Sorry for the awful lighting... basement bedroom during Canadian winter lol... This is my amazing snuggle quilt from Teri (craktpot) that she made for me for my birthday! It keeps me warm when I am on the computer or sewing :)
Two names being floated as possible additions to President Obama’s cabinet are causing heartburn for Israeli leaders, who are already concerned about their relationship with the Obama administration.
Obama is expected to nominate Massachusetts senator and former presidential candidate John Kerry to take over as secretary of state and former Nebraska senator Chuck Hagel to fill the role as secretary of defense. The choices point to a policy direction less sympathetic toward Israeli concerns and, in Hagel’s case, more of a willingness to live with a nuclear Iran.
From Israel’s point of view, there is less concern with Kerry as compared to Hagel, because the Massachusetts senator has a clean voting record on matters pertaining to Israel. Still, some are anxious over his possible appointment because he is viewed as being part of the Democratic party’s center-left wing, a group not exactly perceived as pro-Israel in their views.
The bigger problem, from the Israeli perspective, is Hagel, who has what the Jerusalem Post dubbed “a problematic voting record on Israel.” That record includes a 2001 vote against renewing the Iran-Libya sanctions act and a 2007 vote against putting the Iran Revolutionary Guards Corps on the U.S. list of terrorist organizations. Hagel, a Republican, also voted against slapping sanctions on Iran in 2008.
Hagel is also closely aligned with Stephen Walt, co-author of a book that bashes Israel, The Israel Lobby and U.S. Foreign Policy. In a blog posting last week of the top five reasons Obama should choose Hagel, Walt wrote, “Unlike almost all of his former colleagues on Capitol Hill, he [Hagel] hasn’t been a complete doormat for the Israel lobby. In the summer of 2006, for example, he incurred the lobby’s wrath by calling for a joint cease-fire during Israel’s war with Hezbollah.” Walt also applauded Hagel for being “outspoken” in his call for the U.S. to be “more evenhanded in its handling of the peace process.”
Finally, Hagel’s views on a nuclear Iran are dismaying for Israeli leaders looking to evaluate the man who could be the next U.S. defense secretary. In his 2008 book “America: Our Next Chapter,” Hagel warned against isolating Iran over the Islamic Republic’s nuclear program and floats the idea of the world having to live with a nuclear Iran.
God ultimately rules over the decisions made by men of power (Daniel 5), He often lets mankind reap the consequences of poor decisions or relationships. If President Obama is serious about improving and strengthening the relationship between the United States and Israel, he will take a hard second look at what Chuck Hagel and John Kerry bring to the table in regards to Israel and the Middle East. Pray for the president as he makes his choices to fill the critic positions of secretary of state and defense secretary, particularly as they relate to Israel and the ominous threat from a possible nuclear Iran.

a male Magnolia Warbler
I am working as a volunteer with the Toronto Birding Observatory a non profit organization that bands birds to help study migration patterns and the health of the general bird population.
I took a week off earlier to help because this is warbler season. We didn't catch a single warbler during my week off.....heard and saw them all around us but none in the net. Yesterday I was at the nets for eight hours and all we caught was a pair of white throated sparrows.
Today two hours in very near freezing and we caught this fellow, (we cheered :-) a pair of American Redstarts, an Ovenbird, a nuthatch and a chickadee.

We've heard him for some time but never been able to spot him before. Lynda, out of the corner of her eye, saw a large bird fly into the woods behind the house, we searched and I happened to look up though a small hole in the foliage to see his perch quite a way away.. It was near dusk and the ISO was quite high and handheld so I couldn't remove all the noise...but, there he is!
I am using my vintage 1980's PVC pipe quilt frame to hand quilt my queen size Double Wedding Ring quilt.
Not exciting for others but this is the first grab I've ever gotten with the Clyman coal tower in it.

After being held up in customs for nearly 2 months our shelves were replenished with Westminster Fibers Fabrics. This shipment was a true adventure. Nach fast 2 Monaten kam unsere Stofflieferung von Westminster Fibers endlich aus dem Zoll. Der Jubel war groß und die Tortur nun beendet. Finally getting to post my sketch from last Sunday's sketchcrawl. I've been wanting to get to the Market to sketch for awhile and was happy to join fellow sketchers at this months outing. I had a great spot right in the heart of the Market and it was a fun place to spend a couple of hours. I talked a lot of people who strolled by...several tourists who asked to take a picture of me, a couple of nice guys with teardrop tattoos who had just come to Seattle from the Midwest who said they had gotten out of prison there and were making a fresh start, a couple who wanted to know why there were so many sketchers at the Market, and then Frank Ching stopped by to sketch and chat for awhile before meeting up with the huge group of sketchers out this month. I think I will have to try this spot again soon...
Finally got my guitar out and played for a while. Funny that no matter how much time slips by I can still seem to pick up where I left off (more or less). I may be rusty but my brain and my fingers seem to remember where things go...

After hours of delays, we're finally taking off! We missed our connecting flight in Chicago, but managed to get a flight out to Newark (which wasn't ideal, but at least we got home).
It took a while but I finally stung her up tonight. all the orig electronics put back, sans a new peizo under the saddle.
New rosewood bridge, paint and a ton of elbow grease. I definitely learned a lot on this project. and got really good at binding scraping. (thanks Sully for the video)

During our self-guided walking tour of Ketchikan, Alaska, Mike and I strolled through the city's historic Creek Street. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places as a designated historic district, Creek Street is located along the eastern shore of Ketchikan Creek adjacent to the downtown area. It features a boardwalk and buildings built over the water on wooden pilings, and it gained notoriety as Ketchikan's ''red-light district'' circa 1903-1954.
This shot faces northward along Creek Street, from a vantage point near the southern end of the street (where it meets Stedman Street), looking upstream past the many colorful wooden buildings. The green building at the right was formerly a brothel run by a Ketchikan ''sporting woman'' known as Dolly Arthur. Today, Dolly's House (24 Creek St.) is a museum that contains many of Dolly's own furnishings and artifacts.

● This house was the home of Dolly Arthur, Ketchikan's most famous ''sporting woman.'' From 1919 through the 1940s, it was also her place of business.
● Dolly, whose given name was Thelma Copeland, had already practiced her trade in Vancouver, Juneau, Petersburg and at the other end of Creek Street when she finally settled here at #24. She lived in the house until 1973, when ill health and failing eyesight required her to move into a nursing home.
● Looking back on her career shortly before her death at age eighty-eight, she said:
''I guess men thought I was fun and attractive, because I always seemed to have more friends than the other girls on Creek Street. I could never get along with other girls, you know--but I never had any trouble getting along with men.''
I finished this little sweater a long time ago. I think the calendar may still have read "2007." And then it sat and waited, and waited for buttons. Which I finally added this week, using EZ's "afterthought buttonhole" method, with not entirely satisfactory results. But you can't see how ugly the buttonholes are when it's buttoned up! It's a short cropped sweater, the very bottom is at the bottom of the picture. The idea was to make a fitted, cropped, long-sleeve version of a the green one I did last year.
