da kam eine schwarze Wolkenwand auf uns zu.

wir wollten eigentlich sehen, dass wir so schnell wie möglich zu unserem Auto kommen. Aber, das Licht war für 5 Minuten unglaublich schön, weil nur die Häuser auf der anderen Rheinseite in der Sonne lagen. Es reichte für ein paar Bilder. Es blieb aber trocken, die Wolken verzogen sich wieder.

Diese Lachmöwe hatte sichtlich Spaß an diesem tollen Morgen. Eigentlich war sie nur auf Futtersuche, aber dazu sprang sie immer wieder aus dem Wasser in das Wasser.. Ich glaube ja sie hatte mächtig Spaß an dem Morgen! zum Glück in top Foto Entfernung mit super Licht dazu..

Entlang des Highway 12, weg vom zentralen Parkbereich, folgt diese Route einem kleinen Bach, eigentlich einem künstlichen Entwässerungskanal, der in den 1890er Jahren angelegt wurde, zu einem Wasserfall und einer kühlen Nische, die von Moosvorhängen gesäumt ist.

Es gibt Zeiten, da ist das Wetter umso besser, je schlechter es ist! Das ist eigentlich immer der Fall, wenn man mit der Kamera unterwegs ist. Es gibt nichts langweiligeres als einen blauen Himmel!

This cucumber slice (which I stuck on my living room window), backlit by the currently rare sun, was my first idea for the Macro Monday theme "B&W", but I wasn't happy with the black and white processing result - I had hoped to see a distinctive pattern or structure in close-up, but a cucumber slice does not have a particularly distinctive pattern which could have looked good in b&w (unlike leaves with their nervure, for instance). In fact its structure appears to be rather chaotic, maybe because cucumbers contain so much water.

So for me this had to be in colour. I processed it in Nik's Color Efex (I used the Cross Processing and Foliage filters), and Analog Efex (Bokeh filter to blur the edges).

"Gurkenscheibe auf Fenster, von der Sonne beleuchtet" - und eigentlich eine Scheibe Gewächshaus ;-) Bis es die ersten Gurken aus der Region gibt, ist es ja noch ein Weilchen hin.

Meine erste Idee für das Macro-Monday-Thema "B&W", aber hier gefiel mir die SW-Umsetzung nicht so richtig. Ich hatte mir ein spannendes Muster in der Nahaufnahme erhofft, das sich in SW gut hätte machen können, aber die Gurkenstruktur ist doch recht chaotisch, vielleicht weil Gurken so viel Wasser enthalten.

Hier musste es einfach Farbe sein ;-). Bearbeitet in Niks Color Efex (Cross-Processing- und Foliage-Filter) und Analog Efex (Bokeh-Filter für die Extra-Unschärfe am Bildrand).

These seafowls were not seen very often in Switzerland (as it is a landlocked region) but the gulls started to settle down here in the sixties. Now the are the most common of all gulls in our country. Sometimes I have to only look out my windows to see about 100 of them.

Diese Möwenart gehört eigentlich zu den Meeresvögeln und war in der Schweiz (ein Binnenland) kaum zu sehen. Doch in den Sechzigerjahren hat die Mittelmeermöwe die Schweiz entdeckt und heute ist sie die meistverbreitete Möwe hierzulande.

Eigentlich kann man dieses, an Loriot angelehnte, Zitat ja nicht überzetzen und Loriot kennt man sicherlich nur hier in Deuschland.

Leider war es ein stiller Genosse, ich hab ihn nicht singen gehört. und somit könnte es ein Zilpzalp aber auch ein Fitis gewesen sein.

Also, falls jemand auf diesem Suchbild erkennen/bestimmen kann, was mir da vor die Linse lief, darf mich gerne belehren.

Unfortunately, it was a quiet buddy, I did not hear it singing and so it could have been a Chiffchaff but also a Willow warbler.

I would not have expected to see them here in the north just now because they are migrating birds.

So, if someone can give an ID what kind of bird ran in front of the lens, please let me know!

In fact I went to that lake to watch cranes. While I was waiting for their return that picture draw my attention. The perfect reflection, the soft waves leading through the pictures diagonal and the soft light of the setting sun. Everything matched even without any cranes of the photograph.

