I rarely get political but given the state of affairs over in Europe (again) I thought I'd just show some support for Ukraine. Europe already started two world wars. I do not want them to start another one.
The United States has done a lot of stupid, stupid, stupid things over the last 200 years or so, but what Russia is doing in March of 2022 is one of the dumbest things I've seen in my lifetime. What does Putin and his goons expect to gain from this?
I grew up as a kid in the 1970s and was taught to be afraid of the Soviet Union and communism, and I feared the government, not the people.
I have lived through the US invading other countries for no logical reason, I've seen the US overthrow democratically elected presidents, elect an orange buffoon, and many, many, many other things I wish hadn't happened.
The US isn't perfect but at least I feel relatively safe here. Even so close to Baltimore. I can't imagine what the average Ukrainian citizen is living through right now.
This isn't my photo (I dug it up on google) but I will share it and state loud and clear FUCK PUTIN AND FUCK THE RUSSIAN MILITARY.

Taken from, what was, Kiveton Colliery pit tip and now Kiveton Community Woodland, a nature reserve. I don't know why, but it makes me feel proud.
Given all the photographs I've taken of the Maryland Midland over the years I've likely photographed these hoppers in the past. I assume they were loaded at the Lehigh facility in Union Bridge, MD. given that this was taken with my 100-400 lens I didn't notice his "maleness" until I loaded it on the PC and did a bit of a crop.
Given Empire was our main target I timed the aerial assault so CN would be loading. Well, on our first pass the second half of the empty train was there but no power. As we moved on to Eagle Mills I saw the light power going under a haul road just north of Empire so it was easy pickings on our return attempt. Here the train (U741) loads at Empire's Super Pocket (the original unused loading pockets are off to the right)
The great spirits had given the princess a magical land sprinkled with many playthings. She loved the colors and movement of the flying and swimming creatures, the strange shapes and textures of those who grew from the ground. She was enchanted with the sparkle of the sun-orb and the romance of the moon and star dance.
Sometimes a traveler would wander through and she would delight in their wonder of it all. There was much warmth and laughter in the land as she showed them around. Yet, as time went by, the visitors eyes became dim and they forgot to respect the beauty and charm of the great spirits offerings. She ached as they would be blown back to the plainer lands where they had strayed from. She liked sharing her joys with visitors and was always so sad to see them go.
The princess harbored a secret wish to find the worthy traveler she had heard of who never forgot, whose pockets were filled with surprises and haunting sounds. She imagined a great many adventures could be had with this stranger. She didn't know what land they would hail from, what their appearance could be. It was a lovely dream she took out and looked at from time to time.

From inside any given town in the Portland are, amidst the urban canyons and industrial sprawls, it's easy to forget what a lush forest paradise this city is tucked into. Near where I live there used to be a point where almost the entire Portland Metro area was visible. Now it's mostly obscured by trees that are growing in the tree farm around it, but years-old photos I have still show the northern edge of the Willamette Valley in all its splendor.

This particular example - locomotive 43 544 - has undergone treatment at its home depot Dupnitsa and is here seen at the station of Iliyantsi together with 43 553 on a fuel train to Serbia.
As of Feb 2020, the life of Dhawajhandi female (T27), one of Kanha Tiger Reserve's most frequently sighted tigress, remains one of the most engrossing and poignant tales of our times.
In 2019, T27 had given birth to 4 cubs, fathered by one of the the dominant and most popular male tigers of Kanha - Chota Munna (T29). Yet, inexplicably, at the end of the monsoon of 2019 and just after the park had opened, T29 just vanished, never to be seen after Oct 29. A tiger, never afraid of tourists or safari vehicles, just gone, leaving behind only a swirl of concern and conspiracy theories.
Tougher, then, gets the life of a tigress such as T27, having to raise her cubs in the heart of her lost mate’s territory, and having to do it all over again, as the story of her current litter plays out almost the same as her current one. It had been her shrewd mind and strong heart that had helped her get through the storm the last time around - as she mated (falsely) with other marauding males and pushed out her own daughter (DJ4) prematurely, so that one may at least live, even as the three two male cubs were lost.

The enormous Ever Given container ship, wedged in Egypt’s Suez Canal, is visible in new images captured by the Copernicus Sentinel-1 mission.
The giant container ship ran aground in the canal on 23 March on its journey from China to the Netherlands. The image on the left, captured on 21 March, shows routine maritime traffic in the canal with vessels visible every 2 to 3 km. The image on the right, captured on 25 March, shows the 400 m-ship blocking the canal.
The canal connects Port Said on the Mediterranean Sea to the Indian Ocean via the Egyptian city of Suez on the Red Sea. The blockage has delayed hundreds of tankers and vessels in reaching their destination, and more maritime traffic is still heading to the crucial waterway. Ships can be seen accumulating in the Gulf of Suez.
Tug boats are working hard to dislodge the 200 000 tonne ship, however Egyptian authorities say it is unclear when the route will reopen.
The two identical Copernicus Sentinel-1 satellites carry radar instruments to provide an all-weather, day-and-night supply of imagery of Earth’s surface, making it ideal to monitor ship traffic.
The sea surface reflects the radar signal away from the satellite, and makes water appear dark in the image. This contrasts with metal objects, in this case the ships in the bay, which appear as bright dots in the dark waters.

