Given a second day of fog over the Golden Gate Bridge this weekend, I decided to try something different. Fortunately, it worked out.

Trajan's Market is the name given in the early 20th century CE to a complex of buildings in the imperial fora of Rome constructed in 107-110 CE during the reign of Trajan. The complex included a covered market, small shop fronts and a residential apartment block.
The complex was built at one end of Trajan's Forum and includes buildings that had a number of different functions, predominantly commercial. Constructed on three different levels into the terraced hillside behind, access to the various parts was provided via connecting staircases. The ground level shallow alcoves opened onto a street and were used for small shops whilst there were more shops in the arcades above. The ground level alcoves are of uneven depth due to the fact that they were constructed following the bedrock of the hill. Originally, they would have all been framed with travertine, extending their capacity for displaying goods. One alcove (5th from the left) has been restored to illustrate the original look and also has the typical window above the lintel.
The ground level shallow alcoves opened onto a street and were used for small shops whilst there were more shops in the arcades above.
On the upper level, access staircases were built at each end of via Biberatica running above the semi-circular façade. A large uppermost central building was used as an apartment block. . In front of the whole complex, separated by a tufa wall but accessible through a large central gateway, was the Exhedra and Porticus of Trajan's Forum.
The buildings are largely constructed using concrete and faced with brick, and it is one of the finest examples of Imperial Roman architecture using these materials. The decorative semi-circular façade includes brick pilasters with travertine bases and capitals framing each archway on the second level. Decorative brick-work gives an added elegance, including entablatures of carved brick and alternate triangular and semi-circular pediments. White stucco would have once covered much of this brickwork and the pilasters, entablature, and pediments display evidence of having once been painted red.
The name of the street on the upper level of the Market was via Biberatica, perhaps from the Latin biber - meaning drink - and hinting at the various drinking establishments which served the market shoppers. The principal products sold at the market would have come from across the empire and included fruit, vegetables, fish, wine, oil, and spices such as pepper.
The whole complex became part of a medieval fortress in the 12th and 13th centuries CE with the notable addition of the huge tower, the Torre delle Milizie. First properly excavated in the 1920s and 1930s CE, the site quickly acquired the name Trajan's Market and it not only stands as one of the most imposing ruins of Imperial Rome but is also the current home of the Museum of the Imperial Forums.[World History website]
Just right of the column is a restored shop to show the original design. Also note the marble sheet in front of the column.
Given I'm more of a run and gun photographer (don't have the patience) - I did give myself a few moments to properly plan this composition - looking at foreground, midground, background - with an implied movement of objects from the rocks, to the building, to the lighthouse in the background.

Jesus came to bring spiritual LIFE to the spiritually dead and set the captives FREE! FREE from RELIGION, ERROR and outright LIES, so WE might serve THE LIVING GOD! In SPIRIT and in TRUTH!
So you'll KNOW, and not think you're to bad for God to love. The Christian LIFE isn't about how good WE are, because NONE of us are! It's about how GOOD JESUS IS! Because JESUS LOVES US, so much he died in our place and took the punishment for all of our sins on himself. The wages of sin is DEATH, and Jesus took the death WE so richly deserved for us and died in our place. The good news is, there's no more punishment for sin left. WE, you and I were all born forgive as a result of the crucifixion of God himself on the cross that took away the sins of the whole world. All we have to do is believe it, and put your Faith in the finished work of Jesus Christ. That my friends is REAL UNCONDITIONAL LOVE! YOU ARE LOVED. ❤️ ✝️ ❤️

The original Winter Gardens, built onto the south-facing side of Sunderland Museum, were badly damaged during WW2. It wasn't until 2001, when the adjacent Mowbray Park was given a major make-over, that the new Winter Gardens were built.
The new Winter Gardens contain more than 2,000 flowers and plants!
Taken from, what was, Kiveton Colliery pit tip and now Kiveton Community Woodland, a nature reserve. I don't know why, but it makes me feel proud.
This was an amazing place to witness. It was an Inca laboratory in which they tested different temperatures and weather conditions, given by how deep it was. If I'm not mistaken. each step down means around 3°C more (I'm not sure about that). The lower ones were used to test tropical plants, while on the top ones they made more cold-weather plants grow.
There were two more laboratories like this one, just out of the frame, but they weren't on the same condition as this one.