Eigentlich war ich hier an dem See um Kraniche zu beobachten. Während ich auf deren Rückkehr wartete fiel mir dieses Bild ins Auge. Eine perfekte Spiegelung und die Ausrichtung der sanften Wellen genau in der Diagonale und dazu noch das sanfte Licht der untergehenden Sonne. Da hat alles gepasst, da musste nichtmal ein Kranich dabei sein.

Eigentlich ist diese Seitenapside aus dem 13. Jh. Die hier zusehende Bemalung dieses Kirchenteiles erfolgte jedoch erst im 19. Jh. Links führt ein Durchgang in den Rechteckchor mit seinen berühmten Fenstern die z. T. noch aus dem 15. Jh sind.

En fait, cette abside latérale date du 13ème siècle.

Die Jahreszeit für diese Reise habe ich ausgewählt um unbedingt Wale zu sehen.

Heute meine 1. Begegnung mit diesen wundervollen Tieren.

Leider musste ich schnell feststellen, dass das beobachten und vor allem das fotografieren der Wale extrem schwierig ist. Vor allem wenn das Wasser derart bewegt ist. Hier haben wir eigentlich nicht erwartet Wale zu sehen, aber später in Hermanus konnten wir dann viele beobachten. Aber gute Fotos sind auch dann Mangelware, obwohl wir sie da auch aus kürzester Entfernung beobachten konnten.

Jetzt sehen wir ein einzelnes Tier das aber nur immer mal hier mal dort kurz auftaucht und der Foto-click ist oft zu spät. Egal es ist ein einmaliges Erlebnis diese mächtigen Tiere zu erleben. In dieser Gegend findet man vorrangig die Südlichen Glattwale., häufig mit Jungen . Die weiblichen Tiere wiegen etwa 40 tonnen und sind ca 15 m lang. SIe haben eine Lebensdauer von ca 50 Jahren.

Man nennt sie hier Southern-Right-Wale oder Südkaper.

Nach einer langen Zugpause und dem Regio kam in den Schleifen über Sandominic am 28.08.2019 dann endlich ein Güterzug. Eigentlich wollten wir gerade die Stelle wechseln, doch auf der Straße sah ich dann weit hinten am Horizont einen Güterzug, also schnell umgedreht, den schlechten Feldweg hintergefahren und das letzte Stück sowie den Hang hochgelaufen. Völlig außer Atem konnte dann 40-0691 von GFR mit ihren blauen Schüttgutwagen aufgenommen werden. Anschließend brauchte ich erstmal das Sauerstoffzelt! :-)

After a long train break and the Regio finally came a freight train in the loops via Sandominic on 08/28/2019. Actually we just wanted to change the place, but on the road far behind on the horizon I saw a freight train, so turned around quickly, drove behind the bad dirt road and ran up the last stretch and the slope. Completely out of breath, GFR could then pick up 40-0691 with its blue bulk goods wagon. Then I needed the oxygen tent first! :-)

Dafür, dass die Aufnahme mit einem Smartphon bei etwa 28facher Tele-Einstellung gemacht wurden, ist das Ergebnis eigentlich noch akzeptabel. Da zeigt sich wieder: Die Beste Kamera ist die, die man gerade dabei hat. Und die Smarties werden smarter.

Eigentlich wollte ich nur die Blüte fotografieren, um zum ersten Mal die Stackingtechnik auszuprobieren. Den kleinen Kerl, der sich offensichtlich vor dem Regen in Sicherheit gebracht hatte, und so dem Foto zu seinem Titel verhalf, konnte ich während der Aufnahmen auf dem kleinen Monitor gar nicht sehen. Schöne Überraschung.

Actually, I just wanted to photograph the flower to try out the stacking technique for the first time. I couldn't even see the little guy who had apparently been safe from the rain, and thus helped the photo to its title, during the shots on the small monitor. Nice surprise!

