This series of photos shows my method for precisely fitting a piece of copper to the irregular gap at the boiler bottom. These pieces are silver soldered to form the mudring.
A 1/8" thick piece of copper has been sawn slightly oversize, and one side has been coated with blue layout fluid. Now we are temporarily gluing it with hot melt glue so we can mark the outside edge. The piece butts up against the inner firebox shell ends, and lays over the outside backhead.

After seven different renfrews, I finally figured out how to make the one that fit me the best in terms of comfort. I was having issue with tightness around the upper arms. I also learned how to apply a neckband correctly using a video online - it makes a huge difference in getting rid of the draglines I had at first. I am happy to finally have made a comfortable renfrew that I plan on making over and over. I had a lot of help from the patternreview.com forums and I recommend looking for advice there if you are also having problems with fitting something.

It is going slowly, but progress is steady. Sheer strake on this side next. The other side still needs two more.
Greenville PD's Police Athletic League (PAL) Program, Boy Scouts East Carolina Council, Safe Kids Pitt County, and Vidant Health hosted a bicycle rodeo on Saturday, September 12. The rodeo provided helmet fitting, bicycle safety checks and adjustments, hand signal basics, and an obstacle course to help young riders put their skills to the test!
This was taken during a still life work shop at The Traverse Area Camera Club. This shot was taken with a light box and 2 Polarizing filters to get the rainbow effect. One Filter is a Gelfilter that was about 18" X 20" and laid over the light box. There was some touch up in PS to make the light in the background white.
