Another from my archives - taken in the garden in 2013 and I believe this was the last time I saw a butterfly!!

I created this using my own brushes and background textures, I also used a brush by greenaleydis_stock@deviantart who has a wonderful collection by the way.
I don't know, I originally began to make a texture, but it just turned into something else along the way...

Today I bring you this little wonder of nature.
It is the white cabbage butterfly (Pieris rapae), a very common species in the area where I live. Although we often see it fluttering around orchards and gardens, its delicacy never ceases to amaze me.
When it is a larva, it feeds mainly on cruciferous plants, hence its name, cabbage being one of its favourites. In this photograph I was able to capture it feeding, sipping the nectar of this flower with its espiritrompa, a kind of natural straw that it uses to reach the bottom of the flowers.

The butterfly (an ogomadara) itself was black and white, and was about the size of the palm of my hand.
St James Park London with the London Eye and even The Shard in the background. A beautiful spring day in May.
