement process and efforts to balance the needs of the stakeholder groups while aligning with mobility priorities identified by the Resort Area Strategic Action Plan (RASAP), adopted June 2, 2020. Its focus is to improve the experience along Atlantic Avenue. The RAMP Steering Committee reviewed several alternatives for Atlantic Avenue improvements as part of the RAMP community engagement process. A preferred concept was identified for a portion of Atlantic Avenue in January 2021 to move forward with the pilot demonstration project.
Virginia Beach is spending $300,000 on The AVE, and city planners want feedback from the public. The pilot program will help the city figure out what works and what should be considered in future design plans for Atlantic Avenue. Several of the businesses that front the busy thoroughfare hope the changes will improve the resort area’s atmosphere, which many have said has become stagnant.
The demonstration project began September 3, 2021 to activate Atlantic Avenue by repurposing the existing trolley lanes from 17th to 20th St. and replacing them with public art, dedicated active transportation lanes for alternative modes of transportation (bicycles, scooters, etc.), bicycle parking, vehicle parking in the off season, entertainment space, and dining parklets. The purpose is to test and collect data to serve as a foundation for a comprehensive Atlantic Avenue improvements project.

If anything, this exhibition raises more questions than answers. Will we make hay while the sun shines, or when the sensors say? Will visionaries and dreamers reinvent farms as on-demand food forests, skyscrapers, or even theme parks? What crops should we be cultivating now for a very different future: bacon-flavoured seaweed, heirloom potatoes, or fly meat steaks? FIELD TEST will bring you into dialogue with a range of artworks, products, farm hacks, robotics and microfarms that are real field tests: experiments at the boundaries of art, design, science and farming. As part of our Birthday DUB-AMS-[RTM]-AMS-HAM-[TXL]-DUB Tour in April 2016. We enjoyed our combination of planes and trains during our travels in April and would highly recommend such a mix between these two transportation options which also bring greater flexibility and add more choices on “where to go” when out and about exploring our beautiful planet incl. Aer Lingus [DUB-AMS + TXL-DUB], EasyJet [AMS-HAM] and Trains between [AMS-RTM-AMS + HAM-TXL]. Enjoy.
PizzaBuzz is, in a city so full of new restaurant openings, a very good idea indeed. The concept can be summed up (crudely) as âDIY Pizzaâ or "we have the toppings, you do the rest!" or "Subway, but with pizzas!". This doesnât really do it justice however and there is, obviously, much more to it than that - which Iâll now try to elaborate upon:
Essentially the idea is semi-self service pizza/food assembly. You take your place at the start of their "DIY pizza assembly lineâ and prepare yourself a pizza entirely of your own devising (though you donât have to do anything really asides from tell them what you want your pizza to be made of - it arrives pre sliced too, woo!).
You choose from 5 types of bases (gluten free options are available). These range from a âregularâ Margherita (cheese, tomato etc) to the Bianca (white sauce, mozzarella, parmesan) - plus a pretty fkn extensive range of toppings, divided into vegetables, proteins (i.e meats, fish) and cheese. Said toppings include such gastronomic curiosities such as bacon jam and wild rock shrimp. The recommended number of toppings for a pizza is about 4-5, though apparently one guy came in (drunk) on a Friday night once and ordered a £20+ pizza that contained EVERY SINGLE topping they offered. It ended up looking like a pyramid (hahahahaha!)
And, if you donât fancy coming up with your own pizza, their âsignature collectionâ of pre-designed pizzas come in around £10, and have names like Middle Earth and Etna. Once youâve picked your combo of ingredients, it takes them about 1-3 minutes to cook the whole thing in their wood fired ovens - so you might even be able to describe it as fast food. Takeaway is also an option. In the Southern Italian style, you can also get a burrata (and choose what ingredients to have it with, which is the recurring theme...)
As for the ambiance - PizzaBuzz lives inside the brand spanking new Alphabeta development on Worship street. On the inside it has a minimal vibe - almost the feel of an industrial space about it. Except theyâve made it more friendly with offcentre animal illustrations drawn onto the walls (pictured) plus their colourful logo and a recurring love of hexagonal things. Plus staff singing along to the music (not sure if this is an actual feature or if I just came in at the right time ^_^)
I must also tell you about the dough - which took a yearâs development and is quite something (theyâve got a video called âJane Doughâ in which the dough explains this all to you in a Yorkshire accent, lol). Anyway, it comes from a small mill in Oxfordshire and is, unusually, 50% spelt. I am told that this results in better texture, digestibility and mouthfeel than regular pizza. This is a big claim to make, and Iâm not sure I agree - the pizza I had, however, WAS very good and thatâs all I can say about that.
All in all, Pizzabuzz is taking a very good idea from another restaurant (*ahem*) and applying it to pizza very, very well. I wasnât surprised to hear that they have another site opening soon and can see them doing pretty well in future. Inherently, itâs fun, a bit silly, and provides you with a lot more choice than most of the (pizza based) competition. Definitely a place Iâd recommend to everybody (because who the hell doesnât like pizza, really?!)
*SCAPE and Starbucks jointly organised a Barista workshop to give young people better insight into the industry and job opportunities available, as well as explore their interests.
Young people emerge from the event with more knowledge about coffee, appreciation and all are interested to participate in future events that give them insight into industries!
Sad. This is CBGB's in December 2006, closed as of the last couple of months. That classic silver awning is now stripped to its skeleton.
I went to many great shows there when I was a teenager -- the Mumps, Richard Hell and the Voidoids, the Dead Boys, Chris Stamey and the DB's. In future centuries, this site will be considered holy.
I am quite proud of this shot, it was taken at a london fashion show where this beautiful lady kindly posed for a friend and I.The only problem was I set the depth of field a bit too shallow at 3.5. I will live and learn in future!
A result of trying to fit for a profile pic for a website, but, not sure, might use in future if I stare hard enough.

