Puka shell necklace. The Hawaiian word "puka" means "hole." Puka shells originally contained mollusks who died or were eaten. As the empty shell was knocked about in the ocean, a hole would wear in the weak center of the shell. Hawaiians typically give puka necklaces to wish the recipient goodwill or good luck. So you'll KNOW, and not think you're to bad for God to love. The Christian LIFE isn't about how good WE are, because NONE of us are! It's about how GOOD JESUS IS! Because JESUS LOVES US, so much he died in our place and took the punishment for all of our sins on himself. The wages of sin is DEATH, and Jesus took the death WE so richly deserved for us and died in our place. The good news is, there's no more punishment for sin left. WE, you and I were all born forgive as a result of the crucifixion of God himself on the cross that took away the sins of the whole world. All we have to do is believe it, and put your Faith in the finished work of Jesus Christ. That my friends is REAL UNCONDITIONAL LOVE! YOU ARE LOVED. ❤️ ✝️ ❤️

Driving around Mondsee lake looking for a good sunset spot turned out to be more difficult than I had imagined given private docks and hills blocking the sunset. Finally got to a pier (with 3 people on it who got into a long conversation and did not leave the prime spot ;-( ). I managed to get this composition and the final rays of the sunset over Mondsee lake

Taking the cable car up from Beatenberg, Switzerland, gives some amazing views that are really impossible to capture. We were given a wonderful mix of clouds and landscape, with some scattered thunder and lightening to punctuate the scene.

The Roskilde Jars.
Roskilde's three giant jars by the artist Peter Brandes are 5 metres high and weigh about 24 tons altogether.
They were given to Roskilde by the company Stryhn's Leverpostej A/S to commemorate Roskilde's 1000-years anniversary in 1998.
According to the artist they symbolise life and death, as jars are used for storage of food and as urns.
The name of all employees of the company and of those taking part in the production are inscribed on the jars. The first jar - seen from the station - has been adorned with a poem by Henrik Nordbrandt about Roskilde and Queen Margrethe I.
The work is created by Peter Brandes

A change from trains ....... the eerie remains of Alexandra Dock, Hull taken at low tide, given a bit of artsy processing.

This shot isn't anything special given that its just a light unit sitting in the shade. But the location is just so cool that I used my wide angle to just capture the whole scene. This lone YN2 AC4400CW is the local power for Selkirk based B765, the Hudson Grain train here on the old Boston and Albany Hudson and Chatham branch now known as CSXT's Claverack Industrial Track.
In addition to the famous two blocks of street running the train also amazingly cuts right through the middle of the town square park. Sharp eyes will note the Hannukah Menorah lit up for the season, and of course just out of frame at left is a Christmas tree too. The crew had paused for a while by the old depot (and soon to be brewery) then pulled across the crossing and stopped right here in the center of town for another break. The conductor kept the locomotive company while the engineer walked to grab a coffee then chatted it up with a local lady and her dog and even loaded a baby up on the engine for some photos. It was all quite amusing and charming in a strange old fashioned railroading kind of way....I suppose it is that whole juxtaposition of time and place contrasting with the norm of modern railroading that makes this job so appealing to watch. I don't know...forgive my rambled musings...this place is just simply too cool to resist, and it continuely calls me back!

