I said in an earlier photo that the bow stem shaping wasn't quite all done. It's at this point that you can see what fine tuning has to be done to make it mate up with the bottom.

The wooden shield board is long gone, but the iron shield boss, which would have protected the hand holding the shield grip on the back, and the decorative fittings in form of silver studs are still preserved. The appearance of the shield was further enhanced through two animal plaques. One of them depicted a bird of prey, the other a fishlike creature seen from above. Such animal fittings are rare and were perhaps meant to provide spiritual protection in addition to decorative effect.

With weld-on fittings tack welded in place I screwed a pipe nipple into each one to verify that they were pointing straight up before I finished welding them in place. A couple of 'em were a little bit off but a few whacks of a medium size hammer on the side of the pipe nipple set them to rights.

The night we arrived...Pete and little G nestling right up to the fabulous Miss D.lish. This was the first time Pete and Denise had met in person, but they've been friends for a long while.
When I first found out they hadn't known each other from childhood, I was so surprised, because they behave as longtime friends do. It's awesome. :-)
Had to sand the hole a bit, but seems to fit nicely. Thankfully I printed a few extras before it broke. Also finally had an excuse to add that nut under the ptfe barrier.
A few minutes after I started it up, the retainer started to deform. Looks like PLA can't handle the heat.
