I've started to collect older, already processed images in a "Flickr waiting line folder" so that they are easier to find than in the depths of my Lightroom Catalogue. I'm sure you know the "problem". We collect so many images on our hard drive, some of which we don't like right away, and we only see their potential much later, others that we like from the start, but somehow there are so many other new photos competing for an upload so that many of these photos are left behind. I often go through LR and flip back to earlier images, and I think "Oh, this one is actually nice, I should process it and post it!", but it's the "wrong" day for that particular image in the Flickr world of theme-related groups; the next day I'll see another image and I'll think the same, and by the end of that (or any other) week I have usually forgotten about any of the archived images I thought "postable". And so on ;-) Hence the special folder, and this is the first one from that folder, captured (with the lovely 45mm F/1.8) back in July 2018 on my Mother's birthday at a nice Café and Restaurant, the "LuLa Deli & Grill", around the corner. Meanwhile I have quite many new images from a visit to the Olympic stadium this week, and I'm busy with processing these and will post a few soon, others later, so stay tuned :-)

So, dear Flickr friends, treat yourself to something nice for the weekend, stay safe and healthy, and take care! And I'd like to send special greetings to my Flickr friends who live on the US West Coast and experience the horrible wildfires. Ich habe mir jetzt endlich mal einen "Flickr-Warteschlange"-Ordner angelegt, in den alle älteren, eigentlich bereits fix und fertig entwickelten Bilder wandern, die sonst in den Tiefen des Lightroom-Katalogs verschwinden. Zwar schaue ich regelmäßig auch die älteren Bilder durch, aber dann passt ein Bild nicht zum speziellen "Flickr-Tag" bzw. einem Gruppenthema, am nächsten Tag entdecke ich dann schon ein weiteres Bild, von dem ich denke "Das könnte ich ja auch mal zeigen" - und am Ende der Woche habe ich die Bilder nicht mehr auf dem Schirm. Und wieder von vorn. Ihr kennt das sicher ;-) Dieses ist nun das erste Bild aus diesem speziellen Ordner, aufgenommen im Juli 2018 mit dem feinen, kleinen 45mm F1.8 in einem netten Restaurant-Café, dem "LuLa Deli & Grill", bei mir um die Ecke. Nach so vielen Low-Key-Makros und Architektur- bzw. Landschaftsfotos dachte ich, dass es ruhig mal wieder ein nettes Blümchen sein darf. Zumal dann demnächst wieder viel Architektur kommen wird, da ich noch was vom Cube in petto habe und diese Woche auch mal wieder im Olympiastadion war und dort endlich wieder nach Herzenslust fotografieren konnte :-)

This photo gives you a good overview over Berlin's Government district, all the major governmental buildings in this area are visible in my photo, including the Reichstag building (the seat of the German government) with Norman Foster's famous, newly designed dome on the left, and the Bundeskanzleramt (German Chancellery) which you can see on the right (behind the Swiss embassy), and a few other governmental buildings, plus several Berlin landmarks. I might still add a few photo comments tomorrow, but for now I don't want to clutter the photo with lots of photo comments. I've added the names of some of the buildings, sights, and places in the tags (from left to right to front). For more images of the Governmental district, please see my album.

Image photoGRIIIphed from the rooftop of the Futurium, the so called "Skywalk". It had been a very bright and sunny day (as you can see), and I couldn't see a thing on the Ricoh's screen, so I was glad I had the, albeit merely optical, viewfinder mounted. This photo also wasn't intended as a panorama at all. As I was leaning onto the roof's balustrade, I was following the boat with the camera. Later, when I viewed the two final images, I thought that maybe I could combine them for a panoramic view. While I didn't really succeed in doing that manually, the panorama photomerge function in LR did an amazing job here, down to the use of only the boat in the left position (it had been in both images). Technically, this final image is a combination of, altogether, 8 single images: two HDR images made of 2 exposure bracketing series consisting of three images each (which I'd combined in HDR Efex), and the two final HDR images merged in LR.

