Little art to this one, but a pleasing enough impact given the combination of train, sun and the signal gantry.
GBRf 'Shed' 66789 approaches Basingstoke on the Up Slow with the 10.31am Southampton Western Docks - Ditton (Merseyside) containers (4M59). At the end of the platform behind me, the train will turn sharp left and head towards Reading, Oxford and north through the West Midlands.
The container working on the left of the frame is 4O27, the tail-end of which is just passing through the station (see shot a couple of uploads ago).
South Western Trains class 450, unit 450059 (with a sister set behind), waits on its next turn - probably a local up to London Waterloo.

Because JESUS LOVES US, so much he died in our place and took the punishment for all of our sins on himself. The wages of sin is DEATH, and Jesus took the death WE so richly deserved for us and died in our place. The good news is, there's no more punishment for sin left. WE, you and I were all born forgive as a result of the crucifixion of God himself on the cross that took away the sins of the whole world. All we have to do is believe it, and put your Faith in the finished work of Jesus Christ. That my friends is REAL UNCONDITIONAL LOVE! YOU ARE LOVED. ❤️ ✝️ ❤️

Given the low train volume on the "Meridian Speedway" getting a train going the right direction during the couple hour time window this shot is well lit is far from a certainty. While I was disappointed to see NS power rather than "home road" CPKC power, I'm not going to complain. The sun even popped out on a pretty rough weather day so I was happy enough with what I got. I'm pretty sure the train was CPKC I168 (becomes NS 26A). Vicksburg, MS 4/2/2024
Wake up call given out by this Knot (Calidris canutus) as I edged closer...this meant that half the flock of birds I was watching scooted over to the next rock pool island. There is always one keeping a beady eye on you! :))

The knot is a dumpy, short-legged, stocky wading bird. In winter, It is grey above and white below; in summer the chest, belly and face are brick-red. In flight, it shows a pale rump and a faint wing-stripe. It forms huge flocks in winter which wheel and turn in flight, flashing their pale underwings as they twist and turn. Many knots use UK estuaries as feeding grounds, both on migration and in winter, and therefore the population is vulnerable to any changes such as barrages, sea-level rises and human disturbance. Large numbers of birds visit the UK in winter from their Arctic breeding grounds.

Got given a day off work yesterday and thought the rainforest might be a great place to hangout, get a bit of exercise, chill out and take a few photos. A couple of tourists tried to spoil the peace by flying their drone, unfortunately the drone crashed into the trees above me then into the river, karma. I had a little chuckle on the inside : )

The ocean moves in to cover what it left empty hours ago as a storm makes its final stand. A lone cloud hovers above the ocean poised and balanced for what will next arise.
Princes Street is one of the major thoroughfares in central Edinburgh, Scotland, and its main shopping street. It is the southernmost street of Edinburgh's New Town, stretching around 1 mile (1.6 km) from Lothian Road in the west to Leith Street in the east. The street is mostly closed to private cars, with public transport given priority. The street has virtually no buildings on the south side, allowing panoramic views of the Old Town, Edinburgh Castle, and the valley between.
Only the east end of the street is open to all traffic. The bulk of the street is limited to trams, buses and taxis.

Given favorable atmospheric conditions, sunrise at Paradise can be stunning and double that when it’s peak fall colors as it was the first weekend in October. An explosion of autumnal color carpeted the Paradise landscape in fiery reds, yellows and oranges – it was sensory elation but manic when trying to zero in on a composition so I settled on this view. While the morning sun bathed the face of Mount Rainier in soul-tingling light , the autumnally painted ridge in this image would remain in shadow until the sun rose higher – but by then the special light on the mountain would be long gone. There’s a waterfall coming through that gulch down into Edith Creek basin – hidden in this image. Earlier I had scouted the Golden Gate trail to see whether I could include that waterfall but I couldn’t get Mount Rainier placed compellingly in the background. Since that didn’t work out I planted myself along Skyline trail to get this image. I originally had the entire mountain in frame but the foreground meadow had too many random clumps of vegetation and trees, so I opted to crop for a tighter shot later. There had been some fresh snowfall during the past week so the mountain looked less bare.

I was given this orchid for Christmas 2022. It came from a flower shop where it was apparent they expected us to throw it out once the flowers died. I thought I'd have a go at keeping it alive so gave it new orchid bark and as instructed by an orchid website, watered with 2 icecubes at a time although I don't think I always did so often enough. I will try to do better this year and perhaps will get more flowers.

Because JESUS LOVES US, so much he died in our place and took the punishment for all of our sins on himself. The wages of sin is DEATH, and Jesus took the death WE so richly deserved for us and died in our place. The good news is, there's no more punishment for sin left. WE, you and I were all born forgive as a result of the crucifixion of God himself on the cross that took away the sins of the whole world. All we have to do is believe it, and put your Faith in the finished work of Jesus Christ. That my friends is REAL UNCONDITIONAL LOVE! YOU ARE LOVED. ❤️ ✝️ ❤️

Instanbul Kebab house in Waterford city given a Prisma makeover HSS!
Uploaded for 117 Pictures in 2017 #26 Selective colour. I'm aware the date taken isn't showing for this image but I did definitely take it in January 2017, my sister came over from England to visit for my 50th birthday on 16th January & we went wandering around Waterford city. I was hoping the Flickr photo editor which replaced Aviary would keep the selective colour feature but sadly it didn't. I don't have software that does selective colour nor is it available on my camera. If I can work out another way to do a selective colour image which shows the actual date I will & replace this one before the end of the year.
The area previously served as a wood production plantation for matchstick making. Now flooded again for their original inhabitants, the waterfowl. (Het Vinne, Zoutleeuw, Belgium)

