I was screwing around in downtown Rochester NY one morning, which a lot of time meant reading a book at the Amtrak station, which of course was on the busy Conrail main through the city. I vaguely remember a local come around the corner from the west, and then backing down the siding into the Genesee Brewery along the Genesee River.
Whatever the circumstances (the only thing I'm sure of was that I was screwing around downtown) I ended up exposing some Tri-X on the local switching the plant. Most of the siding was on stilts, so to speak along the side of the plant.
Google Maps makes it looks like the track is no longer used.

The Pointe St-Charles Switcher has CN 7726, CN 4135 and four cars to interchange to the Port of Montreal as it cools its heels, awaiting security to flag the crossings in this area.
The S curve near the elevator in the previous shot was enough to warrant dusting off my tele. Much better light in this one.
Interesting to see that a fair amount of RCPE power seems to be running through on the Tracy - Bensenville (?) 470/471's now. The more things change, the more they stay the same.

NS K21 rolls through CP SF in Sunbury, PA on their way down to Herndon led by GP38-2 5004. August 23, 2018.
When you get off of the adjacent four lane Highway 60 and closer to the Omaha Road tracks in northwest Iowa, you find that the railroad does a fair amount of curving and climbing to negotiate the rolling countryside. The southbound local out of Worthington, MN rounds a bend heading into Sibley, IA.

CN 529 has a nice lashup consisting of SD70M-2 NS 2764, C40-9 NS 8858 & SD40-2 NS 6137 as it passes the ground up remains of the tunnel that used to cover CN's Montreal sub here.
46 051 shunts vans at Warcop on the former NER Stainmore route. These contained ammunition for the Army Training Camp nearby in the mid 1980's. This traffic is long gone, lost to road transport.

Thanks to globalization german washing machines are built in Poland. The parts are delivered by train and truck, the assembled washing machines need the power of a train to be brought back to Germany, to Nauen just north of Berlin. Polish rail C T L delivers the train with an ancient romanian loco.
On the afternoon of Thanksgiving Day 2018, a westbound Union Pacific stack train ascends the grade east of Arlington, Nebraska. I visited the same hill last year on Thanksgiving, so maybe this will become a yearly tradition. I've shared some of my personal history with this location in the past, so I won't go over all that again.
I was pleased that, like last year, I didn't have to wait long to find a train here, even on a holiday. It's interesting to visit a location after a year to see what's the same and what has changed. Several years ago, I was surprised to see that UP had done grading work for a second main track. I keep thinking one of these years I'll come back and find the second track in place, but I guess traffic still hasn't picked up enough to do that yet. Maybe they never will at this point? A few differences between last year and this year include the fact that, owing to the healthy practice of crop rotation, the stubble in the field in the foreground is from soybeans instead of corn. Also, the view has been marred somewhat by the new power lines stretching across the valley.
I guess even these small things are reminders that a lot has changed in my life and in the world since my first visit to this hillside as a college freshman over 18 years ago. I'm sure more changes will come as the years go by, but hopefully I'll have many more chances to give thanks by enjoying watching a train or two here.

Loňský únor byl v kontextu všech dosavadních výprav velmi úspěšný. Prostě téměř od prvního okamžiku se dařilo ještě lépe, než jsme si mohli přát. Je druhý den ze tří, a naši pozornost upoutal jižní tah. Po přespání v Prešově jsme vyrazili směr Košice a Turňa nad Bodvou. K naší smůle (kupodivu i štěstí) z důvodu poruchy výhýbek manipulák do Veľkej Idy byl ukončen v Turni nad Bodvou. Mysleli jsme si, že je to náš konec. Jak se říká, i zlé věci jsou k něčemu dobré. Po návratu do Moldavy jsme viděli, že ještě neodjel Mn do Medzeva, jehož fotku jsem vydával někdy v začátku roku 2025. Díky té poruše jel později, příhodněji pro nás. Naštěstí nás do Moldavy hodil spolufotič, díky čemuž jsme stihli i tuhle fotku. Za úplně jasného odpoledne duní trojice Bardotek s loženkou Fallsů do Slavca kolem Dvorníků.

A pair of EMDs bring Q205 through Brooks in July 2009. I don't think this symbol was around long, though this was also the same time as the Great Recession, and train counts on the Main Line were way down, to less than 8-10 per day.
Progressive Rail has no shortage of traffic at its yard in Northfield, MN. With dozens of cars arriving daily from UP and CP for customers in Northfield, Faribault, Lakeville, Randolph and Cannon Falls, they must be doing something right.
Certainly not as attractive as the SD39/SD38-2 duo in MN&S inspired livery, but, good to see that business is booming. The third unit on this train, a blue CIT leaser (CEFX 3800), which leads the return job, is pretty good looking though.
Malt-o-Meal, or "MOM Brands" as they're called now, was founded in Northfield, and having grown up there, I'm a sucker for including them in my shots, even if it's a bit sidelit (sorry DK).
Keen-eyed viewers will also see the northbound Soo job, which will depart as soon as Progressive gets out of the way.
