Days are short now in the southern hemisphere and I have a loong ways to go so taking advantage of Easter Island's night operations capabilities to head out before the sunrise since I can't make a night approach into my destination
Not the same Optica used in the US - they will be liveried by region. Also an updated model - with my own furry companion!
Now time to hunker down and ride out a massive snow storm approaching the NE coast before continuing on my way. I expect the Cape to thaw out before the mainland...
A new aircraft - the Diamond DA62, which I will be using to explore the Nordics (minus Iceland) and western Europe. Sitting on the tarmac at Vaasa, Finland
Back up above the low cloud layer and sun again attempts to make a peek through the thicker upper layer. OMG can't get enough of water glint
Trying to spot traffic showing on my map out of Lynden Municipal Airport but don't see anything. Beyond lost in the haze is Vancouver
Finally at my destination, after swinging back around north making a close (way too close) pass of the Wallops Launch Facility that sends rockets up to the ISS and also in 2021 smallsat payloads on Electron rockets
Ready for departure - skies look threatening out towards Tokyo - will have to see how conditions are when I get out there
Entering NYC Special Flight Rules Area by crossing over the Verrazano-Narrows bridge and staying below the Bravo airspace along the east side of the Hudson
But wait, the river isn't supposed to bend like this on the chart? I couldn't orient myself properly looking at the chart to get this to work in my head, but I was a bit south of my intended track, which was why
Picked up a decent amount of windshield icing just from a brief exposure through the clouds before descending. Even a teeny bit on the wings too
Slowing my climb as I near cruise altitude to ensure the pressurization can keep up since I'm heading west and can cruise 1000 feet higher
Trying to see the not insignificant mountains of northern Madagascar on the horizon but too many clouds
Passing Bear Mountain just to the left of the photo, a destination I have visited many times in my car and on my motorcycle
Light showers out to the north and east means cloud coverage is increasing as I head towards the shore
Finally figure the best way is to just tell the AP to make direct for the waypoint ahead of the one I want to cut. It's also a newly-inserted waypoint that will take me near Bolivia's highest mountain - which I looked up and found to be along the way. It's also a more direct route to Titicaca to shave some distance off my trip
Spotting the Asari Dam at Otarunai Lake as well as the Asari Sky Loop circling traffic down from the damn to the valley floor. Lifts are visible for what appears to be a ski slope but actually the majority of it over my left wing is a golf course!
Cruising at 4,500' looking out over the coastal half of Izumo, with the Kando River emptying into the Sea of Japan and the Hii River wending past the Kitayama mountains
Just taking it nice and easy on the way up to really appreciate the terrain below me of the southern end to the Hida Mountains