Buff Breasted Sandpiper - Calidris subruficollis
A delicate dove-headed shorebird, the Buff-breasted Sandpiper is found primarily in migration in areas of short grass. It migrates primarily through the middle of the American continent from its arctic breeding grounds to southern South America.
The Buff-breasted Sandpiper is unique among North American shorebirds in having a lek mating system. Males defend relatively small territories that provide no resources for females and are simply display sites to which females can be attracted. Females select a mate and then leave to nest and raise their chicks elsewhere.
It migrates mainly through central North America, and is uncommon on the coasts. It occurs as a regular wanderer to western Europe, and is not classed as rare in Great Britain or Ireland, where small flocks have occurred. Only the pectoral sandpiper is a more common American shorebird visitor to Europe.
This species nests as far north as Canada including Alaska on the ground, laying four eggs. The male has a display which includes raising the wings to display the white undersides, which is also given on migration, sometimes when no other buff-breasted sandpipers are present. Outside the breeding season, this bird is normally found on short-grass habitats such as airfields or golf-courses, rather than near water.
This tree is located at the "Hochschachten", which is like all other "Schachten" a meadow located in the Bavarian Forest. It was used in summer similar to an "Alm" of the alps.
These forest pastures were given up in 1950s. The Schachten are witnesses of a bygone cultural era and as such are to be maintained in the future as areas without trees.
Gängeviertel is the name given to the narrow and densly popuated streets in the inner city areas of Hamburg back in the 18th and 19th century. Today only a few houses remain scattered along the inner city areas. The today Gängeviertel is a small area in Hamburg Neustadt, which was dispute to gentrification and protest and resulted in the squatting and later legalised project of the "Gängeviertel Cooperative".

This is the new 54,000 square metres large concert, congress and hotel complex in Malmö. The large empty area at bottom centre is the site of the former aluminium works for whose workers Kinlochleven was built early in the 20th Century. Given it is the last stop before Fort William on the West Highland Way long distance walk, and its extremely scenic location, the village has been able to reinvent itself as a tourism hub since the plant closed in 2000 but has inevitably lost a substantial proportion of its resident community.

Given the low train volume on the "Meridian Speedway" getting a train going the right direction during the couple hour time window this shot is well lit is far from a certainty. While I was disappointed to see NS power rather than "home road" CPKC power, I'm not going to complain. The sun even popped out on a pretty rough weather day so I was happy enough with what I got. Laura's gone off to her native Georgia, for a bit of vacation and family time.
So it's a good thing I went and shot her pretty much every week for the past month.
This was taken right after shooting with Carré (see Monday's post), where I noticed there was still some awesome light coming into the house from the sun, just as it was about to drop below the mountains.
I hadn't intended to take anymore shots, but when I saw the light....well, sheeit, I hear the music, I'm gonna dance.
I do believe I've fallen in love with light.

This is the tale of the dragonfly and the dog's tail. It is a mystery. Was it tired of flying against strong headwinds and it was looking for a good tailwind? Was it dog tired? Was it just dragging from all the flying? Or maybe it was just one friend giving another friend a ride.There is simply no telling the actual reason. Neither the dragonfly or the dog were available for comment.

Anglin's Flishing Pier is the longest pier in South Florida. It is open 24/7 for fishing & featuring a cafe & occasional live music.
The Pier first opened on November 24 1963. It has been, and still is today, an important part of the City, Lauderdale by the Sea offering tourists and fishermen a Great Time. In 2006 the pier suffered damage from Hurricane Wilma and at that time the pier was only open halfway and lost what had been done from the last storm that had damaged it the year before that.
The Pier, as of the Fall of 2006 is open and operating 24 hours a day.
The new owners our happy to keep this Fishing pier going and will be bringing in new ideas and innovative concepts to better offer a unique and pleasurable experience for both the Fisherman and Sightseer. They have ideas for creating ocean viewing windows through the decking of the pier while you stroll. This would give the patrons the chance to look down and through the pier to see the many different sub-tropical and tropical fish that live around the pier in their habitat and also being witness to some unbelievable catches of which so many are in Awe.

I remember as a child thinking how difficult it was to pull yourself out of a swimming pool without using the steps. Well it must take enormous strength for a Polar Bear with all that rear-end bulk soaked in weighty water. But they spend a lot of time in water, and that's why they were given the scientific name Ursus maritimus. This was taken north of Svalbard where the frozen sea starts to break up, known as pack ice.

