Occupy Flash - occupyflash.org

It feels great not having Flash any more. I've been toying with removing it for a long time. I didn't need much of an excuse really.

"Flash Player is dead. Its time has passed. It's buggy. It crashes a lot. It requires constant security updates. It doesn't work on most mobile devices. It's a fossil, left over from the era of closed standards and unilateral corporate control of web technology. Websites that rely on Flash present a completely inconsistent (and often unusable) experience for fast-growing percentage of the users who don't use a desktop browser. It introduces some scary security and privacy issues by way of Flash cookies. Flash makes the web less accessible. At this point, it's holding back the web."

the wind had driven a flurry of snow against the bedroom window in the night, it froze creating a pattern....this is taken from inside, I forgot to take the flash off but I like the result!

Just testing out my new flash.

Moving the flash almost directly above the subject really changes (in my mind improves) the shadows. Still a lot of light on the background, though.

This quilt was made with Artisan Cottons by Windham Fabrics. She is about 40.5" square after washing. The Artisan Cottons are shot cottons, with a weight similar to quilting cotton.

A flash flood is a rapid flooding of low-lying areas, rivers and streams, that is caused by the intense rainfall associated with a thunderstorm, or multiple training thunderstorms. Flash floods can also occur when ice jams block the normal course of a river, or when a man-made structure, such as a dam, collapses, i.e.; the Johnstown Flood of 1889. Flash flooding occurs when the ground becomes saturated with water that fell so quickly that it could not be absorbed. The runoff collects in low-lying areas and rapidly flows downhill with sudden rising water. Flash floods most often occur in normally dry areas that have recently received precipitation, but may also be seen anywhere downstream from the source of the precipitation (even dozens of miles from the source).

The U.S. National Weather Service gives the advice "Turn Around, Don't Drown" in reference to flash floods; that is, it recommends that people get out of the area of a flash flood, rather than trying to cross it. Most people tend to underestimate the dangers of flash floods.

Flash floods are extremely dangerous because of their sudden nature. Being in a vehicle provides little to no protection against being swept away; it may make people overconfident and less likely to avoid the flash flood. More than half of the fatalities attributed to flash floods, are people swept away in vehicles when trying to cross flooded intersections . As little as 6 inches of water can be enough to carry away most SUV-sized vehicles. In the United States, the National Weather Service (part of NOAA) reported in 2005 that in a national 30-year average more people die yearly in floods (127 on average) than by lightning (73), tornadoes (65), or hurricanes (16).

The desert southwestern U.S. is especially dangerous for both hikers and vehicles from the sudden onslaught of water from isolated thunderstorms over nearby mountains or mesas. These rains fill poorly-absorbent and often claylike dry riverbeds. A moving flood will usually be headed by a debris pile that may have wood branches and/or logs. Deep slot canyons can be especially dangerous to hikers as they may be flooded by a storm that occurs on a mesa miles away, sweeping through the canyon, making it dificult to climb up and out of the way to avoid the flood. Valley roads frequently cross dry river and creek beds without bridges. From the driver's perspective, there may be clear weather, when unexpectantly a river forms ahead of or around the vehicle in a matter of seconds.

New cameraphone has flash.

Macro Flash test shots - Some stacked.

This is Flash. I hung out with him on Pepper Mouser's art car on burn night at the 2006 Burning Man Festival. We had a great conversation and countless deep belly laughs while taking a grand tour of Black Rock city on a giant mobile bar/lounge/living room. Flash is a pretty cool cat and after chatting with me for awhile he proclaimed to everyone on the art car that I "was a good kid" so that made me feel nice.

Flash's story is pretty interesting and he has some great stories to tell about the Burning Man festivals history and the personalities behind it. I hope I run into him again sometime.

For people who live where I live, this homeless man is known as the former "helmet man."

Today, after a couple of shoots for my senior project, I saw him outside the donut shop, and John and I went to talk to him and ask him if I could take photos for my project.

The only words I could understand were "photos" "true grit" and "billy the kid."

His speech was quick, jumbled, and completely incomprehensible. But he had a lot to say. He showed us a bunch of newspaper clippings, books, and two movies in particular: Shanghai Express and Flash Gordon. When I asked him his name, he just pointed to Shanghai Express.

While I was taking photographs, many people yelled out their windows to us. It was a strange experience. To listen to someone who was the personification of a ruined history book, and to hear the shouts of people that had nothing to do with the situation.

Strangers amaze me.

I have been challenged when using an external flash on manual. Today I got a lesson from my friend Lou Ann and It is really helping. The hubster is so sweet to be my model.

I've often wondered what happens someone elses flash gun goes off while you're taking a photo.

Well here's the answer. The young lady is dancing to the Edgar Macías Quintet at Bearwood Corks club.

The guy on the other side of the room got quite a good shot as well.

All the mist caught the flash going off. Thought it was a funny accident.

#flash #ecafoto17
