One would think this photo was taken in flight from an airplane but actually, I captured this magical moment from my 11th floor apartment window. My window was partially frosted, the temperature outside was deep freeze -25C Windchill overlooking the Toronto skyline. When I focused on the sunrise, the ice turned to brilliant diamonds and a flock of pigeons flew by. To me it is a magical moment. A heavenly sight. Freedom, bliss and warmth.
Long day traveling to Sodus Bay, Rochester and home (Western New York). The sunset peaked as we hit Wilson NY so I had to stop and shoot it from the old cement pier. I normally prefer to zoom in more when the sun is still visible but the most amazing light was on the various cloud tops to either side so a wide angle shot was required. via 500px ift.tt/2aKY7mh
“It's not what you look at that matters, it's what you see.” ~ Henry David Thoreau “Set your sight on a heavenly azimuth.” ~ Me
“Really, what profit is there for you to gain the whole world and lose yourself in the process?” ~ Jesus (Mark 8: 36)
“The kingdom of heaven is like a treasure that is hidden in a field. A crafty man found the treasure buried there and buried it again so no one would know where it was. Thrilled, he went off and sold everything he had, and then he came back and bought the field with the hidden treasure part of the bargain.
Or the kingdom of heaven is like a jeweler on the lookout for the finest pearls. When he found a pearl more beautiful and valuable than any jewel he had ever seen, the jeweler sold all he had and bought that pearl, his pearl of great price.” ~ Jesus (Matthew 13: 44-46)
“If we find ourselves with a desire that nothing in this world can satisfy, the most probable explanation is that we were made for another world.” ~ C.S. Lewis
For years my daughter has fostered dogs and cats, finding homes for pets. Now she aspires to create an open environment for potential pets and owners in Los Angles.

Day 274
Playing around with Lightroom today. I feel this has a slightly tacky look. Maybe it could go on the cover of a Songs of Praise album or something...
Nice accident...ha-ha!

"There's a certain Slant of light,
Winter Afternoons –
That oppresses, like the Heft
Of Cathedral Tunes –
Heavenly Hurt, it gives us –
We can find no scar,
But internal difference –
Where the Meanings, are –
None may teach it – Any –
'Tis the seal Despair –
An imperial affliction
Sent us of the Air –
When it comes, the Landscape listens –
Shadows – hold their breath –
When it goes, 'tis like the Distance
On the look of Death –"
- Emily Dickinson (Poem 320).
I have to admit when I first saw this gravestone I was quite amazed. It brought to mind some of the old Puritan gravestones I'd seen in New England years ago. I've never seen another quite like it in Tasmania. All the more incredible it dates from 1923, not 1823. A finger pointing to heaven (as long as it is the correct finger) is a symbol well known. The Jesus People used it in the 1970s, "One Way to Heaven", as Larry Norman sang.
As I did some research on graveyard symbolism I did in fact find some examples. Some people thought it might be a symbol of Divine judgment: "Here lies a sinner." But obviously that is not the case here, as Blanche was clearly the "Beloved wife of Arthur Wells". But I did find an example that made sense, right down to the broken chain under the finger.
www.cityofgroveok.gov/building/page/hand-finger-pointing-...
This symbol represents "the hand of God descending from heaven to lift the soul. The finger pointing down does not indicate damnation; instead it most commonly represents an untimely, sudden, or unexpected death." Now since poor Blanche died much beloved at 50, that explanation makes complete sense. And the broken chain is exactly what Emily Dickinson is talking about in her (as always) deliberately ambiguous poem about death on a Winter's afternoon. You'll notice that the day Blanche died was almost 98 years to the day from this Winter late afternoon I spent in the Carr Villa Memorial Park.
Do you get moments when you suddenly feel you're in the right place at the right time? Rest in peace dear Blanche, and Arthur too. 'Saint' Emily understood: "When it comes, the Landscape listens –
Shadows – hold their breath –
When it goes, 'tis like the Distance
On the look of Death –"

Spent more time on this shot than many, trying to decide what to do with it.....sitting on my desktop, looking, experimenting....and then just letting go of the whole process and hoping I could post how I saw the moon on that particular night.....with the softly colored aura around it, the beauty of it....
Picnik a great help here with its easily used tools....and some light texturing (Picnik) to soften some pixelation.
******
Any ideas you might have on moon shots, I'd like to hear.....I think my telephoto not good enough....and as well (gasp)...it could be me, the photographer!
Canon XSi, Canon 55-250mm lens, ISO 1600, WB set at sunlight (awhile ago a pro had told me to do that), monopod.....forgot to set 2 sec. timer, might have helped.
So glad you stopped by and hoping your week is going well for you....
