Normally the activity itself and the visitors give an air of effervescence, really the opposite of this photograph.

Jesus came to bring spiritual LIFE to the spiritually dead and set the captives FREE! FREE from RELIGION, ERROR and outright LIES, so WE might serve THE LIVING GOD! In SPIRIT and in TRUTH!
So you'll KNOW, and not think you're to bad for God to love. The Christian LIFE isn't about how good WE are, because NONE of us are! It's about how GOOD JESUS IS! Because JESUS LOVES US, so much he died in our place and took the punishment for all of our sins on himself. The wages of sin is DEATH, and Jesus took the death WE so richly deserved for us and died in our place. The good news is, there's no more punishment for sin left. WE, you and I were all born forgive as a result of the crucifixion of God himself on the cross that took away the sins of the whole world. All we have to do is believe it, and put your Faith in the finished work of Jesus Christ. That my friends is REAL UNCONDITIONAL LOVE! YOU ARE LOVED. ❤️ ✝️ ❤️

Not sure what the status is with the original 'Maritime One' given the deal and repaints in DBC. A welcome sight therefore before a possible repaint, to capture this loco at the head of 6L61, under an STP. This was the forth train to traverse the Rylstone branch since midnight and it wasn't even 9am. Another three were seen later in the day.

The Forth Bridge was opened in 1890, having been 8 years in the construction. It was started in the knowledge that, given the poor safety standards of the time, men would die in the process. At its peak, approximately 4,600 workers were employed in the bridge's construction.
As of 2009 it was recorded that 73 men lost their lives in accidents. A memorial on shore records their names and occupations.
Two new bridges have since been constructed nearby: The Forth Road Bridge and The Queensferry Crossing.
For me, this original bridge is the most 'handsome' and characterful. We visited on a late autumn evening and stayed for sunset. The gathering dusk gave a sombre and reflective mood.

The British Hide and Seek Championship reached an exciting crescendo when Reginald Shuttlecock spotted Gertrude Bracegirdle in a well contested final, citing that it was the way she wore her cream coloured hat that had given her away. Mr Shuttlecock goes on to represent Britain in the European Championships later this year. Have a wonderful weekend, everybody! :)

The wages of sin is DEATH, and Jesus took the death WE so richly deserved for us and died in our place. The good news is, there's no more punishment for sin left. WE, you and I were all born forgive as a result of the crucifixion of God himself on the cross that took away the sins of the whole world. (Chionis albus). The snowy sheathbill does not have webbed feet and is the only landbird native to the Antarctic continent. The Snowy Sheathbill is the dustbin of the bird world in the Antarctic regions. It is an omnivore, a scavenger, and a kleptoparasite and will eat nearly anything. It steals regurgitated krill and fish from penguins when feeding their chicks and will eat their eggs and chicks if given the opportunity. Sheathbills also eat carrion and animal faeces.

This shot isn't anything special given that its just a light unit sitting in the shade. But the location is just so cool that I used my wide angle to just capture the whole scene. This lone YN2 AC4400CW is the local power for Selkirk based B765, the Hudson Grain train here on the old Boston and Albany Hudson and Chatham branch now known as CSXT's Claverack Industrial Track.
In addition to the famous two blocks of street running the train also amazingly cuts right through the middle of the town square park. Sharp eyes will note the Hannukah Menorah lit up for the season, and of course just out of frame at left is a Christmas tree too. The crew had paused for a while by the old depot (and soon to be brewery) then pulled across the crossing and stopped right here in the center of town for another break. The conductor kept the locomotive company while the engineer walked to grab a coffee then chatted it up with a local lady and her dog and even loaded a baby up on the engine for some photos. It was all quite amusing and charming in a strange old fashioned railroading kind of way....I suppose it is that whole juxtaposition of time and place contrasting with the norm of modern railroading that makes this job so appealing to watch. I don't know...forgive my rambled musings...this place is just simply too cool to resist, and it continuely calls me back!