I was given them by a company who wanted photographs, and they now keep flowering and re-flowering!
Orchids are truly flowers of superlatives.
No plant family has as many different flowers as the orchid family.
Orchids are among the most highly prized of ornamental plants.
In Mexico the flowers are used symbolically by the natives; each one conveys a sentiment associated with different ceremonies or religious figures.
From the time that orchids were first imported from the Bahamas to Britain (in the early 18th cent.) these flowers have been cultivated for their commercial value and have been successfully hybridised and variegated.
Hawaii has become a major centre for commercial orchid culture.
A species of the Vanilla genus of tropical America is important economically as the source of natural vanilla flavouring.

Findhorn Valley, Highlands | Scotland
Given that one of the primary objectives of going to the Cairngorms at this time of year was to hopefully see and photograph mountain hares in the snow, I shall indulge myself by posting a few shots of them over the next couple of days. We were fortunate as, the night before our session at this location, there had been a reasonable fall of snow. Not only did this give us the conditions we wanted, but it probably put a few people off making the ten mile drive down an uncleared and ungritted winding track road such that, apart from a couple of other photographers, we had the whole mountain side at our disposal. We were also blessed with lovely sunny conditions.
But, that’s only half the story, as once you’re there you have to first spot a hare, which is actually far more difficult that you imagine, and then hope you can approach it. I take no credit at all for this as I may well have come away without any close-up photos if it hadn’t been for our excellent local wildlife photographic guide Mark Hamblin - thank you Mark. He not only knew where to go, but he seemed to actually know some of the hares individually.
Anyway, after a fairly long trudge from the car and then onto the lower slopes we spotted our first two hares at distance sitting in their ‘forms’. What a great start, this was going to be easier than I thought. It wasn’t, as both of those hares decided that they didn’t want to be photographed and made off up the mountain at quite an incredible pace when we were probably still 100m or so away from them. I did get one long shot though of one sitting on the wide open whiteness and, although it doesn’t capture any mountain peaks in the backdrop, it does give me a ‘little is more shot’. I read a lot about photographing mountain hares before we went and, quite rightly, people who photograph them regularly say that you should vary your shots with some wide-angle views. For this first visit I just wanted some shots and, quite frankly, the closer the better. If I’d appreciated how close we were going to be able to get, then I certainly would have taken a wider lens. I didn’t, so ended up taking all my photographs with the 500mm, which meant that when we did locate a couple of hares that were happy to sit tight, I could keep at a sensible and respectful close distance and take frame filling photos of the type I’d visualised.
Neither Tris nor I really thought that we would be able to get photos of them this close up in the snow so, once again, thank you Mark.

Had to go into town this morning to buy some more milk and a loaf of bread. If I'd had half a chance, I'd have stayed at home. Still very humid and muggy here. Although we do now have a slight breeze - heavenly.

Bristol Cathedral, formally the Cathedral Church of the Holy and Undivided Trinity, is an Anglican cathedral. It is the cathedral of the Diocese of Bristol. The cathedral is a grade I listed building.
The history of the cathedral begins in 1140, when the Abbey of St Augustine was founded. The abbey church was built in Romanesque style. In 1220 a chapel was built on the north side. This building still exists. Between 1298 and 1332 there was a major rebuilding of the east side of the church, in Gothic style. Another rebuilding followed in the mid-15th century. In 1542 the church was given the status of cathedral. Between 1868 and 1877 the cathedral was extended, this time in neo-Gothic style.

Given that there must be hundreds of sunset/sunrise photos uploaded to Flickr every hour of every day, pink and blue should be easy to find. I had to wait a week for the skies to be clear enough to see some color in the sunset. Today was looking good around 3:00 PM. By 6:00 I had one wisp of cloud over the stone quarry. So there it is, my contribution to pink and blue.
Given the weaather forecast I'd gone to the beach with the intent of taking some moody b&w images. But I was blessed with some gorgeous light.
I think the sun had already set when I took this pic.
I was given a 7 hour time slot to paint this peice, The gate to the lot would lock up at 5 and I wasn't allow to stay and paint past business hours. Anyway, I showed up an hour late and painted my ass of for 6 hours. It was a real workout because of the scale, and my forearm felt like it was a wet noodle after. Although the time constraint helped with the 'deconstructive painting style, random 3d, hollow effects and negative spaces played a big role.

Katmai National Park
This is Otis - one of the more dominant bears in the area. Otis is about to catch a spawning Sockeye Salmon. For any sized animal, Otis is incredibly quick, but he is especially impressive given his enormous size. He can be identified by a light patch on his right shoulder.

Papery texture.
Poppy is the common name given to the plant genus known by the scientific name of Papaver.
The field poppy (Papaver rhoeas), like this here, has always been a symbol of death and rebirth, and no other flower combines exquisite delicacy of tissue with such a vibrant blaze of colour.
Poppies are flowering plants with delicate, papery petals in a variety of shapes and vibrant hues.
There are more than 70 distinct species in the poppy (papaver) genus, including opium poppies (Papaver somniferum), corn poppies (Papaver rhoeas) and Oriental poppies (Papaver orientale).
Poppies are an excellent addition to mixed beds, borders and cut arrangements.
