this place is trouble waiting

the light hangs so weakly on to the quiet

drag myself in a long line

in a long line

in a lonely line

and i jealously want the ocean's deep nerve

i am a red flame hanging low to be close to it

hanging low to be close to you

from Songs: Ohia's "The Ocean's Nerves", lyrics Jason Molina

Always a great moment when the hummingbirds get close enough to hear the magical flutter of their little wings. This male Broad-billed Hummingbird provided such a moment.

Smile on Saturday: photo collage

The robin has returned since we put out sunflower hearts instead of wild bird seed. I think it's just one robin as he follows the same routine when he visits: alight on the fence, hop along to the nearest fence post and then flutter to the feeder.

He could have taught all his mates the same way of course........

The leaves are turning and falling and the only other colour is given by a few remaining flowers and Ray's winter pots.

Thank you so much for visits: a better impression viewed large.

Marking the official end of summer today with a monarch photo from Tower Hill Botanic garden, where I went last weekend. End of summer is always going to be a little bit sad. But autumn in New England is pretty special!

Have a great day everyone!

Nervous Northern Pearly-Eye butterfly ready to launch.

This lady sprang up all alone next to the fence on our patio - they can be quite invasive but this one made a statement that my wife pointed me to. Pretty little gem with eyelashes, all on her own and first one up. The 20mm gravel she grew through made for nice bokeh.

I was out back taking pics of the pretty Lantana flowers when this guy came by. :-) He's a Hummingbird Clearwing Moth. He only stayed a few minutes (less than 3 min) but I still vividly remember him. What a beauty.

We are like butterflies who flutter for a day and think it is forever.

We'll talk of sunshine and of song

And summer days when we were young

Sweet childish days that were as long

As twenty days are now

Fantasy Faire 2020 Revisited

A fresh look at old snaps from the Faire

Brown Shrikes are migratory birds and sighted in winters across the country. I suppose they migrate from Northern Asia / China. They are not common as compared to their other cousins, the Long Tailed Shrike and the Bay Backed Shrike which are seen lot more. This year, we have seen several Brown Shrikes during the summer too much to my surprise.

This kind of surveying from a tall perch is a typical behavior demonstrated by Shrikes. This bird family prefers to perch on dry branches around 2-3 meters high and survey the nearby area, often within 10 meters for any insects or small larvae etc... Once it identifies the prey, it quickly dives, catches and gets back to the perch. On this occasion, this juvenile was excited, fluttered its wings several times, but think it lost sight, so it didn't make the jump.

Thank you so much for your views, favorites and feedback. Much appreciated!

Western White Butterfly (I think?), on the Snow Lake Trail, Washington

I saw quite a few of these lovely butterflies flitting around on the flowers below a talus slope as I was hiking down from Snow Lake. Fortunately they seemed content to ignore me while I got my camera out and tried to get in a good spot to take a photo. There was also a smaller bright orange one but it did not seem to want to be photographed as it moved every time I pointed the camera in its direction!

And I am not at all a butterfly expert, so please feel free to correct me if I have misidentified the species!

Rhyothemis variegata, known as the Common Picture Wing or Variegated Flutterer, is a species of dragonfly of the family Libellulidae, found in South Asia. They appear to have weak flight and can easily be mistaken for butterflies.

Many thanks to all those who view, comment and or fave my photos....It is greatly appreciated ......Chandana

ok...so there is this new flickr, unfortunately it has totally screwed up the way I keep in contact with people and how I comment on your photos, it has added much more time and I am afraid I will be miss seeing so much. And that isn't even going into DOUBLING the price for less services ... Hopefully our community will not be lost and flickr will listen.

What can be the reason behind flower favourites? (They fit your photographic style? Childhood memories? Fragrance? Perfect material in which to project your self?) These remain a favourite for me, Spring or Fall.

happy fence friday and have a magnificent weekend!

I almost ignored this shot as although a wonderful misty morning there was enough breeze to move the leaves about causing some blur, but I'm just being picky now lol!

Shades of colour, life's a flutter

Life's a flutter, life's a flutter

Flutter of shapes changing frames

Life's a flutter, life's a flutter

No more darkness in my belly

Life's a flutter, life's a flutter

No more darkness, feeling hazy

Getting better .... life's a flutter
