From Implementation, a sticker novel by Nick Montfort and Scott Rettberg (nickm.com/implementation)

The title may be a bit harsh. I have never been bothered by going to the Dentist. I am not afraid of needles, and I have had root canals and extractions with no problem. However, I had an appointment yesterday to have a filling "repaired". There was a chip in an existing filling and my Dentist said she could go in, drill it out and make it pretty again. No problem. Right? WRONG! She gave me the shot. I was left alone to get good and numb. After about 10 minutes or so, she goes in with the drill. I could feel it. So I waved her off and she decided to give me two more shots. I was left alone for 10 more minutes to get even number. She goes in again with Mr. Drill. I could still effing feel it. So, after enduring three shots in the gum, she decided to wait until next week so I could take an anti-inflammatory for seven days. My whole head was numb for six hours or so. Joy.

2 roads are outlined on the ground, each leading a gate. The gates open to a 3°C and 1,5ºC world respectively. A person representing ministers will be on the road leading to the 3°C world. Pushing a globe, representing that the ministers are pushing the whole world ahead of them regardless of where they go. He gets to a crossing where he can enter the 1.5 degree world road. But in order to enter he has to pass 5 people and shake hands with them to succeed on the 1.5C road. The crowd enjoin him to take the safe road, the road to 1.5C, despite the difficulties and obstacles. The minister has to interact with and pass each of the five processes before they are able to proceed on the 1.5C road.

At a news conference in the Afghan capital of Kabul today, UNAMA released ‘

A Way to Go: An Update on Implementation of the Law on the Elimination of

Violence against Women in Afghanistan.’ Produced jointly with the Office of

the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), the annual report found

that Afghan authorities registered more reports of violence against women

under the law on the Elimination of Violence against Women (EVAW law) over

the past year, but prosecutions and convictions under the law remained low,

with most cases settled by mediation. “The EVAW law, when it is applied,

has provided protection to Afghan women facing violence,” said UNAMA’s

Director of Human Rights, Georgette Gagnon (shown in right image). “But

most women victims still remain largely unprotected due to a lack of

investigation into most incidents and continued under reporting of

pervasive violence against women and girls resulting from discrimination,

existing social norms and cultural practices, and fear of reprisals and

threat to life.” Enacted in 2009, the EVAW law criminalizes acts of

violence against women and harmful practices including child marriage,

forced marriage, forced self-immolation, baad (giving away a woman or girl

to settle a dispute) and 18 other acts of violence against women including

rape and beating. It also specifies punishment for perpetrators.

We are pleased to announce that Prince George’s County (MD), in partnership with Corizon and CorrecTek, went live with the CorrecTek Electronic Medical Record on September 21st. Under the leadership of Corenne Labbe, Stephanie Walton and Abu Kalokoh from Prince George’s County, and the Corizon implementation project team led by Wesley Newell and Karen Olsen, the transition to a fully electronic EMR will help the clinical staff to provide enhanced patient care.

Abu commented on the benefits that he is already noticing, “When a clinician can easily access radiology reports, lab reports, MARs and blood sugar results, you can visualize and record his or her satisfaction during sick call encounters.” He followed up by commenting, “Managers can just about know what clinicians are doing at any time by the System Timeline,” and ended by commenting that the “EHR is invaluable in accessing medical information on a timely basis.”

On behalf of the implementation team, we appreciate the willingness of the entire staff to embrace CorrecTek. Please join me in congratulating the Prince George’s team for their dedication during this transition.

"The rich array of lithic implements excavated at the Sanxingdui site, particularly those from the two pits, demonstrate that the people of Shu had developed a sophisticated ritual system supported by strong state power no later than the Shang dynasty period. Jades served a multiplicity of functions in ancient times and influenced every aspect of human life. As means of communication with gods and heavenly realms, jades were esteemed. Most of the lithic artifacts at Sanxingdui were ritual implements, which were part of the material expression of the political and religious culture of the state of Shu. Among them, bi disks and zhang blades were most important: the former used for worshipping heaven, the latter for sacrificing to the mountains. The people of Shu communicated with spirits, gods and heaven realms primarily through their worship of mountains".
