The last light of day fades away as the high priority produce train from Delano, CA to Cheyenne, WY nears its destination at Cheyenne yard. The train will pick up cars in Cheyenne, change symbols, and continue its journey east through the night.

What would unfortunately be the end of the chase of this train. CSX 7784 had been approaching us rather slowly and we had heard an emergency application as it approached. For the rest of the afternoon, the crew and the diesel doctor would attempt to fix the constant PCS opening and no flow on the train with seemingly no success. Eventually, the crew would end up turning the first 4 motors to have a UP leader hoping it would fix the issue.
Six units, including a pair of KCSM ES44AC's, lead the Q-ALTPTL up the final stretch of the grade into Palmer Lake on a frosty October day.

Sun is setting over a sleepy shunting yard in Esslingen, Württemberg. The old, unsuspecting nightwatchman just started his rounds. Not knowing there is an unscrupulous crook around the next corner. How will this encounter end?
After seeing www.flickr.com/photos/thomas_reincke/52972245863/in/datep... posting his beautiful Württemberg Guterwagens/boxcars I wanted to post my own rendition. I've also got my hands on some dark green 1x2 tiles in the Lego online store and was finally able to build a boxcar in dark green. The techniques used in the design are much similar to my boxcars for cattle but I had to find a way to make the sides without the 2x4 and 2x3 tiles which are either not available in dark green or in case of the first more expensive than gold. After some puzzling I found a - very parts intensive @Nick ;) - solution and this afternoon I took an hour to create this small diorama.
The boxcar is Epoche 1 and based on this Marklin model: rlp.museum-digital.de/object/60607
I’m probably going to use it as the first car for an upcoming Bavarian freight train/guterzug.

Delaware-Lackawanna train PO-74 arrives at Tobyhanna, PA and gets right to work switching customers located there. At the left of the frame is the 1910 DL&W Switch Tower. This concrete structure is evidence of how busy the Lackawanna Railroad's three track mainline was. At present this track is operated by the Delaware-Lackawanna and only sees a handful of trains a week. The power this day was M636 3643 and 3007.
Loose change taped to the shiny rails glistens under the early afternoon sun. A memento of sorts, I suppose, soon to be squished to smithereens by the world's largest steam locomotive, Union Pacific's Big Boy Number 4014. As the hot summer sun climbs higher into the sky, so too does the anticipation from the steadily growing crowd of onlookers, who are quickly assembling at an otherwise unassuming bend in a railroad freight line situated along a dirt road where the legality of trespassing is as steamy as the soon-to-arrive locomotive. Everyone here is gathered for the same reason, to catch a glimpse of Big Boy as it rumbles west, on its way through Braddock and onward past Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and eventually toward Cheyenne, Wyoming on its coast to coast tour across America.
Soon, the rails begin to quiver and squeal with heavy weighted emotion, as the low growl of Big Boy's horn can be heard echoing off the adjacent mountains. A cloud of steam appears in the distance as the locomotive begins to round the bend. The crowd packs in tight against the right of way, getting as close to rails as possible without being physically dragged under by the monstrous train. It's a mosh pit in the center, a small child darts across the rail gauge, escaping the mob with just moments to spare. Rail fanatics are foaming at the mouth, their tripods as erect as they are. Like a series of solar panels designed to move with the sun as it tracks across the sky, the large crowd shifts in synchronicity from left to right as Big Boy whips past. And just like that it's over. The steam clears and so too does the crowd. People make the hike back to their oversized SUV's, their faces plastered to their little black mirrors, sharing the same photo everyone else took of Big Boy to their favorite dead internet social media site. It becomes clear to me that the real thrill however, was the crowd itself. It was a day that Americans of a multitude of shapes and sizes came together to trespass, all to catch a glimpse of a very Big Boy.
Diesel locomotive 2TE116-1078 of BaltTransService (BTS) hauls the oil tanks train at the join of "Ghost Road" -- old railway line, that connected the Kozmodem'yansk station at main line of Northern Railway and Tenino station of Rybinsk direction bypassing Yaroslavl.
Probably, this road wasn't built completely: on old maps it is shown as "building" or as "disassembled". And now I stand on a mound, overgrown with grass, that stretches to the right of me for about 20+ kilometers.

Скорее всего, эта дорога не была полностью достроена: на старых картах она нарисована то как строящаяся, то как разобранная. А я стою на поросшей травой насыпи, которая тянется направо от меня на 20 с лишним километров.

160+ years old since it was completed, Horseshoe Curve just outside of Altoona, PA is one of the handful of locations that is to most railfans; a sort of mecca needing to be visited at least once in their lifetime.
Here, a set of helper SD40Es is assisting a heavy junk freight down the mountain to Altoona passing an old GP9 wearing PRR markings.

The new order, a relatively ex works DB Cargo 66651 eases around the curve at Plumley with 6H02 Arpley Sidings - Tunstead empty Brunner Mond hoppers.
66651 (ex 66221) has recently been out-shopped from Toton after being re-geared to handle heavier trains in response to DB withdrawing their remaining class 60's. This working has been in the hands of tugs since as long as I can remember, certainly since I've been out and about photting for over a decade now and it's a real shame to see them gone from DB's rosta.
After getting half done for 6E09 about ten minutes earlier, it was touch and go and the peg lifted with a chunk of heavy cloud drifting towards the sun. As the train appeared I still feared the worse but thankfully the light held out. By the time the end of the train had passed the signal the light had gone... Finally some luck!
