Evening grosbeaks are a very unusual species in my neck of the world. I spotted a flock of 51 going after juniper berries.
No 7802 'Badley Manor' departs Bewdley for Kidderminster with the last scheduled passenger service of the day.
An image from a perfect evening at Longshaw Estate last week, with a great cloudscape and golden light across the landscape. The Beech trees to the right of the scene seemed an even more intense colour they appear here. I liked the way the path, the fence and the Ha-Ha lead the eye to the trees.
It was lovely to get a rare night out in my old haunt. I really enjoyed distant views of barn and long eared owls, sadly on this occasion no pics.
The curlew is a bird which is highly skilled in avoiding yours truly.
So it was a nice surprise to get a very close encounter.
Numbers of this stunning bird are sadly on the decline, so it was nice to see them doing well locally.

The first Evening Grosbeak I have photographed in my yard, Yakima County Washington. This is a beautiful male. The buds on the flowering crabapple leave an interesting pattern of shadows on this birds back. IMG_4806
This is the River Thames at Erith, Kent 20 minute walk from where we live, taken in the late evening with the tide out, I could not believe that sky almost forgot to take photos! taken on fujichrome slide film and scanned in!
Once again a stormy evening sky got really dramatic, this time as I was walking down to the point (northern tip) on the central Bamberg island in Erba Park where the canal and the river come together. I had my Lumix mFT camera along, and it did a good job of catching the drama. It was a little after 6 p.m., about 20 minutes before sunset. In post-processing I took a white balance reading in the clouds since auto WB in Lightroom and the camera both failed to get anywhere close. So the photo recaptures pretty much what I saw with my own eyes last evening. [P1020701_lr_2000]