Another one from the great photowalk with Flickr friends in Berlin in Juli. Taken at Potsdamer Platz. When I looked up I saw the airplane and its vapour trail, and the jet trail was getting in line with the spire of the building. I was a bit too late, because, stupidly, at first I had just watched the scene for a while, then I thought "This could actually make a nice photo if I manage to get vapour trail and building top in one line" and by the time I had my camera ready (hours later, so to say), the opportunity was almost gone. Or, rather, had flown way. Almost ;-) I was tempted to photoshop the image and align the vapour trail exactly with the top of the building, but then decided against it. The scene is as shot. I flipped the image, which I had originally taken in portrait mode, horizontally, though, because I think it looks nicer that way. Processed in Aurora HDR and in Luminar.

Auf die Spitze getrieben. Fast.

Noch eins vom schönen Fotowalk mit Flickr-Freunden in Berlin im Juli, aufgenommen am Potsdamer Platz. Ich habe mehr durch Zufall hoch geschaut und gesehen, dass der Kondensstreifen des Flugzeugs, das gerade über den Platz flog, je nach meiner Position, eine Linie mit der Spitze des 70 Meter hohen Forum Towers (entworfen vom italienischen Star-Architekten Renzo Piano) bildete. Anstatt gleich zur Kamera zu greifen, habe ich erst eine Weile zugeschaut, mir dabei gedacht, dass das eigentlich ein gutes Motiv abgeben könnte, und als ich dann, gefühlte Stunden später, endlich die Kamera parat hatte, war die Gelegenheit schon fast vorüber(-geflogen). Zum Glück nur fast. Ich habe beim Bearbeiten kurz mit dem Gedanken gespielt, den Kondensstreifen in Photoshop leicht zu versetzen, um ihn exakt mit der Turmspitze auf eine Linie zu bringen, mich dann aber dagegen entschieden. Die Szene ist so, wie ich sie fotografiert habe. Ich habe lediglich das ursprünglich hochkant aufgenommene Foto nach links gedreht, weil ich es so schöner finde. Enwickelt in Aurora HDR und Luminar.

Noch eins: Ich habe momentan Probleme mit meiner Internetverbindung, besonders am Abend. Das heißt also, dass ich noch mehr als sonst hinterherhinke beim Kommentieren und besternen Eurer neuen Fotos. Das ist keinesfalls Desinteresse. Ich hoffe, dass bald alles wieder vernünftig läuft.

Haubentaucher fotografiere ich sehr gerne. Eigentlich weiß ich nicht einmal genau warum, allerdings fasziniere sie mich irgendwie. Freue mich immer, wenn ich einen sehe und gucke gern zu.

Bei diesem hier habe ich gehofft, dass er ein wenig posiert, leider machte er das nur mit dem Rücken zu mir..

Ich sehe den Stieglitz in meiner Gegend sehr selten und auch am Futterhäuschen taucht er im Winter eigentlich nie auf. Dieses Foto habe ich heute Morgen durch die Fensterscheibe gemacht.

Eigentlich leere ich die Krümel unseres Brotkorbes direkt an unserer Terrassentür für die Vögel aus, aber auch dem Mäuschen schmeckt es :-)

Land's End is the western most part of England. Which is not exactly right as there are the Scilly Islands further west ;-) Still, even though maybe over-rated, the 5.5km hike from Sennen Cove to Land's End (www.southwestcoastpath.org.uk/walksdb/28/) was one of the most beautiful walks we did.

Land's end ist der westlichste Punkt Englands. Was eigentlich nicht ganz korrekt ist, weil im Westen noch die Scilly Islands folgen. In jedem Fall war der 5.5km Weg (eine Richtung, hin und zurück eben 11km) von Sennen Cove zu Land's End mit der schönste Weg, den wir genommen haben.

Velcro® tape. Not what I wanted to do for the theme at all, in fact I didn't even remotely think of using velcro for the "Hook" theme. But then, yesterday, Flickr friend TOMFLASH91 happened to fave a photo of mine that I had taken for the MM theme "Connection" back in September 2017 (you can find it in the first comment). When I noticed the fave and looked at my "Connection" photo, one I had almost forgotten about after three years, it was a true "Heureka! moment", and I almost yelled "Hook, hook hooray!", because I definitely knew what I'd do for "Hook". So a huge thank you goes out to TOMFLASH for the inspiration, you've saved my Sunday :)