Given Empire was our main target I timed the aerial assault so CN would be loading. Well, on our first pass the second half of the empty train was there but no power. As we moved on to Eagle Mills I saw the light power going under a haul road just north of Empire so it was easy pickings on our return attempt. Here the train (U741) loads at Empire's Super Pocket (the original unused loading pockets are off to the right)
This was seriously challenging to capture given the equipment I have - and I don't think I've done it justice so I'll probably have to try again at the beginning of dusk or just go for a daytime capture. The street lights present real problems, as does the alignment of the road and busy traffic. Oh well, here it is anyway.

Bastille Day. Bastille Day is the common name given in English-speaking countries to the national day of France, which is celebrated on 14 July each year. In French, it is formally called la Fête nationale ( French pronunciation: [la fɛt nasjɔnal];
Given the departmental number ADB968013 when it was converted into a carriage heating unit, the former 31013 is at Doncaster works for scrap, being cut in August 1983.

Given that the Chan Ancestral Hall on the central axis has three halls, the cluster of buildings came to be known as “Sam Tung Uk”, which literally means “a building with three ridge purlins”, with tung being the ridge of a hall. The Middle Hall was used for the gatherings of the Chan clan. A pair of screen doors helps avoid direct sight from the ancestral altar in the rear of the hall. Suspended above the screen doors is a plaque inscribed with the Chinese characters for “Greatly Respected Patriarch” (replica), which was bestowed by the Qing court on Chan Kin-sheung, to commend him for his good moral virtue and contributions to the area.
I rarely get political but given the state of affairs over in Europe (again) I thought I'd just show some support for Ukraine. Europe already started two world wars. I do not want them to start another one.
The United States has done a lot of stupid, stupid, stupid things over the last 200 years or so, but what Russia is doing in March of 2022 is one of the dumbest things I've seen in my lifetime. What does Putin and his goons expect to gain from this?
I grew up as a kid in the 1970s and was taught to be afraid of the Soviet Union and communism, and I feared the government, not the people.
I have lived through the US invading other countries for no logical reason, I've seen the US overthrow democratically elected presidents, elect an orange buffoon, and many, many, many other things I wish hadn't happened.
The US isn't perfect but at least I feel relatively safe here. Even so close to Baltimore. I can't imagine what the average Ukrainian citizen is living through right now.
This isn't my photo (I dug it up on google) but I will share it and state loud and clear FUCK PUTIN AND FUCK THE RUSSIAN MILITARY.

Given that these were taken in July, and the temperature had been 25 to 30 degrees, I think this should be considered summer rather than spring. My Lathyrus has produced lots of flowers as usual, but I think the combination of heat and lack of water (in spite of us watering) has made the flowers rather shortlived.
Torres del Paine National Park, Chilean Patagonia
The Cuernos del Paine or 'Paine horns' is a collective name given to a set of spiky granite peaks in Torres del Paine National Park, all of which stand at over 2000 metres high.
12 November, 1942
Our sergeant-major has taken me off maneuvres and given me a special job. I've got to dig a new latrine because the old one is already full up. Two Russian prisoners are supposed to help me with this task. Their face are unshaven and grey, with restless eyes. We have just finished digging, when one of the Russians throws his shovel down, and lunges past me directly into the trench. Me and the other Russian follows him. All three of us are now flat on our stomachs in the trench and can hear the rattle of aircraft canon as the shells hit the ground directly above us. Then a shadow, accompanied by a by a droning noise-which I know all too well-flies sideways over and past us. I peer over the edge of the trench, and see the Iron Gustav (plane) turning back. He shoots with his two wing-mounted canons, and drops some medium-sized bombs. Two more Russian planes appear in the sky. Our 20mm guns starts shooting at them, and an Iron Gustav gets hit. It crashes into the steppe and bursts into flame. The last two planes flee.
A couple vehicles and a bunker got hit, but nothing that can't be fixed.