Die Wahl zum 20. Deutschen Bundestag ist gelaufen, aber es bleibt weiter spannend. Hier ein Foto, dass ich im Juli vom Dach des Futuriums, dem sog. Skywalk, aufgenommen habe. Ihr habt hier einen guten Überblick nicht nur über das Berliner Regierungsviertel, sondern es sind am Horizont auch einige Sehenswürdigkeiten zu entdecken. Ein paar der wichtigsten Gebäude, Plätze und Sehenwürdigkeiten habe ich, von links nach rechts nach vorn, in den Tags genannt. Ich hatte erst auch an Fotokommentare gedacht, möchte das Bild damit aber nicht zukleistern (denn es würden tatsächlich sehr viele Bildkommentare werden), weshalb ich darauf erst einmal verzichte.

Das Foto ist ein Panorama aus zwei Fotos, die ich mit der Ricoh GR III gemacht habe. Eigentlich hatte ich vor Ort gar nicht an ein Panorama gedacht, weil es auf dem Skywalk so sonnig und hell gewesen war, dass ich auf dem Display der GR III sowieso nichts erkennen konnte (wie gut, dass es den, wenngleich rein optischen, Aufstecksucher gibt, der in solchen Situation wirklich Gold wert ist), sodass an eine saubere Panorama-Komposition auch überhaupt nicht zu denken gewesen wäre. Ich hatte mit der Kamera lediglich den Ausflugsdampfer verfolgt und zwei 3er-Belichtungsreihen von unterschiedlichen Positionen des Schiffes (einmal links, so wie im fertigen Panorama zu sehen, und einmal mittig rechts) gemacht, wobei die Dachbalustrade im Vordergrund ein gutes Behelfsstativ abgegeben hatte. Der Gedanke, zu versuchen, die beiden fertigen HDRs (Programm der Wahl: HDR Efex) zu einen Panorama zusammenzufügen, kam mir dann auch erst später. Manuell wollte es nicht klappen, aber die "Zusammenfügen: Panorama"-Funktion in LR hat ganze Arbeit geleistet, LR hat mir beim Zusammenfügen sogar das nur angeschnitten sichtbare Schiff vom 2. Foto automatisch entfernt – sehr praktisch :)

Macro Mondays Theme: Stripes

The Blue Orchid so does not grow in nature. It is originally a quite white orchid. They receive the dye as for a blood transfusion through a catheter in the flower stalk. The wires run like a red stripes through the petal, while the leaves are coloured blue.

Die blaue Orchidee wächst so nicht in der Natur. Sie ist eigentlich eine ganz weiße Orchidee Wie bei einer Bluttransfusion wird ihr mit einer Nadel ein Farbstoff in den Stengel eingführt. Die Adern ziehen sich als rote Linien durch das Blütenblatt, während die Blätter blau gefärbt sind.

I took this image rather for fun one morning last week (meaning: handheld without tripod, lit with a colour-changing LED light) just to see how the setting would look like ... I kind of liked the somewhat blurry and psychedelic look.

Das war eigentlich nur ein Spaß-/Test-Bild zum Ausprobieren (ohne Stativ, etwas verwackelt) ... dabei ist es dann geblieben ... irgendwie mochte ich das Ergebnis (trotz leichter Verwacklungsunschärfe)

Perfektionismus ist überbewertet ! : ))

Eigentlich wollte ich ja den Sonnenaufgang fotografieren, aber es gab nur Landschaft im Nebel, wie hier der Felsenbergerhof.

Actually I wanted to photograph the sunrise, but there was only landscape in the fog, like here the Felsenbergerhof.

Ein schmaler Moosweg zog sich durch die Baumgruppen und eigentlich wäre es total dunkel gewesen, wenn nicht das Sonnenlicht durch einen schmalen Schlitz zwischen den Baumkronen als Restlichtverstärker fungiert hat. Es war regnerisch an diesem Tag und der Boden war sehr nass. Dany, meinem Hund hat dieses Ambiente allerdings gefallen. Er wollte gar nicht mehr aus dem Wald heraus.

