Outstanding performance given by the French Company "Groupe F -Like Fire-" and performed at The Château de Versailles, in the Orangerie.
The spectacle mixes Baroque Music, Fireworks and some ballets played by "fireworks men" !
Very impressive …

Given I didn't intend for the BG to get blown out as badly as it did, I still think this turned out really well :D
I miss summer somethin' fierce. I got my bathing suit today, and it fits perfectly! Eek, I'm so excited. I can't wait to do some shoots in it :P I got it from here.I love their stuff (: I can only afford to shop there like every six months though, lol :P
Expired film&sooc.
+2 in comments! I had fun editing (:
Well Christmas has taken it's toll on me and given me very little time over the past week! :( however, with the little time I did manage to get I have been getting to know my Off Camera Flash and trying to perfect the art of "Stop Action" photography, I completed all my theory in my lunch hours last week and was desperate to put it to the test, I had an hour with the birds today and this is the result...I'm getting there! :)

.
As you can see from the settings used, its the Flash that stops the action, Not a fast shutter speed as you would normally need in bright daylight, a couple of key points to remember when using this technique (unless you have specialised gear) is that you need low ambient light and a low flash setting (below 1/2 power on the 430 EX), this coupled with the above settings will create a nice dark background which illuminates only the bird and stops the action in its tracks, I had the camera on a tripod and the flash gun was positioned a few feet away at about 90 degrees to the camera, using three wireless remotes enabled me to trigger the flash and camera from a reasonable distance...and that is about it! :) hope some of you find the info useful or of interest, if so then please leave a comment to let me know :)

SALVATION THROUGH FAITH IN JESUS CHRIST - ALONE!
12 Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved."
❤️❤️ IT'S ALL JESUS AND NONE OF OURSELVES! ❤️❤️
16 I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for the SALVATION of everyone WHO BELIEVES: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile. 17 For in the gospel a RIGHTEOUSNESS FROM GOD IS REVEALED, a righteousness that is by FAITH FROM FIRST TO LAST, just as it is written: "THE RIGHTEOUS WILL LIVE BY FAITH." (Romans 1:16-17)
16 KNOW that a man is NOT justified by observing the law, but by FAITH IN JESUS CHRIST. So we, too, have put our faith in Christ Jesus that we may be JUSTIFIED BY FAITH in CHRIST and NOT by observing the law, BECAUSE BY OBSERVING THE LAW NO ONE WILL BE JUSTIFIED. (Galatians 2:16)
1. Now, brothers, I want to remind you of the gospel I preached to you, which you received and on which you have taken your stand. 2. BY THIS GOSPEL YOU ARE SAVED, if you hold firmly to the word I preached to you. Otherwise, you have believed in vain.
3. For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, 4. that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, 5. and that he appeared to Peter, and then to the Twelve. 6. After that, he appeared to more than five hundred of the brothers at the same time, most of whom are still living, though some have fallen asleep. 7. Then he appeared to James, then to all the apostles, 8. and last of all he appeared to me also, as to one abnormally born.
9. For I am the least of the apostles and do not even deserve to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God. 10. But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace to me was not without effect. No, I worked harder than all of them--yet not I, but the grace of God that was with me. 11. Whether, then, it was I or they, this is what we preach, and this is what you believed. (1 Corinthians 15:1-11)
7. Therefore Jesus said again, "I tell you the truth, I am the gate for the sheep. 8. All who ever came before me were thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not listen to them. 9. I am the gate; whoever enters through me WILL BE SAVED. He will come in and go out, and find pasture. 10. The thief comes only to STEAL and KILL and DESTROY; I have come that they may have LIFE, and have it to the FULL. (John 10:7-10)
1 Brothers, my heart's desire and prayer to God for the Israelites is that they may be saved. 2 For I can testify about them that they are zealous for God, but their zeal is not based on knowledge. 3 Since they did not know the righteousness that comes from God and sought to establish their own, they did not submit to God's righteousness. 4 Christ is the end of the law so that there may be righteousness for everyone who believes.
5 Moses describes in this way the righteousness that is by the law: "The man who does these things will live by them." 6 But the righteousness that is by faith says: "Do not say in your heart, 'Who will ascend into heaven?'" (that is, to bring Christ down) 7 "or 'Who will descend into the deep?'" (that is, to bring Christ up from the dead). 8 But what does it say? "The word is near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart," that is, the word of faith we are proclaiming: 9 That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved. 11 As the Scripture says, "Anyone who trusts in him will never be put to shame." 12 For there is no difference between Jew and Gentile--the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on him, 13 for, "Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved." (Romans 10:1-13)
Jesus came to bring spiritual LIFE to the spiritually dead and set the captives FREE! FREE from RELIGION, ERROR and outright LIES, so WE might serve THE LIVING GOD! In SPIRIT and in TRUTH!
So you'll KNOW, and not think you're to bad for God to love. The Christian LIFE isn't about how good WE are, because NONE of us are! It's about how GOOD JESUS IS! Because JESUS LOVES US, so much he died in our place and took the punishment for all of our sins on himself. The wages of sin is DEATH, and Jesus took the death WE so richly deserved for us and died in our place. The good news is, there's no more punishment for sin left. WE, you and I were all born forgive as a result of the crucifixion of God himself on the cross that took away the sins of the whole world. All we have to do is believe it, and put your Faith in the finished work of Jesus Christ. That my friends is REAL UNCONDITIONAL LOVE! YOU ARE LOVED. ❤️ ✝️ ❤️