Since I didn't want to present a similar or almost identical velcro capture to you, I also knew that this time I had to use the extension tubes (I didn't even own extension tubes back in 2017). I had both extension tubes (10 and 16mm) mounted, plus the Raynox DCR-250 "Super Macro Conversion Lens" to get as close as possible to those tiny velcro hooks. And you know how super tiny the hooks of a "hook-and-loop fastener" are. It was as hard to measure the length of a single hook (approximately 1 mm / 0,039 inches) as it was difficult to focus. I lost focus numerous times, or rather the camera didn't find it in the first place, so I switched to manual focus only, and even then it was rather tricky, I had to move the camera forth and back (easier anyway) many times, but in the end I was really quite happy with the result, even though not everything is perfectly sharp, but I think there is enough sharpness to make it easy on the eyes. One thing is similar to my "Connection" image: For the upper "hook" part I'd used black velcro, for the soft, loopy part I'd used a white counterpart. There is only a hint of the loopy part visible here, in the lower right corner, and I had considered to crop that away to have the hook part going from one corner to the other, but I actually like the "loopy hint", because I think it completes the image. Because, after all, when it comes to Velcro, one can't be without the other (well, the hook part can, just think of soft fabrics, wool...). The perfect symbiosis :)

Lightsources were two LED lamps equipped with my improvised colour "filters": the translucent red plastic lid of a chocolate box, and a small green glass bottle. Sharpened in Topaz Sharpen AI (method "Stabilize", sharpening at 67, noise reduction at 28), and processed in LR only, where I removed some haze (at 35) and increased the saturation of green, orange, and slightly tweaked the luminosity of orange and yellow. It's a single shot, and for the very first time I had tried the Oly's "High-Res mode" which creates a 40 MP image by shifting the sensor around. I'm quite impressed with the file ;-)

Das wollte ich eigentlich gar nicht machen, hatte nicht einmal daran gedacht, dass der widerborstige Teil, der sich so gerne an empfindlichen Textilien festkrallt, wenn sein weiches Gegenstück mal nicht schnell genug zur Stelle ist, ja aus winzigen Häkchen besteht. Dann hatte aber gestern einer meiner Flickr-Freunde, TOMFLASH91, ein Bild von mir gefaved, das ich mal für das 2017er-Thema "Connection" gemacht hatte (zu finden im ersten Kommentar). Genau: Klettband. Fast hätte ich laut "Hook hook Hurrah!" gerufen, denn jetzt wusste ich, was ich für das Thema machen würde :)

Natürlich wollte ich nicht wieder ein ähnliches Foto machen wie vor drei Jahren, daher habe ich die Zwischenringe (10 und 16mm) angeschraubt und an das 60er-Makro noch den Raynox-DCR-250-Makrovorsatz, um so nah wie möglich an die Häkchen heranzukommen. Das anschließende Ausmessen der Häkchengröße (gut 1 mm lang) war mindestens genauso kompliziert (Lupe und Lineal kombiniert) wie das Fokussieren. Mit der Einstellung S-AF+MF war es reines Glücksspiel, überhaupt mal etwas Ähnliches wie "Fokus" zu finden, weshalb ich dann auf MF mit Fokussierhilfe gewechselt und die Kamera vorsichtig vor- und zurückbewegt habe, für so eine Extrem-Nahaufnahme sowieso die bessere Methode. Das Ergebnis ist zwar nicht 100%ig scharf, aber scharf genug, um es angenehm betrachten zu können, denke ich. Als Lichtquellen habe ich zwei seitlich angeordnete LED-Strahler verwendet, die ich jeweils mit meinen improvisierten "Farbfiltern" versehen hatte, rechts den durchsichtig-roten Pralinenschachteldeckel, links eine grüne Glasflasche. Entwicklungsschritte: Schärfen in Topaz Sharpen AI (Modus "Stabilize" mit Schärfung bei 67 und Rauschunterdrückung bei 28); und in LR habe ich den Dunst etwas reduziert (35) und die Farbsättigung(en) und Luminanz(en) im HSL-Modul angepasst. Die Aufnahme ist ein Einzelbild, das ich, zum allerersten Mal überhaupt, im "High-Res-Modus" der Oly aufgenommen habe. Der Sensor wird dabei hin- und hergeschoben (oder so ähnlich) und die Kamera erzeugt eine 40-MP-Aufnahme.

