Finally blue skies. Isle Lake Alberta

Dave finally finished his bowl made out of rocks. Petoskey stones and many other assortment of rocks. Seen a Youtube how to do this and it worked. I filled with fruit and sure looks nice on the table on the front porch.

Finally, I can exhibit pictures, books, jewelry and ceramics. You will find a long life in our new gallery which we call Bergtatt.

We are open at Easter from kl. 12 to 15. You can combine it with a visit to Bronseplassen.

The deer haven't eaten these blossoms yet .... we're crossing our fingers.

I've been chasing thunderstorms all summer with no luck in Finland but turns out patience is a virtue and it paid off. Captured in Hailuoto, Finland.

UP Metra M7901-07 returns to California Avenue after taking local civic dignitaries to Crystal Lake IL for a Metra Project unveiling at Elgin IL. The timing of their trip on a sunny fall day wasn't the best for light but once they were done everyone knew the few miles between Oglivie and the coach yard would be ideal at mid-afternoon. Here they pass beneath the old "Met EL" bridge at Wood Street. Special thanks to all our birdies for making it great.

Arguably the best looking SD40 the R&N owns leads the NRFF north by the 102 signals. After being stuck working locals for awhile in West Cressona the 3051 was sent south late last week to work the North Reading fast freights.

... Yup ... April Fools' Day

Mrs. Krach took my photo this morning for me in the 'matching light' ... and our schnoodle had to get into the portrait as well ... hence he joined my here with the grizzly cup that I captured while in Yellowstone this past summer.

We have been enjoying some very welcome sunshine, though no real warmth as yet since the winds have mostly been off the sea. Yesterday, whilst much of the UK was enjoying 18-20C, it was 10C here! But we did have more hours of sunshine than anyone else!

However the sun has been bringing the hedgerows and blossom trees to life.

... a few minutes after my last upload was taken (in first comment), there happend a tough, nosiy fight under a overhanging tree on the riverbank.

It went on for about 2 minutes with a lot of splashing and roaring, but it was impossible to see anything of this action because of the dense tree.

After that, there was a moment of silence and then we saw the successful hunter dragging a caiman out of the water,

finally disappearing with his hard earned breakfast in the adjoining forest.

Part 30 and last part of a series of pictures of the hard job of a Jaguar, trying to get his breakfast ...

If you want to see the previous pictures of that little story in chronological order, have a look at my Jaguar Morning-Album.

Thanks for your interest and I hope you could feel some of the thrill we experienced while watching this fantastic jaguar for such a long time.

Have a good start to the weekend!

Finally, got it at last! A tough one to shoot and I was literally chasing this butterfly for quite a while now. A Colorful one, now its the season for them as the flowers are starting to bloom all around. Expect to see more of them!

Thanks in advance for your views and feedback. Much appreciated.

The non-existing bokeh in my last photos of the leaf bothered me the whole time... now I´m satisfied ;)

Wishing all of you a happy third Advent and a wonderful new week :)

Located in the Urubamba Valley, aka the Sacred Valley, most archeologists now believe that Machu Picchu was the private estate of the 9th Inca emperor Pachacuti or Pachacútec. Once the Inca emerged from their ancestral lands around the border area of modern Peru and Bolivia, and began to conquer vast tracts of land, they established their capital at the site of modern day Cusco, Peru around 1420. Just like all roads led to Rome in the Roman Empire, thousand of miles of roads and trails led to Cusco in the Inca Empire. Neither Machu Picchu nor Cusco were ever completed due to the Spanish conquest that began with a military campaign by Francisco Pizarro in 1532. It took 40 years to finally vanquish the Inca. Pizarro was only successful due to a civil war caused by the sons of Pachacútec. He was able to recruit the emperor's rival brother to his side. Machu Picchu was used as a stronghold by the Inca for many years but was eventually abandoned. Terraces below the main level were used to grow food especially maize which was used to make a fermented drink used in festivities and rituals. (There's little doubt that the beverage was called 'Hazy Maizy.")

A few eye distractions from the forest and the river. In the spring it's wildflowers, in the fall it's mushrooms (which are actually flowers of mycelia)

Pods showed up a week ago at the turtle pond. One blossomed two days ago and the rest following today.

I've been working on these for months now, having trouble finding supplies to finish them. Considering each one sports 6 buttons, two buckles and around 40cm of leather trim, making ten was quite a task.

The two on the middle will have special matching items and go as a set. The rest will come with a ruffle blouse as previous editions.

I've finally made it to Grey Refuge, my last stop in this park! I'll be here for two nights. There are tons of adventures to be had around here. Today, my fourth day, I hiked a total of 13.5 miles (21.82 km) on two different trails. I still have two more days of hiking ahead. So, what am I going to do now that I'm here? The highest temperature today was 42.8 degrees Fahrenheit (6 degrees Celsius) and the lowest was 32 degrees Fahrenheit (0 degrees Celsius). First, a hot shower! Then, I'm going to unpack everything and hang up all my clothes. With my 50-liter (13.20-gallon) backpack now empty, I can head to the bar for a few pisco sours and catch up with the other hikers. After dinner, I'll warm up by the fireplace with a glass of cognac. And then, it's off to bed. The glacier and Grey Lake are only 2,362 feet (720 meters) away. I can hear the ice walls crashing into the lake. It's part of the Southern Patagonian Ice Field, the second largest extra-polar ice cap in the world. It's 17.4 miles (28 km) long and covers an area of over 105 square miles (270 square kilometers). It starts on the western side of the Patagonian Andes and ends at the shores of Grey Lake. On average, it's 98 feet (30 meters) high and about 3.7 miles (6 kilometers) wide.

Hiking summary:

Day 1: 18.6 miles (30 km).

Day 2: 10.6 miles (17 km).

Day 3: 14.3 miles (23 km).

Day 4: 13.7 miles (22 km).

Total for the first four days: 57.2 miles (92 km).

After what seems like an eternity of constant drab grey overcast days, finally some colour.

We decided to take a few days and try to locate a few Whio (Blue Ducks). Whio are only in New Zealand and are one of our most endangered birds. There are only about 650 pairs left on the North Island and more males than females. They live on fast moving rivers and are found in many enviroments that other duck breeds don't survive.

... finally reaches the woods :)

I have seen a number of nymphs this season but today I spotted the first adult of the season.

I will put images of nymphs in two different instar stages in the first comment box.

I finally get to post something that is not in flat light. Having spent most of my recent photography hours at the coast, I've been on a streak of only finding a subject in the shade or overcast, or pre sunrise and post sunset. This Solano County juvenile Red Shouldered hawk in golden hour light finally broke that streak.

Finally got round to tidying all of my photography folders dating back to November last year. Whilst I don't like to revisit older shots I found myself dwelling on the Ayanna Witter-Johnson gig captures from last year.

It was a superb night despite just about every single photography condition being against me. Luckily the lady herself was mesmorising so it inspired me to get on with the job and focus on the things in my control. The result was a crazy amount of expressive live moments. Even the high ISO worked well.

A companion shot to one I've already posted the venue was basically purple as was Ayanna's jump suit. I've tried to keep the spirit of this reducing the saturation and playing with the colour swatch.

As always thank you for any comments and faves they are gratefully received.

“I’ve finally given in, my eyes are shut under the blindfold. I can hear and smell, but I cannot see. My hands are clammy I feel cold yet I am warm. It is what I wanted, but I am now unsure, dubious yet at the same time excited and curious. I would like to think I feel a bit like Alice just before she fell down the hole into the rabbit hole. Yet there are no rabbits here… not even those of the rampant persuasion.”
