Spent more time on this shot than many, trying to decide what to do with it.....sitting on my desktop, looking, experimenting....and then just letting go of the whole process and hoping I could post how I saw the moon on that particular night.....with the softly colored aura around it, the beauty of it....

Picnik a great help here with its easily used tools....and some light texturing (Picnik) to soften some pixelation.

******

Any ideas you might have on moon shots, I'd like to hear.....I think my telephoto not good enough....and as well (gasp)...it could be me, the photographer!

Canon XSi, Canon 55-250mm lens, ISO 1600, WB set at sunlight (awhile ago a pro had told me to do that), monopod.....forgot to set 2 sec. timer, might have helped.

So glad you stopped by and hoping your week is going well for you....

Playing around on sliders sunday - but that sky is real! After a storm last week. Today its sunny and beautiful and I wish it was Friday again. Sigh....

Another shot of the Aurora Borealis taken at Jökulsarlón in Iceland from my trip this January. I must admit I found this hard to photograph and even harder to process. You need a really fast lens set to infinity (surprisingly not the easiest thing to do on a non-manual autofocus lens) to get the stars sharp and pretty high ISO; in this case 1600. The resulting photographs are very grainy. I normally wouldn’t shoot past ISO 400 with my 5D-III. Post processing accentuates the grain too, and the foreground is just too gritty for my liking, but the scene was amazing.

"All parts of the plant are poisonous (contains hydrocyanic acid) and could be fatal if ingested. The plant is placed in Toxicity Category 4, the category "generally considered non-toxic to humans,"5 However, the berries are considered toxic to cats and grazing animals.6 The berries also contain alkaloids such such as nantenine, which is used in scientific research as an antidote to MDMA (3,4-methylenedioxymethamphetamine), the drug commonly known as ecstasy). Birds are generally unaffected by these toxins, and will disperse the seeds. through their droppings. However, excessive consumption of the grains can kill birds such as Bombycilla cedrorum". Sun! Snow! Trains! Does it get much better than this?

I awake to find the snow has stopped and the sky is relatively clear. Crossing my fingers, I get the bus towards Wassen. Its still well shaded in the valley but the skies are clear, and by the time the long, steep slog through the snow up the hill to the lookout point is behind me, the sun is almost here.

I'm joined by Peter B who is the Am-Fet of Swiss rail gen and an excellent photographer. Is this the coolest train ever? www.flickr.com/photos/croco67368/24921357085/in/dateposted/

on my way(4 times)

i would like to reach out my hand

how may see you

how may tell you to run

you know what they say about the young

Well pick me up with golden hand

how may see you

Well I would like to hold my little hand

How we will run we will

How we will crawl we will

Capturing an unbelievable sunrise sky over Marblehead Harbor.

"Go on little bird, share it with the world that I am in Love"

Obtaining a satisfactorily clear scene of the Tian Shan (heavenly) mountain range proved to be a task, either they were concealed by mist or the wind was too strong for the locomotive's exhaust. It almost came together on 18 January, but the clarity had deteriorated by the time 'JS' 8081 emerged from the loader in the Sandaoling opencast mine with its train. The highest peak of the range is 7,439 metres.

At once mythical and medieval, France's Camargue is southern Provence is home to cowboys, gypsies, black bulls, wild white horses and graceful pink flamingos. The pink flamingos of the Carmargue can be seen from both the roads and the walking trails, though they’re sometimes just glinting dots in the distance on a vast lake. To see these strange and beautiful birds up close, make the journey to Parc Ornithologique du Pont de Gau, around three miles north of Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer.

Simon Vouet, c.1640

... also known as The poisoned Glen.

According to legend, the huge ice-carved hollow of the Poisoned Glen got its name when the ancient one-eyed giant king of Tory, Balor, was killed here by his exiled grandson, Lughaidh, whereupon the poison from his eye split the rock and poisoned the glen. The less interesting truth, however, lies in a cartographic gaffe. Locals were inspired to name it An Gleann Neamhe (The Heavenly Glen), but when an English cartographer mapped the area, he carelessly marked it An Gleann Neimhe – The Poisoned Glen. In Ireland the English get the blame of everything.

"Jane Smith Russell had the church built as a memorial to her husband, James Russell, landlord of the Dunlewey Estate, who died on 2nd September 1848. James Russell was laid to rest in a vault under the church floor. The church was consecrated on 1st September 1853 as a Chapel of Ease to Tullaghabegley. Tullaghabegley was the parish consisting of the present day Gweedore and Cloughaneely parishes.

The church is built of white marble and blue quartzite which was quarried locally. The supply of marble in the nearby quarry has now been depleted. The red brick in the arches of the windows was produced locally. Remenants of the brickfield are still visible near Oilean Ghrainne when the level of the lake is lowered.

A two storey rectory was built in the nearby Glebe. This field, part of the Dunlewey Estate, is now forested. James Henry Bor was the only full time rector to reside in the rectory. He was nominated by Jane Russell on the 6th of September 1856 and later was installed as rector of Raymunterdoney in 1872. The church is at present under the curacy of the combined parish of Gweedore, Templecrone and Carrickfinn.

Buried in a large communal grave is Dr. Frazer Brady (died March 1877), his wife Fanny, who was a daughter of James and Jane Russell (died December 1900) and four of their ten children: Jane Russell died February 1851 aged 3 months; Mary died April 1860 aged 3 months; Valentine Pole Griffiths died April 1868 aged 4 years; and Hugh Woodhams died January 1876 aged 19 years.

Also interred in the surrounding graveyard is Richard Lewis Crankshaw, owner of Dunlewey Estate, who died 29th November 1929. His wife Nellie who died in 1946 is buried in the graveyard of the local R.C. chapel. Her grave faces this church and her husbands grave.

With the decline of the Dunlewey Estate the potential and Protestant congregation diminished as was the case from all over Donegal (www.wesleyjohnston.com/users/ireland/past/protestants_186... ) and the church was not in regular use. The expense of the upkeep and the passage of time added to the deterioration of the church. In 1955 the roof was removed as a safety measure. It's furniture and fittings were distributed to other churches within the diocese of Derry and Raphoe. The bell is now installed in Cashel Church of Ireland near Doe Castle.