After taking the picture of this, I realized that Gunter and the Russians were in the trench when the bullets hit the ground, so just imagine that the white dust isn't there... :P
Not my favorite build i've made, but I still quite like it. Thought that the net technique for the trench was pretty neat. Let me know if you've seen anyone else use it.

The wages of sin is DEATH, and Jesus took the death WE so richly deserved for us and died in our place. The good news is, there's no more punishment for sin left. WE, you and I were all born forgive as a result of the crucifixion of God himself on the cross that took away the sins of the whole world. My Santa cup was given to me by a friend years ago. I think it is actually a soup cup but, I use it for my coffee year round. She passed away from cancer three years ago. I miss her but, still have sweet memories of her as I drink my coffee. On the handle are painted the words; Here Comes Santa Claus.
The Pleiades (also known as the Seven Sisters, the Little Hen, or by the acronym M45 in Charles Messier's catalog) is an open cluster visible in the constellation of Taurus. This cluster is quite close (440 light years) and has several stars visible to the naked eye. In urban environments, only four or five of the brightest stars can be seen, in a darker place even twelve. All the components are surrounded by light reflection nebulae, observable especially in long exposure photographs taken with telescopes of considerable size.
It is noteworthy that the stars of the Pleiades are really close to each other, have a common origin and are linked by gravity.
Given their distance, the stars visible between the Pleiades are much hotter than normal, and this is reflected in their color: they are blue or white giants; the cluster actually has hundreds of other stars, many of which are too far away and cold to be seen with the naked eye. The Pleiades are a young cluster, with an estimated age of about 100 million years and a predicted life of only another 250 million years, since the stars are too far apart.
Because of their brightness and proximity to each other, the brightest stars of the Pleiades have been known since ancient times: they are mentioned, for example, by Homer and Ptolemy. The Nebra disk, a bronze artifact from 1600 BC found in the summer of 1999 in Nebra, Germany, is one of the oldest known representations of the cosmos: in this disk the Pleiades are the third clearly distinguishable celestial object after the Sun and the Moon.
Since it was discovered that stars are celestial bodies similar to the Sun, it was hypothesized that some were somehow linked to each other. Thanks to the study of proper motion and the scientific determination of the distances of the stars, it became clear that the Pleiades are indeed gravitationally linked and that they have a common origin.
The Pleiades cluster is located north of the celestial equator, therefore in the Northern Hemisphere; its declination is about 24°N, so it is close enough to the celestial equator to be observable from all populated areas of the Earth, up to the Antarctic Circle. North of the Arctic Circle they appear circumpolar, while one degree north of the Tropic of Cancer they can be observed at the zenith. In the Northern Hemisphere the cluster dominates the evening sky from mid-autumn to early spring, in the Southern Hemisphere it is typical of the summer sky.

Jesus came to bring spiritual LIFE to the spiritually dead and set the captives FREE! FREE from RELIGION, ERROR and outright LIES, so WE might serve THE LIVING GOD! In SPIRIT and in TRUTH!
So you'll KNOW, and not think you're to bad for God to love. The Christian LIFE isn't about how good WE are, because NONE of us are! It's about how GOOD JESUS IS! Because JESUS LOVES US, so much he died in our place and took the punishment for all of our sins on himself. The wages of sin is DEATH, and Jesus took the death WE so richly deserved for us and died in our place. The good news is, there's no more punishment for sin left. WE, you and I were all born forgive as a result of the crucifixion of God himself on the cross that took away the sins of the whole world. All we have to do is believe it, and put your Faith in the finished work of Jesus Christ. That my friends is REAL UNCONDITIONAL LOVE! YOU ARE LOVED. ❤️ ✝️ ❤️
