At the foot of al-Habees and the towering rock of Umm al-Biyara, stands the building for which the Arched Gate and paved temenos were designed, the least damaged by time or earthquakes of all the built monuments of Petra. Its full name, Qasr al-Bint Far'oun (the palace of Pharaoh's daughter) indicates that it too is touched by legend. The princess, it is said, announced that she would marry the first man to channel water to her palace. Since two men succeeded on the same day, the princess asked both how they had done it. The first declared that it was by his own power and that of his men. The second replied, 'With God's power, my power and the power of my men and my camels'; and the princess chose this more modest and godly suitor. As she did so, the wing of a locust fell into the channel of the rejected suitor, and this fragile object halted the flow of water and could not be removed, thus confirming the princess's wise choice.
The name of the building belies its function for this was no palace but the most important temple in Petra. Passing beneath the triple-arched gate, worshippers made their way across the long, narrow temenos to sacrifice at the open altar which faces the temple. The priests would mount the steps and pass under the high arch into the temple itself. In its heyday the walls were covered with decorative plasterwork both inside and out, some of which can still be seen on the outside. Inside only small fragments survive, but the base stone is pocked with holes that once held the elaborate, all-covering plaster in place.
In the holy of holies at the back of the temple stood the image of the deity to whom the temple was dedicated, the focus of worship. In 1959 Peter Parr found a gigantic marble hand, part of the cultic statue which must once have stood at least six metres high in this sanctuary. Its human, rather than block-like, form shows clearly that it represented one of the foreign deities with which the Nabataean gods were identified. Fragments of two dedicatory inscriptions in Greek were also found here – one to Aphrodite and another to Zeus Hypsistos ('most high'). While Dushara was identified with Zeus, this particular definition of Zeus as 'hypsistos' is more commonly associated with the adopted Syrian god Ba'al-Shamin. This may indicate that this important temple had a dual dedication – to Ba'al-Shamin-Zeus and to al-'Uzza-Aphrodite.
Qasr al-Bint was once thought to date to the second century AD, in the early years of Roman rule in Petra. But during the 1964 excavations in the temenos a Nabataean dedicatory inscription to Aretas IV was found on a statue base in the bench which had been added to the temenos wall. In 1990 Dr Fawzi Zayadine found another dedication to Aretas IV in a similar position. These revised all thoughts of a Roman date and the temple is now revealed as Nabataean, and not later than the turn of the millennium. Since the temple itself must have pre-dated both the temple wall and the (missing) statue of Aretas IV with the inscription on the base, it is thought that it may date to the time of Aretas' predecessor, Obodas III, or even Malichus I.
Excavations by French archaeologists, who have been working in the temenos and surrounding areas since 1999, have added to our understanding of what happened in this part of Petra before, during and after the Nabataean period. Soundings done both within the temenos and beyond the western wall of the precinct, indicate that it was occupied in the Hellenistic period, and that there were houses here before the Nabataeans paved the temenos. Also in the Nabataean period, a substantial building was constructed immediately to the east of the temple – with its monumental entrance opening directly from the temenos, it was clearly an integral part of the temple complex, though its function is still unclear.
Sometime after the Roman annexation in AD 106, a smaller marble-clad altar was constructed in the north-west corner of the temenos; and later a western wall was built with an imposing curved exedra in the middle, flanked by columns and niches. Inscriptions found during the excavation of the exedra refer to Marcus Aurelius and Lucius Verus, co-emperors in 161-169; and the discovery of a bust of Lucius Verus in the wadi nearby in the mid-1990s, and another of Marcus Aurelius next to the exedra in 2004, suggest that this whole structure may have been built in their honour. The complete white marble statues would have stood more than life size. Both the exedra and the upper part of the temple were damaged in the fourth century (probably in the earthquake of 363), after which the exedra was levelled and a house was built over and behind it, only to be destroyed in the following century.
In the Byzantine period the area was reoccupied and part of it became a cemetery; and in the twelfth century the Crusaders used some of the fallen stones from Qasr al-Bint to build the small fort on top of the rock of al-Habees behind the temple.

