A still morning in the Clark Fork River Valley reveals fog lifting off a calm surface of the water as BNSF’s MSPOLAU freight crosses the bridge west of Noxon, Montana, on October 2, 2014. Powering the eastbound train on Montana Rail Link’s Fourth Subdivision is a BNSF GE C44-9W, along with a leased Union Pacific GE C40-8, bracketing a trio of blue MRL EMD SD45s.

The sun has set, bringing a cloudy day in the Bay Area to a close with a beautiful deep blue sky before nightfall. All is quiet in Union Pacific's Milpitas Yard except for the crunch of ballast beneath the feet of a crewman with lantern swinging in hand as he walks alongside a set of engines that would soon leave for transfer to Lathrop. To the right of this set of engines sits the Union Pacific 2002, painted to commerate the 2002 Olympic Games which the railroad sponsored. The paint scheme of the engine compliments the sky wonderfully, and it would continue to view a few more nights as it was sidelined with a bad brake pipe. Meanwhile, the tracks ahead are clear and quietly await another train and it's locomotives that will soon rest upon them.

Am 9. Mai 2020 konnte ich in Bahnhof Pirschheide die LTE 193 729 mit einem Güterzug aus dem Niederländischen Tilburg nach Poznan fotografieren.

Curving through Arizona’s rugged Crozier Canyon is an eastbound freight led by three Santa Fe EMDs on March 6, 1996. Two SD40-2s lead a former Amtrak SDP40F “cowl”, rebuilt by Santa Fe at San Bernardino and labeled a SDF40-2.
After overextending themselves acquiring Milwaukee Road, Soo Line established a wholly-owned division called Lake States Transportation Division on February 10, 1986, to operate its mostly former Soo Line trackage in Wisconsin and prepare it for sale. With this move, older locomotives and some leased power began to be much more common on these lines. On March 22, 1987, a southbound Soo Line (Lake States) freight climbs to the top of Byron Hill at Byron, Wisconsin, powered by two Soo EMD GP9s and a leased Conrail EMD GP38.
On the morning of June 22, 2017, a northbound BNSF manifest freight curves along the Bighorn River in scenic Sheep Canyon between Greybull and Spence, Wyoming. Neat and unusual scenery for an old Chicago, Burlington & Quincy route.

