Rhyothemis graphiptera, known as the graphic flutterer or banded flutterer

This is one of those crazy butterflies that flutters ALL the time! The entire time we were at the butterfly center I never saw this butterfly land on a flower and sit still to sip the nectar. It actually sipped while fluttering!

You wouldn't believe the number of shots taken just trying to get a clear view of those wings. This was the best I managed. Not 100% sure, but am guessing this is a female Great Mormon butterfly.

Seen at the Cecil B Day Butterfly Center, at Callaway Gardens. The center used to provide visual lists of the butterflies on display, but that was years ago. Fortunately, I took photos of them to try and ID the butterflies once I got home.

My husband and I went for a hike yesterday. We came across a small roost of Monarch butterflies!!! It was amazing to watch them as it was fairly windy and yet they navigated the wind and rode the currents beautifully. On our way back to our house there were a lot of them feasting on the wild flowers that grow along the road!

sitting in the shade of an arbor at Heather Farms gardens I was briefly visited by this Gulf Fritillary 'flutterby' before it fluttered off!

Kuranda has several attractions for tourists; I was most impressed with the Australian Butterfly Sanctuary: an extraordinary diversity of these pretty creatures, and plenty of them, often quite inclined to land unexpectedly on a hat or even a resting hand. The best I've been to!

The final photos from my trip. I will then be only 3 months behind BUT my last trip had enough photos to last many months!

I saw several of these at this location but this was my first photo at the small pond. I love the species and the photo so make no apologies for uploading another photo of one. A final reminder of the trip.

Watch them flutter along the keys.

Like spiders weaving webs,

Her fingers weave a melody

That twirls in the air,

Encompassing you in an ephemeral beauty.

A good head and a good heart are always a formidable combination.

Yes, this year in our large kitchen, the theme is ALL HEARTS... lol.

In many countries, it is quite traditional to have handmade and woven decorations in white and red, silver and gold...

I have shoots where they give me things to photograph and never want it back, that means I can do my free photography when I have time, and after that, it goes to the charity shop.

Sprinkle a bit of festive angle-dust around you, you'll feel great!

And don't ever let the child in you die!

I wish you all the very best, and thank you for all your kind words, time, comments and faves. Very much appreciated. M, (*_*)

The bird fluttered and flitted around Briar's head for some time before it settled down in the nest of her hair <3

An ICM shot of the reeds this morning :)........ (1/5th of a second on a very windy morning and altered temp in camera raw)

I went out shooting today just after lunch, and knew the light would be harsh as there was not a cloud in the sky and it was hot. I wasn't expecting to get any great shots, but I did get a couple that I was happy with.

I noticed that many of the crows were resting with their mouth open, so when I got home I did some googling and my hunch was correct, they were trying to cool down.

Birds can not sweat. The behaviour is called Gular Fluttering, which is a rapid vibration of the upper throat and thin floor of the mouth, which moves a lot of air quickly causing evaporative cooling.

I found this guy in a ditch, so I was able to shoot from car at close distance. All of my long distance shots of 30 feet or more were soft. Anything really long distances were wavy and looking like I was shooting through a cheap drinking glass. So I learned a few things today about high temperatures.

July has arrived so time for the obligatory swallowtail butterfly photograph. Bit of a challenge today there was a slight breeze moving the plant about and my assistant Hank decide to try and catch the subject every time it landed. Still in the end we were successful.

Glad to finally see a few butterflies in the lantana along the dam at the park. Very harsh light but kind of liked the flutter motion on this Monarch even though not the best quality. :)

Whenever you see a butterfly,

think of me.

and I'll be right there with you,

if you think of us.

Close your eyes and see me there,

please know that you'll be,

forever in my heart.

Remember this butterfly

in honor of me,

know that I'm with you and

will always be.

It's been a wet and dreary week with the sun only peeking out for short periods of time. Butterfly backlit by sun near sundown.