The Turks Head is reputed to date from 1233 when, during the crusades, the Turks invaded Penzance, from Jerusalem. At that time the Turks were excommunicated by Pope Calixtus.
It was the first Inn, in England, to be named ‘The Turks Head’, others adopting the name in future times. Alterations were made during the 16th Century when part of the building was burnt down during the Spanish Invasion. The original building had a courtyard at the front (this is now the main bar).
During the 17th Century, the old cellar, which is now the dining room, was used by naval ratings. There was a smugglers tunnel leading directly to the harbour. The tunnel is still under the property and can be found to the right of the building, the whole of which used to be part of the Turks Head. The tunnel came in to the diner then up a shaft, arriving to the right of what is now the main bar, and then on to the first floor, where priests were hidden in the ‘Priest Holes’. These are still in existence. The second floor was a fisherman’s loft, with two large net doors leading onto the original courtyard. At the rear of the building there used to be both a Band Hall and a Cell for locking up drunks and undesirables.
In the 19th Century, the Landlord of the Turks Head was a Mr Holloway, the son of a pill manufacturer. His son, Thomas Holloway, moved to London and founded the Royal Holloway College. Mowed October 2013. This lawn is roughly 60 by 100 feet. I expect in future years the trees blocking the view of the river will be coming down. Be interesting how next year's pictures open up the view of the river.
12. Shiny: The Glimmer of Hope
They say; “Shiny is our hope, our goal, our dream. It’s all about our interest of living. She is the common sight of our blind eyes. Only she can lead us in future. We do whatever we can.”
Finally, I (photographer) just hope it’s time to take them to the Limelight through my view finder. Amen!

Swan Island Dahlia Festival
About Us
We are dedicating our 2013-2014 season to our beloved family members. Ted Gitts, co owner of Swan Island Dahlias, and his wife Debbie, passed away from a tragic car accident this summer 2013. Our family is devastated by the loss and we have become acutely aware of how life can change in an instant. We will do our best to carry on the values and traditions this family holds dear.
Swan Island Dahlias is the largest and leading dahlia grower in the United States. We are located in the town of Canby, in the rich soil of the Willamette Valley of Oregon. The farm was originally located in Portland, Oregon, with some buildings on Swan Island, which is where the farm’s name was derived from. There was also a roadside stand in Sellwood, a suburb of Portland, so the business was known as both Swan Island Dahlias and Portland Dahlia Gardens at that time. Swan Island Dahlias was moved to Canby, Oregon on rented land in the 1940’s. Around 1953, twenty acres of farmland was purchased in Canby, and the business was relocated to its present site.
Nick and Margaret Gitts purchased Swan Island Dahlias in 1963 and moved their family to Oregon. Previously they owned a dairy farm in Laurel, Washington. Along with their dairy farm, they also owned and operated a small dahlia business on their farm know as Laurel Valley Dahlias. No longer just handling a small acre of dahlias, they were now farming 20 acres of dahlias as well as running the retail mail order and wholesale end of the dahlia business too. Under the Gitts family, the farm has expanded to a little over 40 acres at present. Nicholas and Ted Gitts joined their parents as partners in 1975 and then in 1991, their parents retired from the business. Under Nicholas and Ted, retail sales was expanded, our annual dahlia show became larger, our color catalog became more extensive and all the photography for our catalog is now done by Nicholas Gitts. Next came a computer system to help with our customer base and orders which brought our farming operation and office into a new era.
The family circle continues with Nicholas’ daughters, Jennifer Gitts – Eubanks, and Heather Gitts – Schloe, joining the business, bringing with them more changes and new ideas.
We have lost 3 family members whom we loved dearly. In October of 2007, Nick Sr lost his battle with cancer. Many of our customers had the privilege of meeting him when they visited the farm. He loved hybridizing and creating new varieties from seed and he often referred to his seedlings as "his babies".
This summer, we lost Ted Gitts and his wife Debbie in a tragic car accident. Ted was our "go to" tractor guy. He ran the planter in the spring, and the dahlia digger in the fall. Ted was an avid fisherman and hunter, he loved the outdoors and all it's beauty. They were deeply loved and will be profoundly missed by our family.
Ted and Nick Sr were both very special individuals and the dahlia world has lost two generous people who helped bring much beauty to the world. We are dedicated to continuing the traditions that they both brought to this business.
Swan Island Dahlias has been in operation for over 85 years. The Gitts family has owned and operated the business for over 50 years. We proudly offer the largest full color dahlia catalog in the industry. We hybridize our own new varieties, planting over 10,000 seedlings each year. From those original seedlings, it takes about 4 years to introduce a new seedling for sale. Each season we introduce anywhere from 5 to 15 new varieties which are featured in our catalog and at our farm. We grow over 350 varieties on 40 acres that are open to the public during blooming season, and it is a beautiful sight to behold. We are very proud of Swan Island Dahlias, and the farming tradition our family brings to the business we’ve owned and operated for three generations. We are dedicated to bringing the best and highest quality dahlias the world has to offer now and in future generations to come.

This Art Trail was originally set to happen in 2020 and for obvious reasons was delayed. It was great to see this come to Cambridge as it meant that we could go and take photos around our own city as in other years we had gone to others such as Norwich. There was 1 major cow that is sadly behind closed doors at one of the museums. We tried to find as many of the Mini Moos as possible. Here is hoping that we get to do this again in future years.