So you'll KNOW, and not think you're to bad for God to love. The Christian LIFE isn't about how good WE are, because NONE of us are! It's about how GOOD JESUS IS! Because JESUS LOVES US, so much he died in our place and took the punishment for all of our sins on himself. The wages of sin is DEATH, and Jesus took the death WE so richly deserved for us and died in our place. The good news is, there's no more punishment for sin left. WE, you and I were all born forgive as a result of the crucifixion of God himself on the cross that took away the sins of the whole world. All we have to do is believe it, and put your Faith in the finished work of Jesus Christ. That my friends is REAL UNCONDITIONAL LOVE! YOU ARE LOVED. ❤️ ✝️ ❤️

Landscape/seascape photography from Gailes Beach, Scotland.
On a blustery day with the tide rolling out and leaving behind some sandbanks littered with shells and slate, I just loved the shape and form of the water as it flowed both on and off of the beach here.
Processed in black and white but given a slight split tone treatment which just gave the shot the atmosphere that it called for. Enjoy!
Given that UP tossed me a couple 1 by 1 intermodals at least they put a nice clean leader on this one! (and the bright K Line boxes don't hurt either). 3/26/16
Another print given to me recently sees Preston Station platform 5 and Stanier Black Five 44848 arriving on 1Z09 special.This must date from between 1963 and 1968 because the loco is showing shed plate 10F which was Rose Grove between these dates. Before it was 24B and 10F was Lower Ince! A bit tarted up on the smokebox. This loco lasted until the last year of steam operation in 1968.

I was given a 7 hour time slot to paint this peice, The gate to the lot would lock up at 5 and I wasn't allow to stay and paint past business hours. Anyway, I showed up an hour late and painted my ass of for 6 hours. It was a real workout because of the scale, and my forearm felt like it was a wet noodle after. Although the time constraint helped with the 'deconstructive painting style, random 3d, hollow effects and negative spaces played a big role.

Osprey
The Osprey (Pandion haliaetus), sometimes known as the Sea Hawk, Fish Eagle or Fish Hawk, is a diurnal, fish-eating bird of prey. It is a large Raptor, reaching more than 24 inches (60 cm) in length and a 71 inches (180 cm) wingspan. It is brown on the upper parts and predominantly greyish on the head and under parts, with a black eye patch and wings. In 1994, the osprey was declared the provincial bird of Nova Scotia, Canada.

Given to Cornwall Council on behalf of the people of Cornwall in 1985 to celebrate the birth of Prince William, Kitt Hill has always been an important site and has been shaped by over 5,000 years of human activity. From its use by early people for agriculture and religious purposes to the more recent exploitation of its stones and minerals. Many mining relics, including mine shafts, still remain. The Hill is also home to a wide range of flora and fauna, much of which depends on its heathland habitats.

I was given this orchid for Christmas 2022. It came from a flower shop where it was apparent they expected us to throw it out once the flowers died. I thought I'd have a go at keeping it alive so gave it new orchid bark and as instructed by an orchid website, watered with 2 icecubes at a time although I don't think I always did so often enough. I will try to do better this year and perhaps will get more flowers.

Given the position of this dead tree I though a good title might be 'Did it jump or was it pushed?' The image was taken in an area named the Trough of Bowland close to the village of Abbeystead. Although photographers yearn for bright sunshine and blue skies, sometimes conditions like we found that day make for interesting images.

This is a Red Deer, one of only two native species in Britain, the other being Roe. This was photographed in Bushy Park, where they were introduced after WWII. When the park was established in Tudor times it was non-native Fallow Deer that were present and hunted. The deer populations in Bushy Park are "actively managed" in the absence of any natural predators. They are incredibly confiding given that they are shot. I don't recall seeing a Red Deer sitting down and relaxed in Scotland, where they still behave like wild animals. The title (Stag Couchant) is a term from heraldry that describes a stag sitting, but awake. There are terms in heraldry to describe almost any position an animal can adopt, all from French (rampant, passant, courant, dormant, salient, sejant). In heraldry the Stag Couchant symbolises peace and watchfulness. I can't imagine they observed many Stags Couchant during the Tudor heydays of hunting.
This stag appeared to be the biggest in the herd, with the most impressive rack of antlers. Unusually for a Red Deer, part of the antlers were palmate, rather like a Fallow Deer, which were also present in the Park.
