The SFI-AISF congratulates the JNU student community for the mandate in favour of the Left Alliance of the SFI-AISF. This year's JNUSU elections were held in the backdrop of the decision taken by the Central Government to implement 27% reservation for the OBCs in all Central educational institutions. The entry of the Youth ror (In) Equality itno the electoral fray had, for all practical purposes, converted the JNUSU elections 2006 into a referendum on the reservation policy and the agenda of social justice. The strident anti-reservation campaign of the Youth for (In) Equality was deliberately hyped up by the elitist media and overtly supported by the anti-reservation lobby within the faculty and the JNU Administration. Despite desperate attempts to secure a victory of the Youth for (In) Equality from various qu~rters. the JNU students have rejected this anti-reservation platform and voted in favour of pro-reservation forces, especially the .

SFI-AISF, the most consistent advocates and passionate defenders of reservation policy. Through this histone mandate, .
the JNU student community has carried forward the glorious legacy of the JNU student movement, which has believed .
since its inception that JNU can meaningfully contribute to the society and play its rightful role in nation building only if academic excellence is combined with equality of opportunity for the deprived sections through affirmative action !ike reservations and the deprivation points system. SFI-AISF pledges to pursue this mandate for 27% OBC reservation, along with the 54% seat increase in JNU. SFI-AISF will also pursue on an urgent basis, the issues on which an agreement was signed with the JNU Administration like enhancement of MCM scholarship amount to Rs 1000 for B.NM.A. and Rs. 1500 for M. Phil/Ph. 0, student representation in AC/EC along with the revitalization of the GSCASH and the Equal Opportunity Office. .

The SFI-AISF has won in the posts of President and Joint Secretary in the Central panel along with 3 Councillors each in SSS and SIS, 2 in SLL&CS and 1 in SA&A. One candidate each from SFI-AISF and AISA were tied in the 51h position for the Councillor posts in SSS and SIS. According to the JNUSU Constitution a repoll will have to be conducted among the tied candidates at a subsequent date. The mandate in favour of the SFI-AISF reflects broad support for our campa1gn against imperialism, particularly the reckless militarism of the Bush Administration and the effort on the part of the UPA Government to forge a strategic alliance with it. This mandate would surely strengthen the spirited resistance put up by the Left Parties against the neoliberal policies being pursued at the Centre. The victory of the SFI-AISF is also a fitting rebuff to the cheap slander and anti-Left propaganda carried out by several organizations contesting the elections this year, especially the ABVP, which has been severely punished by the student community for its political bankruptcy. .
A vicious last minute campaign was carried out questioning the important achievement of the JNUSU led agitat1on regarding enhancement of MCM scholarship. The agreement between the JNUSU and the Administration clearly states that the increase has already been agreed upon and will be implemented after the approval of AC/EC in their next ·-r.eetings. The next meeting of the AC (Academic Council) is scheduled for 21 51 November. The date for the next EC {Ex~c~tive Council) meeting is yet to be finalised but it shall be held before the end of this year. The increased MCM amount will be available to students by January. The eligible students would get the arrears of the MCM scholarship for the current semester when the money is released. .
The SFI-AISF pledges to implement all the issues raised in our Election Manifesto in the coming days. We seek the cooperation of other elected representatives and the student community in order to ensure a vibrant JNUSU The SFI-AISF thanks the JNUSU Election Committee for conducting another free and fair elections in keeping with the democra'tc traditions of JNU. .

e were approached by a Training Consultant who was just about to recruit an additional person to the admin team. This was seen as a necessary investment as late and incorrect invoice had recently resulted in non-payment of some big invoices - for the following reasons:
The commercial process was driven by spreadsheet trackers - capturing client details, a log of training completed, invoice due dates, invoice submission dates and invoice payment dates, enabling daily forwarding and update by the team. A well thought out process but relied on all members of the team entering information correctly and forwarding an updated copy saved with a new date in the file-name.
Trackers were often updated/saved without updating the filename.
Invoices had been sent to the wrong clients.
Invoices had been sent to the correct clients but to the incorrect billing address.
Invoices had been sent with incorrect purchase order details.
The cash banked was usually less than the total shown in the trackers.
They said they would really like to invest in an electronic solution such as Quick-Books, but said it seemed costly and was not sure it provided the visibility needed.
Our recommendation was actually Quick Books, as this is a decent end to end solution which handles electronic UK VAT submissions to HMRC. bit.ly/388UeXw