A narrow moss trail stretched through the clumps of trees and actually it would have been totally dark, if not the sunlight has acted as a residual light amplifier through a narrow slit between the treetops. It was rainy that day and the ground was very wet. Dany, my dog liked this ambiance, though. He did not want to leave the woods at all.

Ich wünsche euch noch einen schnuckeligen Herbst シ

Diesmal nicht in s/w - sind aber alle am gleichen Tag aufgenommen. Ich wollte sie eigentlich nicht einstellen (oder dann in s/w entwickeln ;-)) - aber nach den Protesten "Herbstfotos können doch nicht kitschig aussehen..." シ hmm ... bin ich in mich gegangen. [👀]

Bildet euch aber selbst `ne Meinung.

Auf dem Kamera-Display sahen sie jedenfalls auch toll aus.

Actually I was here at the fantastic Praia do Castelejo in the Algarve for something completely different. For the sunset what is coming closer right behind me at this moment.

I was scouting the surroundings to find some compositions when I realised some movement in the water the distance. So I quickly changed to my telephoto lens and captured this scenery.

Eigentlich war ich hier am wunderschönen Praia do Castelejo in der Algarve wegen etwas ganz anderem, nämlich wegen dem Sonnenuntergang, der gerade hinter mir näher rückt.

Als ich die Gegend sondierte, um ein paar schöne Kompositionen zu finden, nahm ich aus dem Augenwinkel eine Bewegung im@Wasser in der Ferne war. Also schnell auf‘s Teleobjektiv gewechselt und die Szene festgehalten.

Now it's official weather-wise, autumn has arrived. Actually, I really like taking photos at this time of the year. On the other hand, I love the warmth and relaxed atmosphere in summer.

For this reason I make a little trip into the past on a warm summer evening and feel, smell and hear again what it was like that day.

Maybe you have the time to pause and follow me.

Nun ist es wettertechnisch offiziell, der Herbst ist angekommen. Eigentlich mag ich es sehr in dieser Jahreszeit zu fotografieren. Auf der anderen Seite liebe ich die Wärme und die entspannte Atmosphäre im Sommer.

Aus diesem Grund mach ich noch einen kleinen Ausflug in die Vergangenheit zu einem warmen Sommerabend und fühle, rieche und höre noch einmal, wie es an diesem Tag war.

Vielleicht habt Ihr ja die zeit kurz inne zu halten und mir zu folgen.

Wandering through my gallery of previously unpublished images, I realized that I haven't yet managed to keep a promise I made to you.

I spent a night in the Italian Alps on my spring trip to Tuscany.

The morning after, from my pitch, I had a beautiful view of the mountains behind which the sun had just risen.

I put this photo back at the time because I couldn't wait to get to the photos I was actually there for.

In the meantime, so many new impressions have been added that the picture has slipped backwards. Now I'm bringing it up again because those craggy snowy rocks with the golden sky in the background are worth showing off.

Even if the viewing angle from my position is unfortunately not quite as ideal.

Beim Wandern durch meine Galerie der bisher noch unveröffentlichten Bilder ist mir bewust geworden, dass es mir noch nicht gelungen ist ein Versprechen einzulösen, was ich Euch gegeben habe.

Auf meiner Fahrt in die Toskana im Frühling habe ich eine Nacht in den italienischen Alpen verbracht.

Am Morgen danach, von meinem Stellplatz aus hatte ich einen wunderschönen Blick auf die Berge, hinter denen gerade die Sonne aufgegangen war.

Dieses Foto hatte ich damals zurück gestellt, da ich es nicht erwarten konnte zu den Fotos zu kommen, wegen denen ich eigentlich dort war.

Inzwischen sind so viele neue Eindrücke dazu gekommen, dass das Bild nach hinten gerutscht ist. Jetzt hole ich es wieder nach vorn, denn diese schroffen schneebedeckten Felsen mit dem goldenen Himmel im Hintergrund sind es wert gezeigt zu werden.

Auch wenn der Blickwinkel von meiner Position aus, leider nicht ganz so optimal ist.

