"I am very grateful to God everyday that my eyes flutter open and I can jump out of that bed! " ~Jerry Reed
we were at the zoo today - had a really good time. Since we were early birds, we got to leave just in time to make room for the large crowds of happy and excited visitors.
I was talking to Paul about the 365 challenge I took on (I think I was 'afraid' of sharing, not to find myself falling flat on my face if I don't go through with it ;)
His comment was that even though I like all the things that I work on, I come alive when I take the camera in my hands.
It does feel that way.

This spicebush swallowtail was madly fluttering it's wing and it was nearly impossible to photograph. I think she may have been trying to lay some eggs on the dill. Time will tell.

The chaffinches really liked the Flutter Butter we took up to Scotland for the Crested Tit's on our trip to the Cairngorms last month.
Birds love peanut butter, but the normal stuff that we eat is very bad for your garden birds as it contains too much salt. Flutter Butter is naturally low in salt and especially formulated peanut butter for garden birds.
Apologies for lack of comments from my last posting, had a sudden health scare but back up and catching up now.

Everytime I tried to shoot this poppy the wind would make it dance and play, it's diaphanous petals fluttering in the breeze. I thought I'd failed to get a decent shot, but something about this one appealed..... HMBT!
Just let them carry you away.

Not all of my images are grand landscapes. Many times, when I am out in a national park, I capture shots of things that interest me and about which I want to know more. As a matter of fact, I've even written about this in the National Parks Traveler.
This image of a raven, for instance, captured in Petrified Forest National Park in Arizona, caused me to wonder why it had its mouth open. I learned that since birds don't sweat, they open their mouths to regulate heat flow and cool off - well, as much as any creature can cool off, I guess, on a hot day in a place like Petrified Forest National Park. This thing they do is called "gular (goo-lur) fluttering."
And now you know on this Fun Fact Friday that I'm uploading the image (8-20-2021).

This image was taken in the Queen Charlotte Sound, near Picton on the South Island of New Zealand on 21st April 2017.
Can anyone confirm the bird please, many thanks.
At least four of these were fluttering back and forth in a little cove at Duncan Lake in The Trace within LBL in Kentucky.

A little fledgling House Sparrow perched on a hedge fluttering its wings and calling for its mother to bring food.
Grasshopper Sparrows have a distinct flight and often flutter on landing. They hold their little tails down as well. Flight styles of sparrows are quite distinct.
A very common, small dragonfly around the Brisbane area. This one was a little damaged and not easy to catch with the bulky 100-400 lens. It is also known as the Banded Flutterer and Small Pond Dragonfly.