So you'll KNOW, and not think you're to bad for God to love. The Christian LIFE isn't about how good WE are, because NONE of us are! It's about how GOOD JESUS IS! Because JESUS LOVES US, so much he died in our place and took the punishment for all of our sins on himself. The wages of sin is DEATH, and Jesus took the death WE so richly deserved for us and died in our place. The good news is, there's no more punishment for sin left. WE, you and I were all born forgive as a result of the crucifixion of God himself on the cross that took away the sins of the whole world. All we have to do is believe it, and put your Faith in the finished work of Jesus Christ. That my friends is REAL UNCONDITIONAL LOVE! YOU ARE LOVED. ❤️ ✝️ ❤️

Memorial Day weekend - a time to remember and honor those who have given their lives for love of country and our freedom. (I didn't put the flag there)

I am posting tonite, as I am hoping to get out early tomorrow. I have tried that before, we will see how it goes.
This is Lifer 3b. I believe this to be a male. I don't have much luck in capturing birds in flight, but got lucky in a sequence of about a ten shot burst, where only one was out of focus. I could not decide which to post, as I like each for different reasons, so thought I would post these two together. I like the top image because the wings look so graceful and long, and I like the bottom image as you can see more of the white and also what looks to be a bit of a rosy coloured chest plus I like how it's mouth is open showing kind of saw like texture on it's upper mandible near it's face.
It's funny, I also tried a number of shots of Black Terns in flight, or in truth hovering and they did not turn out as well as these or the the ones where the Terns were really ripping. I certainly haven't given up on BIF, but definitely my confidence level is low. I don't expect success, so it is pretty cool when I have some. Detail in full view may not be as microfine as more experienced (and more talented) shooters, but for me I am more than thrilled with both.
As I prepare for this years #Photo24London event it seemed apt that I interupt my Norfolk shots and upload this alternative versions of one of my favourite shots from last years event. Given the less than brilliant weather forecast I suspect this tunnel under Kings Cross might be somewhere I return too this year........

Little art to this one, but a pleasing enough impact given the combination of train, sun and the signal gantry.
GBRf 'Shed' 66789 approaches Basingstoke on the Up Slow with the 10.31am Southampton Western Docks - Ditton (Merseyside) containers (4M59). At the end of the platform behind me, the train will turn sharp left and head towards Reading, Oxford and north through the West Midlands.
The container working on the left of the frame is 4O27, the tail-end of which is just passing through the station (see shot a couple of uploads ago).
South Western Trains class 450, unit 450059 (with a sister set behind), waits on its next turn - probably a local up to London Waterloo.