Actually I like the round straw bales much more than this one here. But as I recently saw this Lego for farmers close to my house, I could'nt resist. One benefit of this version is, that I could try another perspective, with a better oberview. Foresight never hurt anyone.

Eigentlich gefallen mir die runden Strohballen deutlich besser als diese hier. Als ich kürzlich dieses Lego für Landwirte in der Nähe meines Hauses gesehen habe konnte ich trotzdem nicht widerstehen. Der Vorteil von dieser Variante ist, dass ich hier mal eine andere Perspektive versuchen konnte, eine mit mehr Übersicht. Weitblick hat noch nie geschadet.

I don't know whether the exact 55/34-formula applies to this capitulum - it does to most sunflowers, and the sunchoke is a member of the Helianthus family; but like most spiral forms found in nature, it is based on the famous Fibonacci sequence (and as far as formulas, sequences and such are involved, I'd happily entrust you to Wikipedia, because all the math stuff has always been way beyond me 😉 ) Isn't it fascinating how many spirals we find in nature? From the tiniest shapes found in shells, snail shells, flowers and cones, to the most huge ones, the galaxies - and all of them are perfect logarithmic structures. This natural spiral definitely is on the smaller side, the capitulum (I hope it's the correct term) of this sunroot is just 1,7 cm / 0,67 inches in diameter. This is a focus stack composed of 52 images, combined in Helicon Focus, method B (radius 14, smoothing 7). I have an image of another blossom from this sunchoke bouquet which I liked a little better, because that capitulum had more green in it, but the spiral here is nicer

and also much better defined, so I've decided to add this to the MM photo pool despite it being a little too "all over yellow".

Ist es nicht erstaunlich, wo sich in der Natur überall Spiralformen finden lassen? Angefangen bei winzigen Schnecken- oder Muschelgehäusen, Zapfen (Tannen-, Fichten- usw.) aller Art, Blumen... bis hin zu riesigen Spiralgalaxien, zu denen auch unsere Heimatgalaxie, die Milchstraße gehört. Die meisten in der Natur vorkommenden Spiralen sind als Fibonacci-Folge angeordnet, so auch der Blütenkorb dieser Topinambur-Blüte. Diese Art der "Blütenspirale" kann man selbst bei Gänseblümchen finden. Ich hatte hier noch eine weitere Version von einer anderen Blüte, die zu dem schönen Topinambur-Strauß, der zurzeit mein Wohnzimmer schmückt, gehört, die mir an sich besser gefallen hat, weil mehr Grün darin war, aber hier kommt die Spirale besser zur Geltung, weshalb nun dieses Foto die offizielle MM-Version geworden ist - selbst wenn es ein wenig sehr (eigentlich fast ausschließlich) Gelb ist.

Dies ist wieder ein Fokus-Stack aus 52 Einzelfotos und zusammengefügt in Helicon Focus (Methode B, Radius 14, Glättung 7).

Since today is a bit cloudier than the past, I'll bring an alternative sun into play.

Actually, the sunflower is now automatically mentioned at this point, which of course is also predestined for this. But the coneflower, especially this predominantly yellow variant, is in no way inferior to her in my opinion. Except that the coneflower is of course much smaller and you dont see them in their thousands on the fields.

Da der heutige Tag etwas wolkiger ist als die vergangenen, bringe ich mal eine alternative Sonne ins Spiel.

Eigentlich wird an dieser Stelle jetzt reflexartig die Sonnenblume genannt, die natürlich auch dafür prädistiniert ist. Doch der Sonnenhut, vor allem diese überwiegend gelbe Variante, steht ihr nach meiner Ansicht in nichts nach. Außer, dass der Sonnenhut natürlich deutlich kleiner ist und nicht zu tausenden auf den Feldern steht.

a tribute to Chis Rea

In fact I was on tour to take a picture of the Barabarine, a rock formation at mount Pfaffenstein, an Sunrise. For this I arrived to late and so I didn’t make any picture there. On my way back I had a perfect view in the opposite direction across the fog covered Elbe valley with mount Königstein and mount Lilienstein. In a Short Moment, as the fog split I made that Photo. So it’s always helpful, even in landscape photography, to carry a telephoto lens with you.

