“This photo captures one of our trench supervisors using an iPad to caption field photos that were transferred wirelessly. The development and implementation of this system was one of the things I was responsible for.”
About the project: “With generous support from a Concordia Foundation Fellowship for excavation and research, I was able to return last summer for a fourth season of participation in Oberlin College’s regional archaeological project in the Sangro Valley, located in the Abruzzo region of Italy. As a full staff member, I was primarily in charge of database administration and field recording.
“Last summer, the Sangro Valley Project (SVP) transitioned to its third phase while at the same time moving to a new site toward the base of Monte Pallano in the town of San Giovanni, an area that had never been excavated, but appeared very promising in earlier field surveys. As a part of this third phase, the directors and I decided that it was the perfect time to transition to a more modern form of archaeological recording. Following the success of the University of Cincinnati’s Pompeii Archaeological Research Project: Porta Stabia in using the Apple iPad for paperless recording in 2010, I began developing an integrated excavation database in FileMaker Pro for use on both computers and iPads. The team at the University of Cincinnati, particularly Dr. Steven Ellis and John Wallrodt, were very helpful while I was developing our database, and we were able to exchange some ideas for future avenues of exploration and experimentation.
“During the previous sixteen years, the SVP had employed paper records, Microsoft Access databases, fillable PDFs, Microsoft Excel spreadsheets, and numerous other data formats, with no direct relationships between any sets of data. This meant that it was very difficult to see all of the relevant information about any object, sample, or context (stratigraphic unit). My prior experience as a field school student and trench supervisor allowed me to approach database development from the viewpoint of end users (i.e., the excavators), and I also understood what the strengths and weaknesses of the previous recording methods were. Therefore, three of my primary goals with the project were to improve communication between the labs and the field, cut down on human error, and put much more data at the fingertips of excavators and specialists.”

Llaman no promover discriminación
Amed”. (www.ehui.com/2012/06/07/difieren-periodistas-sonorenses-s...
)
www.sexenio.com.mx/articulo.php?id=15246)

Blacksmiths making farm implements at Ambatovaky, a village of blacksmiths not too distant from the Ranomafana National Park. Their bellows are made from two hollowed-out tree trunks through which a person forces air, like a piston, using cloth wads attached to the ends of two poles. While air in one "cylinder" is being pushed down, the pole in the other is being quickly raised so as to give a continuous air supply to the charcoal fire. The process is physically exerting, which is why young men operate the forges.

Nov. 14, 2020. The much awaited event of the year, the Annual Teachers’ Conference of this year, was held on 6th June,2017 at the Golden Glory Hall of Karnavati Club. It was attended by trustees, directors, teachers and staff of Udgam School and Zebar School. The compere for the day, Mrs. Sarmishtha Sinha, teacher of Udgam Senior Secondary section, unfolded the events of the day in an eloquent manner. The day began with a prayer song followed by lighting of the lamp by the trustees of the school Shri G. K. Choksi, Dr. Shaunak Muzumdar and Shri Sandeep Parikh alongwith Shri Rajabhai Pathak and Executive Director Shri Manan Choksi and Directors Ms Radhika Iyer, Ms Pratima Patell and Mrs Villoo Parikh and Principal Mrs. Sujata Tandon. Homage was paid by Ms. Radhika Iyer to the dynamic and revered trustee of the school, Late Shri V. C. Shah, who left for his heavenly abode this year leaving a deep void. A motivating speech by veteran educationist, Shri Rajabhai Pathak, left a deep impact on the audience. The Motivational Speaker of the conference was Sister Shivani who has been a member of Brahma Kumari’s World Spiritual University for more than two decades. It was a proud privilege for the school to have her as a speaker. She enthralled the audience with her deep and meaningful words. She spoke at length about the need for unity, harmony and the values of teamwork. She also addressed issues such as tackling stress in teachers and students, how to instill self discipline and motivated the teachers with her enlightening thoughts. The rapt audience listened in awe as pearls of wisdom poured forth and brought to the fore ideas and realisations that had been hidden away somewhere in the recesses of the being. Next on the agenda were the presentations by the different sections of teachers and non-teaching group of Udgam School about successes and failures of the year 2016-17 and plans for 2017-18. The groups presented their ideas well with beautiful success stories, a few failures and their plans for the future. When Executive Director Shri Manan Choksi went onstage to speak, the audience was agog to listen to his dynamic and out-of-the-box ideas. Shri Choksi mainly spoke about how the future is no longer what we believed it to be, a thought well ahead of its time. Then he went on to explain the concept by giving examples from the educational sector. He also stressed on the need to improve English in order to emerge as a world class English medium school. The Zebar success story, wherein the implementation of the best practices of Udgam School in Zebar School through Udgam Consultancy skyrocketed the number of admissions from a mere 200 to a whopping 1600 in less than 8 months, was also mentioned as it is a huge example of how success of one school has influenced another’s. Awards are a form of motivation for those who get it as well as those who don’t make it. Udgam School has an accomplished and dedicated team of teachers and staff and it is quite tough to decide who are more deserving. As special cases of being first among equals, several members of the fraternity were given awards for their performance in the year 2016-17. Finally, Mrs. Manjari Jain, Vice Principal of Senior Secondary section, gave the Vote of Thanks. Of course there was a delightful lunch spread which was also the time for socializing and swapping ideas. The Annual Teachers’ Conference of 2017 was a grand success where motivation met team work to rejoice in the past and renew plans for the future.

While the museum is mostly about motorcycles there are odd other things like this farm implement. I'm not sure what you call these; some kind of mower I suppose.

Kavalcare Solar System for Jhpiego Mid-Wife Clinic Dec8, 2014
Every year, 12,000 women in Pakistan die of birth complications. The Maternal, Newborn and Child Health (MNCH) Services Component, implemented by MCHIP/Jhpiego, aims at preventing maternal, newborn, and child deaths by ensuring skilled birth attendance (SBA) through a total market approach, empowered community, timely referral of obstetric and neonatal complications to an emergency obstetric and newborn care (EmONC) facility, and improved access to child care.
Lack of electricity in remote areas is a major issue that often leads to obstetric complications and newborn deaths. Refrigerated storage is vital for the effectiveness of life saving drugs and vaccines. Ice boxes are used in remot areas of this purpose but it is an ineffective method especially when easy availability of ice is a problem. To overcome these issues, Lodhie Foundation in association with Maternal and Child Health Integrated Program/JHPIEGO, extended its Kavalcare program and provided a Solar Powered System to a remote clinic located at village Haji Usman Jhakro near Makli, District Thatta. System provides sufficient power to operate a small refrigerator, a fan and 3 lamps 24 hours a day and 7 days a week. It was designed, manufactured and installed by Shaan Technologies private Limited Karachi. After installation of Solar System in August 2014, this small remote clinic is serving a community of 10,000 plus persons who lives in village Haji Usman and surrounding areas. On an average 10 patients visits this clinic each day. Clinic also provides up to 15 birth attendance and new born care in a month.