We have been given an assignment / challenge by Jonathan when we arrived (at the Mon Tribe/Village) in Sangklaburi, Thailand..
The assignment was to create a story focusing on the daily activities of the Mon village people, wherein the starting point of the story should be the bridge, which connects the Mon Village to the township of Sangklaburi..
We only have to choose five photos.. And those five photos should have a travel magazine 'quality'..
It was a cool assignment, but I had a hard time creating a story line.. So I thought 'what the heck, I could document whatever things that I see along this bridge'..
I took a couple of shots of the Mon people passing and walking along the bridge.. strangely, most of my shots were only their feet and it made me excited.. i think i already have a strange story!!
This photo was taken at the Mon Village, Sangklaburi, Thailand

To anyone who's interested of his photography styles, tips, techniques and his photojournalism/journalism stories, book a workshop with him.. It's worthwhile!! Trust me! I've learned a lot from his workshop! Do visit Jonathan's Photography School Asia..
Given the time and location this was most likely taken with a Pentax *istDS with Pentax 18-55 lens.

A beck in England is a brook, I learned. Here's a little beck, shaded by trees, with bluebells, ferns and grasses along the bank. From a friend's photo, hand - painted and then given three different effects.
999 was given to Lothian Buses in 2023 as a demonstrator.
She is seen here at Seafield Terminus.
999 is a Volvo BZL Single Decker demonstator that was given to Lothian Buses in early 2023. This is a long term demonstrator.
This bus was first demonstrated on Service 23, since then it has been used on Single Decker allocated services, such as the 1 and 12. It has mainly been on the Service 1.
Lothian Buses have a good relationship with Volvo, they've purchased 50 Volvo BRLH Volvo 7900 Hybrid vehicles, they may do the same here.
I caught this bus on February 10th without its new wrap. The wrap was given to the bus because of the ALBUM conference in Edinburgh.

This beautiful Malachite Butterfly was classified and given its scientific name by Carolus Linnaeus (1758) and Jacob Hübner (1761-1826; in 1823); as far as I can gather, Hübner devised 'Siproeta' for what Linnaeus called 'Papilio stelenes'. It's curious that these men get the credit for classifying our Malachite Green Wonder.
Well before their work, intrepid Maria Sibylla Merian (1647-1717), fine artist and excellent naturalist, had traveled to Surinam specifically as she herself writes 'om naauwkeuriger onderzoekinge te doen' - to do more precise research than possible in Europe - especially on exotic plants and insects. She published her magnificent results back in Holland in 1705. One of the first detailed descriptions and paintings in her wonderful Metamorphosis insectorum surinamensium is of a Pineapple and a Malachite in its various stages of development. Engagingly Merian writes about finding a caterpilar on that Pineapple in early May 1700; by May 10 it had transformed itself into a pupa and by the 18th it emerged as a Butterfly. She lovingly illustrates each of these stages. She's far more readable than the stark one-line Latin prose of either Linnaeus or Hübner. It must be said though that Linnaeus at least refers to her ('Merian. surin. 2.t.2') in the abbreviated shorthand which is his habit even if modern authors don't.
As for the Pineapple, Merian writes that 'the taste of this fruit is as if one mixes grapes, apricots, red berries, apples and pears, which can then all be relished at the same time'.
PS I have no idea how Hübner came up with 'Siproeta'. The best guess I have is that there may be by way of C[S]iproeta some connection to the Greek Κύπρος, for the isle of Cyprus perhaps for its copper ore deposits. Copper oxide is, of course, green, which would fit Malachite well! Likely far-fetched, though.
Oh, yes... as an afterthought, our Malachite's food plant here in the Butterfly House of the Amsterdam Zoo is Lantana camara, Tickberry, that pantropical pestweed! The photo doesn't show the color of its flower but it's white and yellow.
Redhead ducks winter in large numbers along the gulf coast of Texas. Given this fact and my last two posts from that area, you might think this female redhead was photographed there. But we found her on the pond at Historic Canoa Ranch, just south of Green Valley, Arizona.
Recently given the nostalgic looks of the bygone ICF Shatabdi livery along with those striking thunderbolts and red band on the sides, AJJ WAP-4 with road number 22726, gleaming in the early morning sunshine, negotiates a small curve as it hurtles towards Makalidurga at around 75kmph pulling the Mysore bound Basava express from Bagalkot.