In den Apfelplantagen sind eigentlich immer irgendwo Rehe zu finden. An diesem Tag waren es etwa 20 Rehe, verteilt auf mehrere Reihen.

Yesterday morning in the Nette-Valley near Mayen/Eastern Eifel (Hammes-mill and Castle Bürresheim).

Actually, I was looking for a good location to photograph the castle. I found the location, but the forest around the castle was already wintry, not a colorful autumn forest.

On the way back, I happened to look up ... and the morning walk was worth it.

Gestern Morgen im Nettetal bei Mayen/Osteifel (nahe Hammesmühle und Schloß Bürresheim).

Eigentlich suchte ich nach einem guten Standort, um das Schloß zu fotografieren. Ich fand den Standort, aber der Wald um das Schloß herum war bereits winterlich, kein bunter Herbstwald mehr.

Auf dem Rückweg blickte ich zufällig nach oben...und schon hatte sich der Morgenspaziergang gelohnt.

Ich hatte eigentlich vor, für „Smile on Saturday“ ein anderes Foto zu verwenden, auf dem meine Wanderschuhe mit Blick auf den Schneeberg zu sehen sind, der allerdings auf diesem im Juli aufgenommenen Foto fast schneefrei ist. Als ich jedoch heute Morgen aus dem Fenster schaute und überrascht war, so viel Neuschnee zu sehen, beschloss ich, ein aktuelleres Foto zu machen und Euch gleichzeitig meine neuen Hausschuhe zu zeigen. Darauf steht „Glückspilz”. 🍄 Ob ich mich heute angesichts dieser unerwarteten Schneemenge selbst als solcher fühle, weiß ich noch nicht so recht, schließlich dachte ich, wir würden bald den Frühling erwarten ?! 😜

I had planned to use a different photo for Smile on Saturday, showing my walking boots with a view of the Schneeberg mountain, which had virtually no snow in this photo taken in July. However, when I looked out of the window this morning and was surprised to see a lot of fresh snow, I decided to take a more recent photo and show you my new slippers at the same time. They have the words “Glückspilz” (lucky fellow) written on them. 🍄 I'm not sure yet whether I feel like one today, given this unexpected amount of snow. After all, I thought we were expecting spring soon ?! 😜

Smile on Saturday: THE WORLD AT YOUR FEET

Ik ben normaal gesproken geen fan van de redelijk saaie combinatie van rode 101 loc en witte IC waggons. Maar toen ik op 29 augustus 2020 te Neugarten stond en zag, dat de zon misschien toch nog een weg door de wolken zou kunnen vinden, bleef ik nog even staan. Met een dreigende lucht in de achtergrond lukte het inderdaad (en ongelogen - de zon kwam slechts twee seconden voordat de foto werd gemaakt door de wolken). Te zien is de 101 141 met de IC 140 naar Amsterdam.

Manchmal sind es wirklich Sekunden die entscheiden ob ein Bild gelingt oder nicht. Am 29. August 2020 hatte die Sonne sich eigentlich schon verabschiedet als im Hintergrund die 101 141 mit dem IC nach Amsterdam auftauchte. Trotzdem blieb ich noch kurz stehen da ich hoffte, dass die Sonne es noch schafft. Und tatsächlich, zwei Sekunden bevor das Bild entstand, war die Sonne wieder da! Schön um auch mal ein Bild machen zu können wo die Sonne nicht im letzten Moment verschwand aber da war :-)

This view was a stunning moment we saw at the drive home from Czech Republic. We had a along day with heavy rain in the Ore Mountains. It was the sunset after the visit at the valley with the large cloud and the small tree I posted some weeks ago. We wanted to drive home as fast as possible but couldn't withstand to stop and take some pictures!

Dieser Anblick empfing uns nach eine Kurve auf unserer Fahrt nach Hause aus Tschechien ins Erzgebirge. Es ist der Sonnenuntergang nach dem heftigen Regen und dem wunderbaren Tagesabschluss mit der mächtigen Wolke und dem kleinen Baum, die ich vor einigen Wochen hier gezeigt habe. Eigentlich wollten wir nur noch nach Hause, aber konnten nicht umhin, hier noch anzuhalten und einige Fotos zu machen.

