test fitting the components on the new sub. most people here wouldn't know it, but one of my other hobbies is DIY audio, for both home and car.
12" 4 ohm dayton quatro
2.5" x 6" flared port (tuned to approx. 28 Hz)
450W remote controlled plate amp (remote sensor and gain/crossover knobs are on a separate panel on the side of the box)
all parts are from partsexpress.com. they're an amazingly great resource for any kind of DIY electronics parts / tools. their house brand of speakers and cabling, dayton, is usually higher quality than brand name stuff, and with a lower price. they also run a very informative forum for people who are into this kind of stuff.
after this box is sanded, it's going to be covered with black ash vinyl laminate, and set on a patio stone that's also covered with laminate. patio stones make great speaker stands. they're cheap, they're heavy, they don't vibrate and they don't get knocked over.
the box is a somewhat unusual shape for a subwoofer. most sub designs for home theater are cube shaped but this is tall and narrow, more like a main speaker. i'll explain my rationale for this design in the next couple of pics. the box itself is just about 2 ft^3, and measures 17" x 10.5" x 28".
I'm not a religious person by any stretch, but this one just seems to go along with the sentiment in my house today.

BCC 498 was refurbished, but not to the same degree as the 21 refurbs. This refurbishment was due to being selected by staff for fitting by the University of Queensland with an early computer to control braking and acceleration through the use of a kinetic energy flywheel. It was fitted with high-backed, cord-wool seating and repainted. When it returned to service, the flywheel worked brilliantly, but the bus was notorious for having squealing brakes. It could often be found on the Spring Hill route 23 where its squealing brakes could be heard to full effect. It is shown in the hands of the Queensland Omnibus & Coach Society at Cleveland Showgrounds on 24 September 2005 with historic vehicle plate S.13278.

Track laying at the Leighton Buzzard Narrow Gauge Railway to re-instate the section of line between Stonehenge Works and Mundays Hill. When the line was in commercial use part of the section was double track and the opportunity has been taken to extend that distance. The regular, volunteer track gang are being assisted by a team from Transport For London. These people have been recruited and trained to maintain the Elizabeth Line (formerly Crossrail) but as yet trains are not running.
Fitting architectural detail serving as a welcome mat in the charming rustic cottages where we stayed, near the ancient site of Zippori and its fabulous mosaics. The cottages were hand-built by proprietors Mitch and Suzy Pilcer in the 90's. There was a beautiful Corinthian capital on display out front. "Oh, we found that when we were digging the foundations. You can't dig anywhere around here without hitting something." They turned the project into a do-it-yourself formal archaeological dig, carefully excavating and documenting everything.