Por medio de la enseñanza de las palabras de Dios, al final todos ven el origen del problema, así como las peligrosas consecuencias de seguir al clero por la senda de las Tres Autonomías y venderse al régimen satánico. También aprenden a discernir la naturaleza de anticristos de los pastores y ancianos, y se disponen a rechazar a estos fariseos religiosos y estudiar la aparición y obra del Señor.

Why build an automotive museum? Because one way or another, our lives are touched by the automobile. We remember our parents’ cars, the ones we traveled in with family, the ones we borrowed for our first car date, the first ones we bought. The fast cars, the junkers, the modified ones and the ones we rebuilt—all of them are tied to us in memory. We even dream of cars.
William E. Backer, former owner of Backer Potato Chip Company in Fulton, Missouri, looked back in time and found that a vintage automobile was a thing of fascination. His memories were of old country roads and two lane highways. Bill Backer was an engineer and a builder who loved to tinker. Having built a successful potato chip company, he looked back at the cars that were part of his childhood. Shortly after, he owned a Canadian 1924 Dodge Touring. Dark blue with black fenders and a cloth top. Bill drove his family around the back country roads of Callaway County, Missouri and felt himself touching fading memories.
Not long after he collected the Dodge, Bill had a 1909 Ford Model T. Soon after that, a 1930 Model A. Then a 1929 Cord, a 1931 Rolls Royce Phantom II, a 1957 Chevy Bel Air, and so on. By the mid 1990’s, the number of classic autos in the collection neared 100. Bill found a home for many of his classic cars in an old retail building in Fulton. The Auto World Museum Foundation was formed and a classic car museum was opened to the public. Ten years later, in 2006, the automobile museum was moved to its current home at 200 Peacock Drive in Fulton. It is a building dedicated to the history of vintage and modern automobiles as well as the history of Callaway County and Fulton, Missouri.
After his passing in 2008, his daughter, Vicki McDaniel, assumed leadership of the museum and the collection of cars. Since then, the collection of vintage autos has changed a little. However, her primary passion is for the presentation of antique cars and modern ones in a place that everyone can visit.
The presentation of cars and staging of the museum is the vision of Tom K. Jones, Artistic Director of TKJ Designs in Fulton, Missouri. His concept for the museum was a movement through time and a portrayal of the history of Callaway County, Missouri. Auto World Museum is a stage—a movement through history. Its deep black curtains, scenes from back when, panels of advertising and memorabilia will take you through a history of motion in time. At first, you will visit a period not that long ago, although some say 100 years is a long time. As you move in a clockwise direction through the museum, you will find enticing displays. The simplicity of family drives in the convertible. The decadence of Hollywood and its fancy cars. The sights and sounds of the drive-in as you watched from the comfort of your Studebaker or Corvair. You will ponder when gas prices were really, really low. Finally, you will find yourself nearing the future, with displays of alternative fuel vehicles.
Auto World Museum will spark your curiosity. We hope that you will find that our collection of vintage and modern automobiles fascinates you the way that it did Bill Backer. We hope you will continue the journey with us as we add to the collection over time. We would like to thank William Harrison for his dedication to the research on the autos in the museum.

M81 & M82 - Bode and Cigar Galaxies

ENG: M81 is the principal member of the “M81 Group” which is composed of 34 galaxies 12 million of light years distant from us. M81, M82 and NGC3077 strongly interact with each other and this leads to increasing their star formation activity.
Since the star formation process of M82 is very strong compared to other galaxies, it's classified as “Starburst Galaxy”.
Some numbers: M81 contains 250 billion of stars and it’s far from the “near” M82 just about 200.000 light years, twice the diameter of our galaxy.
ITA: M81 è il membro principale del “Gruppo di M81” costituito da 34 galassie poste ad una distanza media di 12 milioni di anni luce. M81, M82 e NGC3077 interagiscono fortemente tra loro, questo porta ad un incremento della loro attività di formazione stellare.
Proprio per questo motivo M82 viene definita una galassia starbust, ovvero una galassia in cui il processo di formazione stellare è molto spinto rispetto alle altre galassie. Un’attività così spinta, però, porta ad un più veloce esaurimento delle scorte della stessa galassia.
Alcuni numeri: M81 contiene 250 miliardi di stelle e dista dalla compagna (M82) circa 200.000 anni luce, praticamente solo il doppio del diametro della nostra galassia.