Die Anzahl der Planleistungen der Baureihe 218 auf der KBS 940 sind sehr überschaubar und sie beschränken sich auf den Berufsverkehr. Gut im Licht liegt eigentlich nur die an Freitagen verkehrende RB 27046 nach München HBF, die dann aus acht Doppelstockwagen gebildet wird und an Zugspitze und am Schluß mit je einer 218 bespannt ist. Am 02. September 2022 waren für diese Aufgabe die beiden ehemaligen Touristikzug Maschinen 218 418 und 416 eingeteilt. Bei Niedergeislbach konnte ich den eindrucksvollen Regionalzug fotografieren - immerhin können damit ca. 1.000 Reisende befördert werden.

Only the RB 27046 to Munich HBF, which is operated on Fridays, is in the light. It consists of eight double-decker coaches and is hauled by one 218 each at the end of the train. On 02 September 2022, the two former tourist train engines 218 418 and 416 were assigned to this job. At Niedergeislbach I was able to photograph the impressive regional train - after all, it can carry about 1,000 passengers.

Die Villa Pantschoulidzeff wurde 1850 bis 1854 nach Plänen des Wiener Ringstraßenarchitekten Theophil von Hansen errichtet. Sie liegt an wunderbarer Lage oberhalb von Traunkirchen am Traunsee und ist seit vielen Jahren unbewohnt. Ihr Garten hat mich schon immer durch seinen morbiden Charme fasziniert. Eigentlich ist es Privatbesitz und eingezäunt, doch wenn man will findet man ein unauffälliges, aber viel genutztes Loch in der Hecke. Wie durch ein Wunder ist dieser Ort bis heute von jeglichem Vandalismus verschont geblieben und präsentiert sich als Glücksfall für Fotografen.

It is situated in a wonderful location above Traunkirchen am Traunsee and is uninhabited for many years. Its garden has always fascinated me with its morbid charm. Miraculously, this place has been spared from any vandalism until today and presents itself as a stroke of luck for photographers.

Steinheil Cassar oder Wie entsteht eigentlich ein Seifenblasenbokeh?

Das sog. Seifenblasenbokeh ist eine inzwischen vielgeschätzte Eigenschaft besonders älterer Objektive. Hier sind die Triplets führend, also Objektive mit nur 3 Linsen wie dem Steinheil oder auch dem Trioplan bzw. Domiplan von Meyer Optik Görlitz. Das besondere Bokeh entsteht durch eine chromatische Überkorrektion und besonders an den äusseren Linsenbereichen. Daher ist die Wirkung voll aufgeblendet grösser. Die Münchner Firma Steinheil war in den 50iger und 60iger Jahren auf Augenhöhe mit Zeiss und Leica, produzierte Objektive u.a. für Kleinbildkameras wie die der Fa. Braun (Paxette etc.). Ich bin auf diesen Namen aufmerksam geworden nachdem ich ein Vintagefernglas erworben habe und verblüfft war über das fantastisch klare und dreidimensionale Bild dieses Fernglases. Das Cassar hat einen M42 Anschluss, 12 stufenlos bedienbare Lamellen, die Schärfe ist voll aufgeblendet recht gut, nimmt aber bis Bl. 5.6 deutlich zu, wobei der Blaseneffekt abnimmt, aber bei Bl. 4.0 noch sehr ausgeprägt ist.

Steinheil Cassar, or what makes a bubble bokeh?

The so called "bubble bokeh" is a getting more and more common feature of especially vintage lenses. Leaders are so called triplets, that means lenses consisting of three single lenses in the interior like this Steinheil or the Meyer Optics Görlitz Tripoplan or Domiplan. The special bokeh arises through a chromatic overcorrection and mainly at the outer area of the lenses. For this reason, it is more pronounced when the lens is used wide open. The Munich company Steinheil once in the fifties and sixties was at eyelevel with companies like Zeiss or Leica and produced lenses for some full format cameras like Braun (Paxette etc.). I became aware of it when I bought a vintage binocular from this make and was astonished about the clear, sharp and 3 dimensional view through it. The Cassar has a M42 mount, 12 infinitely variable blades, the sharpness is good wide open but is getting better till stop 5.6 whereas the bubble bokeh effect is diminishing it is still pronounced at stop 4.0.

