Spotted some lovely colors in the sky from on a partly cloudy evening.

Ahh, what a way to end my time at Hallo Bay! I took this shot at the very end of our third day in Katmai National Park. It was 8:40 pm and we had not actually planned to stay out this late during our afternoon adventure, but when we came out onto the beach to be picked up we discovered that it was full of bears (if I remember correctly there were at least 9 of them). We cancelled the pick-up and plunked ourselves on the beach for awhile. We knew we weren't going to be back at Hallo Bay the next day, so I savoured every last moment on this wonderful beach with these magical bears.
As we headed across the sand flats to meet the skiff, I was trailing at the back of the line, as usual. I couldn't help but continue to look back at these precious creatures as we left them. We passed by some bears that weren't too far from us and this guy was passing by at the same time. I could see that there was the potential for a reflection and quickly pulled the lens cap off my camera. The group was moving quickly, so I didn't have much time to fire off my shots.
Getting a reflection shot was on the list of things I had hoped for when I went to Katmai. I was pretty tickled as I raced off to catch up with the group to head to the boat for dinner. I was very pleasantly surprised that this photo turned out as well as it did. It was a handheld shot taken late in the evening, with very overcast weather.

It's not often you get to see these birds up close, so I was happy to see this flock Saturday morning!
A late afternoon/early evening departure from Soo yard LO-34 was a fine chase during the longer daylight months of the year. Here's 4151 and 6534 getting 57 cars on the roll at Trout Lake on May 28, 1994.
Pausing my Faroe Islands images until I've had my films developed. Hope to be back mid August with some more from the islands. Meanwhile I'm looking for some nice morning/evening light in my vicinity. This is from last evening.
Once I was walking on the Drumadoon beach on Isle of Arran and came across this scene. I don't think there could be more favorable conditions for creating a photo.
One evening, maybe a week after J first had symptoms, there was a power outage. J and Lol both saved everything they'd been working on; he picked up a guitar and started playing, she came downstairs and joined us. A&G played cards for a while, then one of them suggested reading aloud. They got out the copy of Ronan Farrow's "Catch and Kill" and the three kids passed it around, taking turns to read a chapter; and as it got darker we found flashlights and lit candles, and Lol said it was like a scene from Jane Austen. They kept reading even after the power came back on. A few days later they decided to have another "reading Farrow" evening. So we opened some wine and felt fury at the patriarchy. I think Ms Austen would have understood.