Given that I made Game of Thrones Lanterns to go with the new House of the Dragon show, is it a surprise that I'm now doing Lord of the Rings to go with the upcoming Rings of Power show? I've already done Marvel, Star Wars, and Harry Potter, plus Game of Thrones like I mentioned, but now it's time for one more. I don't have any more planned right now - but we'll see what happens in the future!

Another from my night at Rockefeller Center. Given the perfect conditions, it should be no surprise that the observation deck was very popular that night. People were lined up 2-3 deep at the southern edge enjoying the fantastic view.

Given that it was the Friday before Father's Day made me harken back to the days when my Dad would often marvel at the Lehigh Valley, their strong stable of ALCO and GE power and the wonderful color scheme they had. Fast forward to today, where the NS has provided us a very true rendition of what this "Fallen Flag" would look like in the present day. This one's for Dad, Happy Father's Day...I know you were with us on the chase and enjoyed the view of this Cornell Red beauty every bit as much as we did! Here 17K bounces into the hole at Sycamore, not far from Peru, IN.
Given the bad weather, I settled for the tidal pool reflection. So I scurried around searching for the perfect tidal pool. Some were too small, others too far away. I just couldn't settle on anything. Then my 7 year old son called me over to him to show me some baby fish he found, and sure enough he had found it all along :)

(091/365) I was given some polished stones as a child & always adored them. Over the 14 years we've lived in Ireland I've tried to bring a "lucky" stone back from any beach I visited, especially when we were house-hunting (see photo in the first comment below). This collection grew on our mantelpiece & when we did move house 2 years ago I found the original polished stones in a drawer. I brought them all with me & they now reside on the windowsill in our porch. We walk Bella on a local beach most weeks so I resist bringing a stone back every single time but it's a hard habit to break. Special ones sneak in my pocket still.
Recently I've decided that I don't actually like some of them any more but in my OCD mind throwing them out could bring bad luck. I know this is completely irrational & the whereabouts of a small pebble has no bearing on what occurs in the world so I'm making a start by moving the ones I really want to keep into this blue dish. The others are in small piles to one side & in time I'll find a new place for them, in the garden perhaps? Happy Textural Tuesday!
I rarely get political but given the state of affairs over in Europe (again) I thought I'd just show some support for Ukraine. Europe already started two world wars. I do not want them to start another one.
The United States has done a lot of stupid, stupid, stupid things over the last 200 years or so, but what Russia is doing in March of 2022 is one of the dumbest things I've seen in my lifetime. What does Putin and his goons expect to gain from this?
I grew up as a kid in the 1970s and was taught to be afraid of the Soviet Union and communism, and I feared the government, not the people.
I have lived through the US invading other countries for no logical reason, I've seen the US overthrow democratically elected presidents, elect an orange buffoon, and many, many, many other things I wish hadn't happened.
The US isn't perfect but at least I feel relatively safe here. Even so close to Baltimore. I can't imagine what the average Ukrainian citizen is living through right now.
This isn't my photo (I dug it up on google) but I will share it and state loud and clear FUCK PUTIN AND FUCK THE RUSSIAN MILITARY.
if you support Russia, please kindly unfollow me and rethink your life.
Given a second day of fog over the Golden Gate Bridge this weekend, I decided to try something different. Fortunately, it worked out.