Mal wieder ein altes Foto aus alter Zeit. Genauer gesagt aus dem Jahre 2013, als ich zu Besuch bei meiner Family in Potsdam war: der Hauptbahnhof in Berlin. Zu einer Zeit, in der er eigentlich gut besucht wird. Wie man die Menschen unsichtbar machen kann? Mit einer hohen Belichtungszeit. Da ich damals noch keinen Graufilter besaß, habe ich es mit einer hohen Blendenzahl versucht. Würde ich heute so selbstverständlich nicht mehr machen. :D

Again an old photo from the old time. More precisely from 2013, when I was visiting my family in Potsdam: The main station in Berlin. At a time when the main station is actually well visited. How to make people invisible? With a high exposure time. Since I didn't have a gray filter back then, I tried a high f-number. I wouldn't do that anymore today. :D

Otra vez una vieja foto de los viejos tiempos. Más precisamente a partir de 2013, cuando estaba visitando a mi familia en Potsdam: La estación central de Berlín. En un momento en que la estación principal está bien visitada. ¿Cómo hacer la gente invisible? Con un alto tiempo de exposición. Como no tenía un filtro gris en aquel entonces, probé con un número de abertura f/ mayor. Yo no haría eso hoy en día. ¡Por supuesto! :D

I'm sure you know the occurrence that if you hear a word too often, it begins to sound strange all of a sudden. "Strange", or any other word, will sound strange. Like the strangest word in the world. Obviously the same happens when you see something a little too often. Which is what happened to me yesterday. After taking numerous shots of the index finger of my right hand wearing a thimble, and then editing the whole thing, my finger in thimble all of a sudden started to look strange. Very strange. It still looks strange. Which is weird, but then, usually, I won't stare at my hands all the time ;-) Or ever use a thimble. I always seem to prefer to prick myself.

Another low-key, obviously. At first I wanted to do it as high-key, but already had black and white in mind. But in high-key it looked rather dull. So I decided to do another low-key image. Which is what you see here. If only it didn't look so strange ;-)

A Happy Macro Monday, and a happy week before Christmas, Everyone :-)

Ihr kennt das sicher: Wenn man ein Wort zu oft liest oder hört, sieht es plötzlich seltsam aus oder es klingt seltsam. Sogar das Wort seltsam klingt plötzlich seltsam, wenn man es einmal zu oft gehört hat. Dasselbe passiert offenbar auch, wenn man einen bestimmten Gegenstand oder eine Sache zu oft sieht. Ist mir gestern passiert. Nach unzähligen Fotos (und der anschließenden Bearbeitung) von meinem mit Fingerhut bewehrten Zeigefinger der rechten Hand sah das alles plötzlich sehr seltsam aus. Also mein Finger im Fingerhut. Sehr eigenartig, komisch. Seltsam eben. Wobei ich natürlich normalerweise auch nicht den ganzen Abend meine Hände betrachte ;-) Oder überhaupt einen Fingerhut trage, ich denke immer, dass ich mich schon nicht pikse (denken kann man viel).

Ich bin auch wieder bei Low-Key gelandet. Eigentlich wollte ich es als High-Key machen, das sah aber eher langweilig aus. Also zurück zum Bewährten, Schwarzweiß hatte ich aber von Beginn an im Sinn. Das Resultat seht Ihr hier. Wenn es doch bloß nicht so seltsam aussehen würde ;-)

The weather was actually promising – a few clouds, but nothing dramatic. But in the middle of Cologne's city forest, I was surprised by a sudden downpour. The almost bare trees offered little protection, and the wind did the rest. Within two minutes, I was completely soaked. Luckily, I had taken my camera backpack with me after all – I had actually wanted to leave it in the car. It was pure coincidence that enabled me to take this picture despite the rain. Sometimes opportunity lies in the unexpected.