The stained glass windows of Notre-Dame, particularly the three rose windows, are among the most famous features of the cathedral. The west rose window, over the portals, was the first and smallest of the roses in Notre-Dame. It is 9.6 metres in diameter, and was made in about 1225, with the pieces of glass set in a thick circular stone frame. None of the original glass remains in this window; it was recreated in the 19th century.
The two transept windows are larger and contain a greater proportion of glass than the rose on the west façade, because the new system of buttresses made the nave walls thinner and stronger. The north rose was created in about 1250, and the south rose in about 1260. The south rose in the transept is 12.9 metres in diameter; with the claire-voie surrounding it, a total of 19 metres. It was given to the cathedral by King Louis IX of France, known as Saint Louis.
The south rose has 94 medallions, arranged in four circles, depicting scenes from the life of Christ and those who witnessed his time on earth. The inner circle has twelve medallions showing the twelve apostles. During later restorations, some of these original medallions were moved to circles farther out. The next two circles depict celebrated martyrs and virgins. The fourth circle shows twenty angels, and saints important to Paris, such as Saint Denis, Margaret the Virgin with a dragon, and Saint Eustace. The third and fourth circles also have some depictions of Old Testament subjects. The third circle has some medallions with scenes from the New Testament Gospel of Matthew which date from the last quarter of the 12th century. These are the oldest glass in the window.
Additional scenes in the corners around the rose window include Jesus's Descent into Hell, Adam and Eve, the Resurrection of Christ. Saint Peter and Saint Paul are at the bottom of the window, and Mary Magdalene and John the Apostle at the top.
Above the rose was a window depicting Christ triumphant seated in the sky, surrounded by his Apostles. Below are sixteen windows with painted images of Prophets. These were painted during the restoration in the 19th century by Alfred Gérenthe, under the direction of Eugène Viollet-le-Duc, based upon a similar window at Chartres Cathedral.
The south rose had a difficult history. In 1543 it was damaged by the settling of the masonry walls, and not restored until 1725–1727. It was seriously damaged in the French Revolution of 1830. Rioters burned the residence of the archbishop, next to the cathedral, and many of the panes were destroyed. The window was rebuilt by Viollet-le-Duc in 1861 who rotated it by fifteen degrees to give it a clear vertical and horizontal axis, and replaced the destroyed pieces of glass with new glass in the same style. The window now contains both medieval and 19th-century glass.
In the 1960s, after three decades of debate, it was decided to replace many of the 19th-century grisaille windows in the nave designed by Viollet-le-Duc with new windows. The new windows, made by Jacques Le Chevallier, are without human figures and use abstract designs and colour to try to recreate the luminosity of the cathedral's interior in the 13th century.
The fire left the three great medieval rose windows mostly intact, but with some damage. The rector of the cathedral noted that one rose window would have to be dismantled, as it was unstable and at risk. Most of the other damaged windows were of much less historical value.
In early 2024 Macron proposed removing six of the seven undamaged 19th-century stained glass windows created by Eugene Viollet-le-Duc in the chapels along the south aisle of the nave, and replacing them with new windows with more contemporary designs. He invited contemporary artists to submit designs for the new windows. This proposal inspired a backlash in the press, and 140,000 people signed a petition to keep the old windows. The plan for contemporary windows was rejected by the French Commission on Architectural Monuments and Patrimony in July 2024.

A couple of weeks ago I was given the chance to photograph this adorable little border collie puppy Hope. Hope was too young too go out in public due to vaccinations, so the shoot took place in my garden. Some of the shots like this one were taken with studio lighting.
After having success photographing cats against hessian, silk and other textiles I invested in a canvas backdrop from Bespoke Backdrops UK - Hand Painted Photography Backdrops in a lovely powder blue, and sat cutesome pup Hope in a wicker cat basket. Sher spent a fair bit of time knocking it over and otherwise destroying the set but I'm super happy with this shot of her...more to follow in the next week or two as we see Hope jumping, cuddling and rolling around!

This poor bluebird has been crying for a mate for weeks. He sits on the bluebird house and constantly calls. He has finally given up and has left.
Given the low train volume on the "Meridian Speedway" getting a train going the right direction during the couple hour time window this shot is well lit is far from a certainty. While I was disappointed to see NS power rather than "home road" CPKC power, I'm not going to complain. The sun even popped out on a pretty rough weather day so I was happy enough with what I got. I'm pretty sure the train was CPKC I168 (becomes NS 26A). Vicksburg, MS 4/2/2024

The knot is a dumpy, short-legged, stocky wading bird. In winter, It is grey above and white below; in summer the chest, belly and face are brick-red. In flight, it shows a pale rump and a faint wing-stripe. It forms huge flocks in winter which wheel and turn in flight, flashing their pale underwings as they twist and turn. Many knots use UK estuaries as feeding grounds, both on migration and in winter, and therefore the population is vulnerable to any changes such as barrages, sea-level rises and human disturbance. Large numbers of birds visit the UK in winter from their Arctic breeding grounds.