So you'll KNOW, and not think you're to bad for God to love. The Christian LIFE isn't about how good WE are, because NONE of us are! It's about how GOOD JESUS IS! Because JESUS LOVES US, so much he died in our place and took the punishment for all of our sins on himself. The wages of sin is DEATH, and Jesus took the death WE so richly deserved for us and died in our place. The good news is, there's no more punishment for sin left. WE, you and I were all born forgive as a result of the crucifixion of God himself on the cross that took away the sins of the whole world. All we have to do is believe it, and put your Faith in the finished work of Jesus Christ. That my friends is REAL UNCONDITIONAL LOVE! YOU ARE LOVED. ❤️ ✝️ ❤️

I thought that this was interesting. Very common in the 70's & 80's to have your car moved by the BTP if it was fouling the tramway. They had a big bunch of keys to enter most cars and push them out of the way, as can be seen here with this Cortina. You would have thought that the driver of this vehicle would have known better, given the 'EL' indicates a local registration.

Jude C sent me an advert of this given it was seemingly local, and a bit of digging later and I deduced where it was!
It is genuinely amazing. Apparently, it's only done 19,000 miles from new. It was last on the road in 2005 according to the tax disc, and despite displaying an owner change in 2021, before that at least it wouldn't surprise me if it's had the same owner from new.
In the wake of the ULEZ where everything seems to be vanishing locally (all the other 5 cars I intended to spot today were gone, a couple scrapped, a few sold on), it's a real motivation booster when some cars seem to just appear out of the blue.

I've been trying to get lightning shots with the Nikon D300 with some success however i still have not been able to replicate what i was able to shoot with the old Nikon Coolpix 8700. Rather odd given i have so much control and features to assist with the D300. This is from earlier this summer prior to the "upgrade" to the D300 and is a shot of Jersey City, New Jersey looking north with New York City in the distant right.

In the UK, important historical buildings get 'listed' and Given 'a 'Grade'. The idea is to preserve old buildings. The grade determines what can be done to the building. The higher the grade the less you can do. But, who decides what is worth keeping? Or, more importantly, how do they decide what is worth keeping? This cottage has a history (of which I know nothing). It was a place where someone lived out their life or lives. But, it has been left to fall apart. Why? because they were not rich, famous, notorious?

Burning Heads 30 Years Tour @CCM John Lennon, Limoges, France 25/10/2017
This great gig was given for the 10th birthday of Undersounds, the independent record store of my city.
You can also see the High Stile ridge peeking over the Newlands fells.
This is a tiny fragment of Clough Head's panorama; taken with a telephoto at an unforgiving ISO, I'm afraid.
It was only upon looking at my results, once home, did I realise that the tiny settlement in Newlands, seen on the far right & being picked out by sunlight, is Keskadale farm. Having stayed there for a week, a couple of years back, I was more than a little thrilled at the way it was highlighted in unique afternooon light (one thing about cloud/sun interplay in photography is that it creates a never-to-be-repeated arrangment at any given moment; not quite the case on a day of clear, cloudless skies).
La Sacristía se construyó a finales del siglo XVI por Vergara el Mozo. En su bóveda, un grandioso fresco de Lucas Jordán, que representa la Descensión de la Virgen en la imposición de la casulla a San Ildefonso, y en la cual podemos contemplar el autorretrato del autor en la última ventana del lado izquierdo. Al fondo, destaca el cuadro llamado "el Expolio" del Greco que pintó en ese mismo lugar en 1587 por encargo del Cabildo, está enmarcado en un retablo de mármol y bronce realizado en 1798, que sustituyó al realizado por el mismo Greco y del que se conserva solamente un grupo escultórico con la Imposición de la casulla. Toda la sala es una auténtica pinacoteca con cuadros de los más importantes pintores, como son: El Greco, Caravaggio, Tiziano, Van Dick, Orrente, Tristán, Goya, Morales, José Ramos. En uno de los laterales, se halla el sepulcro de alabastro romano del Cardenal D. Luis de Borbón, obra de Salvatierra en 1824. Junto a la Sacristía se encuentra la llamada sacristía arzobispal con obras de pintores como Rivera, Bassano o Bellini entre otros, y más adelante, dos salas completan estas dependencias con vestiduras litúrgicas realizadas en Toledo entre los siglos XV y XVII. La Catedral Primada de Toledo, consagrada a la Virgen María en su Asunción a los cielos, comenzó a construirse en el año 1227 sobre los cimientos de la Catedral visigoda del S. VI que había sido utilizada como mezquita. La construcción es de estilo gótico con una clara influencia francesa. Mide 120 m de largo por 60 m de ancho. Está compuesta por cinco naves, sostenida por 88 columnas y 72 bóvedas. Las naves laterales se prolongan por detrás de la Capilla Mayor rodeando el presbiterio y creando una girola con un doble pasillo semicircular. Su primer arquitecto fue el maestro Martín, de origen francés, a quien se deben las trazas de la planta y los comienzos de la obra en la cabecera del templo. En el siglo XIV se cerraron las naves laterales, y se construyó el claustro bajo con sus dependencias. En 1493 se cerró la última bóveda, dándose por concluida esta magna construcción. En el siglo XVI se construyó el retablo, la parte alta del coro y las rejas, se cerraron todas las vidrieras y se realizaron diversas modificaciones de planta.