The really wonderful version of this subject is over in Cerstin's stream.
Taken from, what was, Kiveton Colliery pit tip and now Kiveton Community Woodland, a nature reserve. I don't know why, but it makes me feel proud.
Excerpt from the plaque:
Given that the Chan Ancestral Hall on the central axis has three halls, the cluster of buildings came to be known as “Sam Tung Uk”, which literally means “a building with three ridge purlins”, with tung being the ridge of a hall. The Middle Hall was used for the gatherings of the Chan clan. A pair of screen doors helps avoid direct sight from the ancestral altar in the rear of the hall. Suspended above the screen doors is a plaque inscribed with the Chinese characters for “Greatly Respected Patriarch” (replica), which was bestowed by the Qing court on Chan Kin-sheung, to commend him for his good moral virtue and contributions to the area.
Given how they are thriving much further north now, it's not surprising rose-ringed parakeets (Psittacula krameri) populate most Andalucian parks as well.
The species is listed as least concern by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) because its population appears to be increasing in many parts of the world, but its popularity as a pet and unpopularity with farmers have reduced its numbers in some parts of its native range (Asia and Africa).
Given all the photographs I've taken of the Maryland Midland over the years I've likely photographed these hoppers in the past. I assume they were loaded at the Lehigh facility in Union Bridge, MD. Here's a photo of that facility from a few years ago: www.flickr.com/photos/jimkleeman/11757441325/in/album-721...
given that this was taken with my 100-400 lens I didn't notice his "maleness" until I loaded it on the PC and did a bit of a crop.

The photographer who took it did some serious research, which you can read under his/her wonderful macro shot.
However to make things simpler, here is what he/she says about the drop hanging under the Blow Fly mouth :
Turns out, researchers only discovered relatively recently why certain flies and other insects like to have a droplet of saliva (because that's what it actually is) hanging out their mouths, and it's for a really interesting and quite practical reason: they use that "spit bubble" to cool themselves.
Interesting, isn't it ? :)
A big thank you to Lacerta Bilineata for satisfying my endless curiosity :))
Given Empire was our main target I timed the aerial assault so CN would be loading. Well, on our first pass the second half of the empty train was there but no power. As we moved on to Eagle Mills I saw the light power going under a haul road just north of Empire so it was easy pickings on our return attempt. Here the train (U741) loads at Empire's Super Pocket (the original unused loading pockets are off to the right)
Given I'm more of a run and gun photographer (don't have the patience) - I did give myself a few moments to properly plan this composition - looking at foreground, midground, background - with an implied movement of objects from the rocks, to the building, to the lighthouse in the background.
I was given this plaque by my son and his family for Christmas. Not being great on DIY it's taken me a couple of weeks to get it fixed up. Actually my three grand daughters are a source of constant delight to me :-)
You've given me a reason
For smiling once again,
You've filled my life with peaceful dreams
and you've become my closest friend.
You've shared your heartfelt secrets
And your trust you've given me,
You showed me how to feel again
To laugh, and love, and see.
If life should end tomorrow
And from this world I should part,
I shall be forever young
For you have touched my heart ~♥~
Wishing you all a
Happy Valentine's Day
Hugs & Kisses ~♥~

Our good friend Maria Eugenia has given us a very special gift, made by her and signed.
We have only included the guacamole and the tortilla chips, to give some context.

I have given, I have given and got none
Still, I'm driven by something I can't explain
It's not a cross, it is a choice
I cannot help but hear his voice
I only wish that I could listen without shame
Let it rain
Let it rain on me
Let it rain, oh, let it rain
Let it rain on me
I have been a witness to the perfect crime
I wipe the grin off of my face to hide the blame
It isn't worth the tears you cry
To have a perfect alibi
Now I'm beaten at the hands of my own game
I had given my camera away for a week for much needed servicing. So I am posting some of the most memorable shots from earlier this year for 1 week's pics.
This one is from June 2015, from my trip to Switzerland. On my second day of stay in Switzerland. Lovely breakfast table from my hotel stay.
The summer rains have given Joshua Tree National Park something it seldom has: a green forest floor. The entire park hasn't sprouted as a result of flash floods, but we're seeing areas where the Joshua Tree forest floor is green, (like this.) In one spot, the ground was green on one side of the road and dry sand on the other. I've learned the rain and lightning can be very localized.
It was 105-107 degrees F (40.5-41.7 Celsius) last time I visited. I tried a dirt road which warned it was not maintained or patrolled and that park visitors had died from heat-related illness. It started out pretty ordinary. After about 5 miles, the sand was so deep that I had to push hard on the throttle to keep moving forward. I recalled a sign that said there were sheer drop offs along one side of the road ahead. At about the six mile mark, I found some ground hard enough to support a six-point turn. I went back out the way I had entered.
The NPS signs seem to be excessively cautious in other parks. The ones here were accurate for my equipment and driving skill. I think a air conditioned Unimog with decent tires would've been a good choice. Better yet, three vehicles with lots of recovery equipment.
When it's this hot, the animals are often invisible.
The Park has been hammered by flash floods that closed some of the main roads. Creek-scale water flows crossed the pavement and washed debris into the roadway.
I have learned that people are like the running creek: if you put an obstacle in its way, it will find a way around it.