Eigentlich war das Wetter vielversprechend – ein paar Wolken, aber nichts Dramatisches. Doch mitten im Stadtwald Köln überraschte mich ein plötzlicher Wolkenbruch. Die fast kahlen Bäume boten kaum Schutz, und der Wind tat sein Übriges. In zwei Minuten war ich komplett durchnässt. Zum Glück hatte ich meinen Kamerarucksack doch mitgenommen – eigentlich wollte ich ihn im Auto lassen. Ein echter Zufall, der mir trotz Regen dieses Bild ermöglichte. Manchmal liegt die Chance im Unerwarteten.

Am Abend auf der Lichtung, etwas später mit dem Blick in Richtung der untergegangenen Sonne. In diese Richtung wollte ich eigentlich mit einem Panorama den schönen Blick zeigen. Doch die wenigen Wolken waren zu hoch, so dass ich mich zum Hochformat entschloss.

In the evening in the clearing, a little later with the view in the direction of the setting sun. In this direction, I actually wanted to show the beautiful view with a panorama. But the few clouds were too high, so I decided to portrait format.

Nach dem der erste Versuch in einem grandiosen Wolkenschaden endete klappte es bei der zweiten Runde ohne eine einzige Wolke am Himmel.

Wegen Bauarbeiten wurde die Strecke Berlin - Hamburg Ende 2021 großflächig gesperrt, somit war es für mich möglich die eigentlich über Wittenberge fahrenden Containerzüge der EGP auf der Ost-West zu fotografieren. Am 09.10.2021 schaffte ich es dann auch endlich ein Sonnenbild von der EGP 139 beim Überqueren der Autobahnbrücke in Schandelah anzufertigen.

After the first attempt ended in terrific cloud damage, the second time I was able to catch the train without a single cloud in the sky.

Due to construction work, the Berlin - Hamburg route was largely closed at the end of 2021, so I could photograph the EGP container trains normally traveling via Wittenberge on the east-west route. On October 9th, 2021 I finally managed to take a sun picture of the EGP 139 crossing the highway bridge in Schandelah.

From the new (please see my previous upload or first comment) to the old, historical part of the Deutsches Historisches Museum / German Historical Museum (DHM): the entrance hall of the Zeughaus. The Zeughaus was originally built as an arsenal (hence the name Zeughaus which means arsenal or armoury) in baroque style between 1695 and 1706 and was redesigned as a Prussian hall of fame between 1877 and 1880. The Zeughaus was damaged by a fire in WWII, and restored by the GDR authorities between 1949 and 1967 (the exterior true to the original, the interior in a more simplified fashion), and found its current use as home of the DHM in 2003. The Zeughaus today is the oldest original structure on Berlin's oldest boulevard Unter den Linden ("under the linden trees").

Slide-ified for Sliders Sunday: I copied and horizontally flipped the door (which leads to exhibition rooms) and the adjacent space on the left to replace the originally more cluttered looking part on the right (with the main entrance and the rather busy museum shop) to create a more harmonious and cleaner look. And I borrowed an image taken at the opposite staircase: The forest illumination with the two silhouettes - father and son - in front of it. The area at the top of the stairs on this side of the entrance hall was actually completely empty.

Vom neuen (siehe vorheriges Bild oder meinen ersten Kommentar hier) zum historischen Teil des Deutschen Historischen Museums (DHM): die imposante Eingangshalle des Zeughauses. Oder besser gesagt ein kleiner Teil davon, für Sliders Sunday leicht modifiziert: Neben der Treppe auf dieser Seite der Eingangshalle befindet sich linkerhand der Eingang zum Museumscafé und rechts - eigentlich - der Museumsshop, von dem Ihr hier aber nicht viel sehen könnt. Ich habe diesen recht unruhigen rechten Teil meines (Original-)Fotos - Tische mit Büchern etc. darauf, herumwuselnde Besucher - durch die gespiegelte und kopierte linke Tür (und den Bereich direkt davor) ersetzt, um dem Foto mehr Ruhe und Ausgeglichenheit zu spendieren, da ich ohnehin vorhatte, den an sich leeren Teil oben auf dieser Treppe mit einem Foto von der gegenüberliegenden Treppe zu beleben: der Waldillumination mit den Silhouetten von Vater und Sohn davor. Wenn schon verfremdet, dann richtig ;-)
