With the sun quickly setting behind the mountains in the west, Union Pacific's Permanente Local catches the final few minutes of direct light at the pair of engines work their way up to Lehigh Cement for the final time. Much of the area has become covered in shadows with the exception of a small section of track that is unobstructed from the sun's rays. Once clear of this zone, the remainder of the trip would be completed under the cover of darkness. While things were peaceful down where I captured this photo, there was quite the kerfluffle a few hundred few away from me up the hill as another group of photographers got hassled by security. By the time I walked up to where my car was parked, security was blocking the road west of here, meaning any photos at the cement plant itself would be unattainable.

The turn to Bowling Green has a flared SD70MAC leading as it rolls down the #2 Main at Lebanon Junction. Welders were working on the #1 somewhere which meant the southbounds were on the preferred track(in my opinion) for photos.

CN 3982 & CN 2283 is the power on a late CN 401, which has a string of TankTrain cars up front. CN 3982 was previously on lease to CN as CREX 1515. That lease ended a few years back, but CN has now bought 75 ex-CREX units.

Pan Am's POWA (Portland - Waterville) continues east through central Maine, curving around Maranacook Lake in Winthrop. MEC 608, another uncommon visitor to Pan Am's District 1, leads four GP40s with an April Fools worthy consist of fifty-seven cars. The old American crane on the headpin, and six spine cars on the rear with thirty Eimskip containers certainly looked out of place, but with any luck, the containers will soon become a daily sight on the trains in and out of Waterville.

Today was a beautiful day and we decided to take a drive out to Tarana again to get a few photos at the station and we were quite surprised when we sure a 7 diesel engine freight train come through while we were there. I was trackside while Ian was standing on the pltaform,

missed this one a few weeks ago, caught it again today.... lighting sucked. oh well.... it pulled out right as my camera snapped the shot. perfect timing....

After setting off two GP20C-ECO's for local service at Delson, the crew is getting back onboard; in a few minutes the train will depart Delson for the Lacolle Sub. At left is the advance station sign for St-Constant, a mile to the north of here. Partly visible at right is Stella-Jones Inc., which produces railway ties and utility poles.

After a quick climb up the hill from Truckee, the hot ZG2LT, led by a ragged AC4400CW, rolls out of Tunnel 41, the big hole. From here to Lathrop, the run should be easy for this train.

Curving south bound for Council Bluffs

New Haven Railroad GE 44 Ton diesel locomotive switchers 0800 & 0802 are seen spotted on a siding along side the electric zone main lines in Connecticut, ca 1960. The days are coming to an end for these old diesel locomotives switchers. Interesting too, but there is an old sweeping broom laying on the walkway of locomotive 0800.

When I die, oh bury me deep

Down at the end of old Chestnut Street

Place the stones at my head and feet

And tell them all I've gone to sleep

Freight train, freight train, run so fast

Freight train, freight train, run so fast

Please don't tell what train I'm on

They won't know what route I'm going...

After the hot rod guided me off of big rig crazy Interstate 80 and dropped me into downtown Colfax, I climbed out and slowly took in the joys of exiting the big city...mesmerizing...