My house is built on hallowed ground and land that was reclaimed from the sea. It suits the essence of me and calms my spirit to walk in my garden knowing that it was left for many years, an abandoned place until the house was built and the stony and sandy ground where nothing much grew except ancient plants; wild flowers that blew in on the wind. Then someone planted trees from all four corners of the earth and plants that should not have survived began to flourish as if the roots of these trees breathed new life into the earth. There have been only a few guardians of this magical place and I am honoured to be the current guardian. At first I tried to plant what I liked; tried to enforce my will on this holy place, but in time I realised something … you cannot force a garden to grow; to bend to your will. A garden evolves slowly over time of it's own accord mostly and we, as guardians, should allow it to guide us. In this way I have found peace and happiness here and I embrace the changes of my ever-evolving garden. I seldom buy anything new to plant. I wait for the winds; I wait for the seasons; I witness the changes and I grow and evolve as a person in much the same way as my garden does. It is a joy to anticipate each new season; each new wind; and to see what appears. There is always something unexpected appearing. Life is full of surprises; of serendipitous moments. I wonder sometimes about these old trees. I think whoever planted them was guided and perhaps the garden welcomed the dappled shade on what once was a desert. Certainly I feel myself sometimes directed to introduce a new species. Perhaps I am guided also by a hand that I cannot fathom. We are not meant to understand everything. If we allow ourselves to just be, we may find, without effort, how our path unfolds with relative ease. I have found this to be the case. All those years of struggle and now I can just let go … it really is that easy to be content.
p.s. I was compelled reluctantly to remove a Laburnum tree that I thought might be harmful to my cats. I had always wanted such a tree with it's beautiful yellow flowers … but in it's place a Forsythia grew with a profusion of yellow flowers. I did not plant it! Magic? Yes, I believe so! : 0)

emerge in brilliant sunshine

but still we often ignore
the instincts that are given

to only see clearly to the end of our noses
we fail to stop often to smell the scent of the roses
take stock; stand still
absorb the nature of all living things
for in this garden I discovered
nature brings happiness and happiness brings
peace of mind; plentiful bounty
the sweetest fruits of the earth
the love that will bind us
circumnavigate the world's girth
here I find every day all that I need
the flora; the fauna; all that set seed
and I've no desire to be anywhere else
as much as I desire to be here
in this garden full of Heaven

Given how shabby most Class 1s are looking now in the era of "Precision Stock Manipulation" haven't had a whole lot of motivation to get out for the usual stuff around home. That might be a different story if I lived somewhere like this where the scenery more than makes up for the dirty orange monotony! Oh who am I kidding, I wouldn't last a week in Montana during winter time.
It's definitely one of the scenes that has been shot to death during these final days of the MRL, but this spot near Perma still has to be my personal favorite. Mountains, river, big trees, pretty much everything that sums up Montana.
Got given a day off work yesterday and thought the rainforest might be a great place to hangout, get a bit of exercise, chill out and take a few photos. A couple of tourists tried to spoil the peace by flying their drone, unfortunately the drone crashed into the trees above me then into the river, karma. I had a little chuckle on the inside : )

Mothering Sunday is always during lent here, on the 4th Sunday, and it has been celebrated since the early church.
Centuries ago it was considered important for people to return to their home or 'mother' church once a year, which inevitably became an occasion for family reunions. It was this that led to the tradition of children, particularly those working as domestic servants or apprentices away from home, being given the day off to visit and take gifts to their mothers. Mothering Sunday was also known as Refreshment Sunday, because the fasting rules for Lent were relaxed on that day.
Something began pulsating when they injected me and in my head I thought it wouldn't be long and I would soon be in the daylight. I was being given instructions and counselled patiently, by voices, and I could not move. I was staring at this picture projected on the wall, this picture of you I had taken when you were sitting on the couch at our house. I was so afraid and alone, and I wanted to touch you… I remember tracing your smile on the wall, your eyes, the mellow descent of your nose… lost in your face as my mind was slowly dissolving and being laboriously recomposed elsewhere… the shreds and islands of silver under my hands, fused in my reluctant and paralysed disbelief, memories of you like rain thought my eyes. Something began pulsating when they injected me and in my head I thought it wouldn't be long and I would soon be in the daylight.