On October 10, 2024, BNSF’s MRL Logan local makes its weekly trip to Whitehall, Montana, through the Jefferson River Canyon between Sappington and Whitehall. On the opposite side of the river is the empty grade of Milwaukee Road’s Pacific Extension, and I only wish I could have photographed a westbound freight led by a Little Joe from this location. I’d even settle (duh) for some Dash 2s!
Ein Bild aus der Zeit wo die Baureihe 182 der DB noch nicht in regionalen Reiseverkehr tätig war.. Zu sehen ist die 182 016 welche am 2. September 2004 mit einem KLV Zug gen Bremerhaven unterwegs war und unter der A1 Autobahn in Bremen Mahndorf fotografiert wurde.
Voordat de DB serie 182 in het regionale reizigersverkeer werd ingezet, waren deze locs dagelijks in het goederenverkeer op de Nord-Süd-Strecke te zien. Op de foto - van 2 september 2004 - rijdt de 182 016 met een lange goederentrein onder de A1 snelweg te Bremen Mahndorf richting Bremerhaven.
Long before the German class 182 engines were for regional passenger trains in the east of Germany, these engines could be seen hauling freight train from north to south and back on a daily basis. This was also the case on September 2nd 2004 when I was in Bremen Mahndorf and was able to spot engine 182 016 with a freight train destined for Bremerhaven.
Inmiddels zijn de BASF tankcontainertreinen, alhoewel ze nog steeds erg fraai zijn, niet heel bijzonder meer aangezien ze met enige regelmaat te zien zijn in Duitsland, Nederland en België. De tankcontainertreinen rijden af en aan bij BASF in Ludwigshafen en rijden momenteel voornamelijk via Nederland naar BASF in Antwerpen. Lineas is de vervoerder voor deze treinen en dus moet je wel geluk hebben dat er geen compleet grijze Railpool Traxx voor de trein te zien is. Gelukkig heb ik tot nu toe eigenlijk altijd wel een interessante tractie gezien, zo ook op 19 november 2019, toen deze treinen nog wel erg speciaal waren en minder vaak reden.
De Lineas 2831, met het nummer E186 223, komt met een compleet schone en groene BASF tankcontainertrein, op oranje Wascosa containerdraagwagens, door Bornheim gereden. De trein is in herfstachtige omstandigheden onderweg vanuit Ludwigshafen naar Antwerpen als ze op het nippertje kan worden afgedrukt. De trein had niet veel eerder moeten komen, anders had RTB Cargo het compleet verpest!
En van de eerste dag van de week gaan we naar de laatste van de vijf en daarnaast gaan we van het Maintal naar het Rheintal. Ik ga alles door elkaar uploaden zodat de variatie er een beetje in blijft, mocht je het verloop van de week willen zien raad ik je aan even op "Date Taken" te kijken ;)
De bedoeling op de laatste dag was 's ochtends nog in het Maintal te doorbrengen en dan via Frankfurt Flughafen, Thijs ging per trein direct naar huis, door te rijden naar Hammerstein. Daar wilden we de avondstek proberen en daarnaast hadden we uitgezocht dat CFL met een 4000 een keteltrein zou rijden vanuit Luxemburg richting Köln. We wisten niet 100% zeker of ze ook daadwerkelijk zou rijden, maar gelukkig was dit het geval en konden we haar in een heerlijk avondzonnetje fotograferen. De foto van deze trein uit Luxemburg volgt uiteraard later.
Naast CFL konden er nog vier andere fraaie treinen gefotografeerd worden op deze succesvolle avond langs de Rhein, waarvan twee grote verrassingen die ik eigenlijk totaal niet had verwacht. Beide verrassingen kwamen vanuit huize BLS Cargo waarvan de eerste een echte vloek was, namelijk een Hupac 193. Het wilde mij maar niet lukken zo'n blauwe Vectron te fotograferen. Een aantal keer kwam ik ze tegen maar continu vanuit de verkeerde kant. Vorige maand lukte het me bijna maar was ik een kwartier te vroeg vertrokken waardoor ik haar alsnog misliep. Gisteravond dus wilde het eindelijk lukken terwijl ik heel deze week geen enkele seconde aan een blauwe Hupac 193 had gedacht van BLS.
Het is 17:00 exact als de overweg voor de zoveelste keer op deze drukke vrijdagavond sluit. Het sein richting Bonn toonde opnieuw groen en na een minuutje wachten werd een blauw front zichtbaar in de verte. Uiteraard werd er gedacht aan een blauw exemplaar van SBB Cargo, maar naarmate de trein naderde zag ik een Hupac logo op de neus opdoemen en direct wist ik dat het dan eindelijk zo ver was. Een opkomende fotowolk die links al zichtbaar is op de heuvel, wist het bijna te verpesten maar gelukkig was die twee minuten te laat waardoor ik eindelijk weer een kleurstelling van het lijstje kon strepen!
Op de foto komt de BLS Cargo 193 496, de loc die vorig jaar verongelukte met een biodieseltrein in Niederlahnstein, voorbij Hammerstein gereden met de Jost Group trein vanuit Piacenza naar het Belgische Bierset-Awans. Dezelfde avond kon er nog een Vectron worden gefotografeerd waarbij ik zelf nooit meer had gedacht die te kunnen fotograferen. De foto van die nog specialere 193'er komt binnenkort ook op de pagina!
A quick heads up that POWA had the 374 leading this morning, and would be coming through Belgrade around 6:30 was plenty enough to motivate me to delay my much needed sleep to get a few shots in. The veteran high hood GP40 is leading a pair of SD40-2s as they roll past the old site of the Waterville station, long ago torn down, with a lengthy slug of Eimskip containers on the headend.

Canadian National run-through power guides an empty sand train up the grade into Lake Park, MN on a very cold January morning.
CPKC's westbound 121 is seen hauling up to the west end of the siding in Jackman, setting up the meet with the 12,000' 120 coming at them. The colorful 8781 is leading a CN AC44C6M, and a train of mostly containers, with the rear having just cleared the east end of the siding 6500' away.
As much as I try to avoid using my drone whenever possible, there are some times when I'm just too intrigued as to what it would look like. I didn't expect the view of the Battle River Valley, looking northeast, to be half as pretty as this - but I couldn't help but feel amazed looking at the drone controller. A westbound grain train led by a newly rebuilt AC44C6M set the stage, as they rolled across the expanse. Although the trestle looks smaller from the sky, the true size of it is amplified when you can see the whole train in one image. I try not to fall in love with drone images too often, as I think they're kind of cheating… but I couldn't think of a better photo to end the trip with.

Vrijdag 8 maart werd het mooie zonnige weer benut om erop uit te trekken om treinen te spotten en fotograferen. De Bentheimroute werd bezocht en qua goederenverkeer was het erg rustig. Waarschijnlijk had dit te maken met de spoorwegstaking in Duitsland. De goederentreinen die op de foto werden gezet waren meer dan de moeite waard. Eén van deze treinen was de Pon-trein van DB Cargo. Locomotief 193 329 van DBC is met de lege Pon-trein onderweg naar Bad Bentheim.

Ein weiterer Kesselzug konnte am 25. Juni bei Dollnstein im Altmühltal fotografiert werden. Die von Railpool angemietete 186 431-3 fährt für das EVU "RBP - Rheinische Bahnpersonal- und Verkehrsgesellschaft mbH" mit Sitz in Siegburg und trägt die seitliche Werbeaufschrift #daBAHNtsichwasan.
Another tank train was photographed on June 25th near Dollnstein in the Altmühl Valley. The 186 431-3, rented from Railpool, is in service for the EVU "RBP - Rheinische Bahnpersonal- und Verkehrsgesellschaft mbH" based in Siegburg and bears the advertising slogan #daBAHNtsichwasan on the side.