The Boeing B-17 is by far the most famous bomber of World War II. In 1934 the Boeing Aircraft Company of Seattle Washington began construction of a four engine heavy bomber. Known as the Model -299, first flight was achieved on July 28th 1935. As a result, the U.S. Government placed an order for production of 13 of these aircraft and began to take delivery of the 13 production aircraft between January 11th and August 4th 1937.
The B-17, dubbed the “Flying Fortress” as a result of her amount of defensive firepower, underwent a number of improvements over its ten-year production run. B-17 Models ranged from the YB-17 to the B-17G model. Throughout the war the B-17 was refined and improved as the combat experience showed the Boeing designers where improvements could be made. The Final B-17 production model, the B-17G was produced in the largest quantities (8,680) than any other previous model and is considered the definitive “Flying Fortress”. With its 13 .50-caliber machine guns, Chin, top, ball and tail turrets; waist and cheek guns the B-17 was indeed an airplane that earned the respect of its combatants. In addition, the flight crews loved the B-17 for her ability to take and withstand heavy combat damage and return safely home.
During WWII, the B-17 saw service in every theater of operation, but was operated primarily by the 8th Air force in Europe and participated in countless missions from bases in England. A typical B-17 Mission often lasted for more than eight hours and struck targets deep within enemy territory. During the war, B-17’s dropped 640,036 tons of bombs on European targets in daylight raids. This compares to the 452,508 tons dropped by the B-24 and 464,544 tons dropped by all other U.S. aircraft. The B-17 also downed 23 enemy aircraft per 1,000 raid as compared with 11 by B-24’s and 11 by fighters and three by all U.S. medium and light bombers.
There were a total of 12,732 B-17’s that were produced between 1935 and May 1945. Of these 4,735 were lost in combat. Following WWII, the B-17 saw service in three more wars. B-17’s were used in Korea, Israel used them in the war of 1948 and they were even used during Vietnam.
Today, fewer than 100 B-17 airframes exist and fewer still are in airworthy condition. At one time, more than 1000 B-17’s could be assembled for mass combat missions, now less than 15 of Boeings famous bombers can still take to the sky.
The Smith Family Log Cabin Home - where Joseph Smith lived in 1820, near Palmyra, NY. (This re-creation of the Smith family cabin stands on the same location as the original.) The forest behind the cabin is know as the "Sacred Grove."
The large Sugar Maple tree in the foreground is believed to be older than the original cabin. It was struck by lightning in the summer of 2008, and is no longer standing! The Smiths tapped about 1,500 maple trees each season to produce an average of 1,000 pounds of sugar; and most of those maple trees grew in this grove.
This photograph was taken in May. No fancy, HDR software manipulation--just general photoshop adjustments and good photography skills.

Todos piensan que las bendiciones son dulces palabras,
y no amargura.
Pero compartir la amargura de Dios
es también compartir la dulzura.
Es la promesa de Dios y Su bendición.
Déjalo todo, protege el testimonio de Dios.
Ese debe ser tu objetivo.
Pero aún te hace falta fe, aún careces discernimiento,
y claridad sobre la palabra y la voluntad de Dios.

Todos necesitan superar estas pruebas,

también son de Dios bendiciones.
¿Cuántos se han humillado ante Dios a menudo
para suplicar Su bendición?

Wildlife Photography Boot Camp
Our location is the largest zoological park in the world, and with over 100 different species from the five continents, this is the perfect place to learn all the basics of wildlife photography.
This was shot on a late afternoon when it suddenly started to rain heavily. Instead of staying inside, I encouraged my group to go out and use the rain as an interesting bonus. This Watusi family preferred to stay dry though.