16 I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for the SALVATION of everyone WHO BELIEVES: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile. 17 For in the gospel a RIGHTEOUSNESS FROM GOD IS REVEALED, a righteousness that is by FAITH FROM FIRST TO LAST, just as it is written: "THE RIGHTEOUS WILL LIVE BY FAITH." 16 KNOW that a man is NOT justified by observing the law, but by FAITH IN JESUS CHRIST. So we, too, have put our faith in Christ Jesus that we may be JUSTIFIED BY FAITH in CHRIST and NOT by observing the law, BECAUSE BY OBSERVING THE LAW NO ONE WILL BE JUSTIFIED. (Galatians 2:16)

9. For I am the least of the apostles and do not even deserve to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God. 10. But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace to me was not without effect. No, I worked harder than all of them--yet not I, but the grace of God that was with me. 11. Whether, then, it was I or they, this is what we preach, and this is what you believed. (1 Corinthians 15:1-11)
7. Therefore Jesus said again, "I tell you the truth, I am the gate for the sheep. 8. All who ever came before me were thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not listen to them. 9. I am the gate; whoever enters through me WILL BE SAVED. He will come in and go out, and find pasture. 10. The thief comes only to STEAL and KILL and DESTROY; I have come that they may have LIFE, and have it to the FULL. (John 10:7-10)
1 Brothers, my heart's desire and prayer to God for the Israelites is that they may be saved. 2 For I can testify about them that they are zealous for God, but their zeal is not based on knowledge. 3 Since they did not know the righteousness that comes from God and sought to establish their own, they did not submit to God's righteousness. 4 Christ is the end of the law so that there may be righteousness for everyone who believes.
5 Moses describes in this way the righteousness that is by the law: "The man who does these things will live by them." 6 But the righteousness that is by faith says: "Do not say in your heart, 'Who will ascend into heaven?'" (that is, to bring Christ down) 7 "or 'Who will descend into the deep?'" (that is, to bring Christ up from the dead). 8 But what does it say? "The word is near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart," that is, the word of faith we are proclaiming: 9 That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved. 11 As the Scripture says, "Anyone who trusts in him will never be put to shame." 12 For there is no difference between Jew and Gentile--the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on him, 13 for, "Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved." (Romans 10:1-13)
Jesus came to bring spiritual LIFE to the spiritually dead and set the captives FREE! FREE from RELIGION, ERROR and outright LIES, so WE might serve THE LIVING GOD! In SPIRIT and in TRUTH!
So you'll KNOW, and not think you're to bad for God to love. The Christian LIFE isn't about how good WE are, because NONE of us are! It's about how GOOD JESUS IS! Because JESUS LOVES US, so much he died in our place and took the punishment for all of our sins on himself. The wages of sin is DEATH, and Jesus took the death WE so richly deserved for us and died in our place. The good news is, there's no more punishment for sin left. WE, you and I were all born forgive as a result of the crucifixion of God himself on the cross that took away the sins of the whole world. All we have to do is believe it, and put your Faith in the finished work of Jesus Christ. That my friends is REAL UNCONDITIONAL LOVE! YOU ARE LOVED. ❤️ ✝️ ❤️

In November 2023 a Cattle Tyrant, a bird of South America that supposedly had never been seen north of Panama, was identified in downtown Corpus Christi. The bird, the first ever reported in North America, set up shop near a dumpster behind a restaurant and became an avian sensation, drawing birders from near and far. It disappeared last summer but in the Fall of 2024 a Cattle Tyrant was spotted again in the same location. Given the same location and only one of these having ever been spotted in North America, I can only surmise this is that same tyrant.