Eigentlich war ich unterwegs um die Barbarine , eine Felsformation auf dem Pfaffenstein, bei Sonnenaufgang zu fotografieren. Dafür war ich leider zu spät dran und ich hab das Motiv weggelassen. Auf dem Rückweg hatte ich in der entgegen gesetzten Richtung einen tollen Blick auf das Elbtal mit dem Lilienstein und dem Königstein. Und in einem kurzen Moment, als der Nebel sich öffnete entstand dieses Foto. Es ist also auch bei der Landschaftsfotografie immer von Vorteil eine Teleobjektiv dabei zu haben.

Spitze einer Glasvase

Eigentlich hatte ich heute keine Idee zu dem Thema. Mann und Tochter Silke, darum gibt es auch kein Foto von ihr, beide krank. Eine heftige Erkältung hat sie erwischt.

Ein Zufall das mein Blick auf eine kleine kugelige Glasvase fiel, die an der Öffnung in ein hochgezogenes Dreieck mündet. Zwei Fotos, eines ein wenig in Luminar bearbeitet, das heißt die hintere Rundung der Vase etwas verstärkt , fertig. so unkompliziert und schnell hatte ich noch nie für Macro Monday ein Thema fertig.

Tip of a glass vase

Actually, I had no idea about that today. Husband and daughter Silke, that's why there's no picture of them, both sick. She caught a bad cold.

A coincidence that my view fell on a small spherical glass vase, which ends in a raised triangle at the opening. Two photos, one slightly edited in Luminar, i.e. the rear rounding of the vase a little bit reinforced, finished. I never had such an uncomplicated and fast theme ready for Macro Monday.

Pointe d'un vase en verre!

En fait, je n'avais aucune idée de ça aujourd'hui. Le mari et la fille Silke, c'est pour ça qu'il n'y a pas de photo d'eux, tous les deux malades. Elle a pris un mauvais rhume.

Coïncidence, ma vue est tombée sur un petit vase sphérique en verre, qui se termine par un triangle surélevé à l'ouverture. Deux photos, dont une légèrement retouchée en Luminar, c'est-à-dire l'arrondi arrière du vase un peu renforcé, terminé. Je n'ai jamais eu un thème aussi simple et rapide prêt pour le Macro Monday.

Kriebstein Castle, probably the most beautiful knight's castle in Saxony, rises up on a cliff above the wild Zschopau river.

The way she's enthroned on the rock, she's really impressive. And it has been doing this for several hundred years, as it was built at the end of the 14th century.

When I was looking for a nice spot to take photos on the banks of the river that evening, I was actually hoping for a few clouds that make the sky a little more interesting, but unfortunately I didn't get them. Nevertheless, I really enjoyed my short visit there and am happy about the photos I brought back from there.

Auf einer Felsklippe oberhalb des wilden Flusses Zschopau erhebt sich die wohl schönste Ritterburg Sachsens die Burg Kriebstein.

Wie sie da so auf dem Felsen thront macht sie schon mächtig was her. Und das tut sie bereits seit mehreren hundert Jahren, denn gebaut wurde sie schon Ende des 14. Jahrhunderts.

Als ich an diesem Abend am Ufer des Flusses nach einer schönen Stelle zum Fotografieren gesucht habe, hatte ich eigentlich auf ein paar Wolken gehofft, die den Himmel etwas interessanter gestalten, doch die sind mir leider verwehrt geblieben. Trotzdem habe ich meinen Kurzbesuch dort sehr genossen und freue mich über die Fotos, die ich von dort mitgebracht habe.

This view is making me speechless, every time again.

When I'm hitting the road in the middle of the night towards the Elbe Sandstone Mountains, mostly I've got an approximate idea what conditions I can expect. I know this region and I informed myself as best as I could about the weather. What I'm going to see exactly, when the day ist starting and is lifting the black blanket of the night, is still a little surprise all the time. It was a quite big one on that morning because the sunrise itself wasn't visible at all to any time. Instead I had this view, what was fascinating me entirely.

