Since I have been thinking (and planning) about the group travel photography workshops that I would like to organize in various interesting locations around the region, I’ve been thinking quite a bit about Iran as being one of these locations. It’s such an interesting place with so much to offer from a photography point of view that I’m sure many people would be interested in coming along for a few days. However, Iran is probably one of the more difficult locations to organize as I’m not quite sure how 8-10 people with big cameras in hand would be received there. Although, you never know… A few months ago when I was in Esfahan, I did come across a group of about 6-7 students (all girls), photographing in the souk areas using a variety of big, small, old or new cameras. If any of you knows about photography clubs in Shiraz or Esfahan I would love to know more about it.

While we’re on the Iran subject, I’ve been meaning to post this image for a while now as I really like the way this door is framed by all the traditional Iranian tiles decorated with beautiful calligraphy. I shot this in Esfahan in the Imam Square and a I believe it was one of the entrances to the Sheikh Lotf Allah Mosque which I’ve posted a photo of a while ago.

Composite of three images.

One light setup. A Canon 580EX through octogonal softbox placed towards the right side of the camera for the main picture and for the one inside the bigger frame.

Two lights setup for the picture inside the smallest frame. A Canon 580EX through octogonal softbox placed towards the right side of the camera at 1/8th power and a Neewer flash bounced off of a white board placed towards the left of the camera at full power.

Our Daily Challenge: Natural Framing

My cute little four year old standing in his locker at school. I went up to school today to read to his preschool class and do some playing, it also afforded me the opportunity to take this shot.

The frame of an ex-ATSF SD45 is ready to head to NRE for "rebuilding". At least that's what the note said. I'm guessing just a few parts are needed...

One of the most peaceful places on earth is McCall, Idaho. If you ever get a chance to visit...please do! This shot is taken south of McCall in Roseberry, Idaho. "Roseberry, Idaho is an old Finnish settlement. The Finns settled there in the late 19th century after fleeing the oppressive Russian empire who occupied Finland at the time. It is a source of local pride and a part of Idaho history." Still standing is a whitewashed mercantile, church and school building and stories are told of harsh winters and the demise of this little town. And, if you're looking to photograph barns, the Long Valley is famous for them and information is given at the Roseberry visitor center on the many types of barns constructed in the area.

I began this project to play with framing. This is my first real attempt and thanks to bossbob50 for his help.

Julia's Christmas gift to me. 22 wee frames to hold some of my best photos from 2008.

The busy dried goods market in the Albert Centre, Singapore. Medium format black and white film.

Hey, it worked! Even though other photographers were trying to get me to move along. So there! Now if only we could get the house moved that was between the two wheels on the left so I wouldn't have to practice my cloning skills.

This is part of the fence made from a variety of wheels welded together which is around a field and barn. The barn has been turned into an arts and crafts place. Some beautiful watercolors and artwork were on display inside.

The Wagon Wheel Fence and Barn are located just north of Uniontown, Washington on Hwy 195. www.byways.org/explore/byways/54775/places/62933/

CH®iS has posted a picture of the barn taken this year--http://www.flickr.com/photos/elliottcablefamily/3730975486/ He also has a nice connection to more information about the farm and barn www.artisanbarn.org/Default.asp

"Dahmen Artisan Barn by CH®iS.

Located on the north end of Uniontown, this barn was originally built in 1935 for commercial dairy use. Steve Dahmen later built the locally famous wheel fence, taking over 30 years to do so. It now includes more than 1,000 individual wheels. The barn has even appeared in National Geographic, adding to its notoriety."