Now, when I think about that I come to the conclusion that the weather doesn’t matter at all, when you spend time on a place like this.

Ein Anblick, der mich jedesmal wieder sprachlos macht.

Wenn ich mich mitten in der Nacht auf den Weg ins Elbsandsteingebirge mache, habe ich meisst eine ungefähre Idee, was mich dort für Bedingungen erwarten. Ich kenne die Gegend und hab mich, soweit möglich, über das Wetter erkundigt. Was sich mir dann konkret zeigt, wenn der Tag beginnt und den dunklen Mantel der Nacht lüftet, ist trotzdem jedesmal eine kleine Überraschung. An diesem Morgen war es eine ziemlich große, denn vom Sonnenaufgang selbst war zu keinem Zeitpunkt irgend etwas zu sehen. Stattdessen hatte ich diesen Anblick, der mich restlos begeistert hat.

Wenn ich nun näher darüber nachdenke komme ich zu dem Schluss, dass das Wetter eigentlich egal ist, wenn man Zeit an einem Ort wie diesem verbringt.

At least almost. The color red is actually complementary to green instead of pink ... But I think these two opposites attract each other very tenderly ;-)

Jedenfalls fast. Zu Grün ist ja eigentlich die Farbe Rot statt Pink komplementär ... Aber ich finde, diese beiden Gegensätze ziehen sich doch ganz zärtlich an ;-)

Here you can see another picture from my short visit to the Baltic Sea beach of Torfbrücke. And here you see a photo that I wasn't expecting, even if that's why I was here.

The reason for the surprise is the band of clouds that can be seen in the sky. As with my last visit to the Baltic Sea, about an hour before sunset, all the clouds in the northern hemisphere gathered in the west, blocking the entire sky. Exactly where the sun was supposed to set (which of course it would have done despite the clouds, but I would not have seen it and certainly not photographed it.

But after the area was already completely closed, a small strip suddenly opened up for a few minutes, which gave me a view of the sun and this wonderful light.

Due to the surprise, I was unfortunately no longer able to think much about the composition of the picture. So this was the best I was spontaneously able to do.

With this picture I have to say goodbye to you again for a few days until Friday. Duty calls and I will spend the next few days in a seminar room.

Hier seht Ihr ein weiteres Bild von meinem Kurzbesuch am Ostseestrand von Torfbrücke. Und Ihr seht hier eine Aufnahme, mit der ich nicht mehr gerechnet hatte, auch wenn ich gerade deswegen hier war.

Der Grund für die Überraschung ist das Wolkenband, was da am Himmel zu sehen ist. Wie schon bei meinem letzten Besuch an der Ostsee versammelten sich ungefähr eine Stunde vor Sonnenuntergang gefühlt alle Wolken der nördlichen Hemisphäre im Westen und blockierten so den kompletten Himmel. Also genau da, wo eigentlich die Sonne untergehen sollte (was sie natürlich trotz der Wolken getan hätte, was ich jedoch nicht gesehen und schon garnicht fotografiert hätte.

Doch nachdem der Bereich schon komplett verschlossen war öffnete sich dann plötzlich und nur für wenige Minuten ein kleiner Streifen, der mir den Blick auf die Sonne und dieses wundervolle Licht bescherte.

Auf Grund der Überraschung war ich leider nicht mehr in der Lage mir große Gedanken über den Bildaufbau zu machen. So war das hier das Beste, wozu ich spontan in der Lage war.

Mit diesem Bild muss ich mich schon wieder für ein paar Tage, bis Freitag, von Euch verabschieden. Die Pflicht ruft und ich werde die nächsten Tage in einem Seminarraum verbringen.

I wanted to upload this for Friday Flora, but Flickr had hiccups this Friday, so I decided to give the sliders a more intense go and process it to the max for Sliders Sunday ;-)

Taken in a street around my corner; I liked the pose of this lovely rose, kind of elated, a little fancy, and elegant like a dancer. At F/2.8 the background was rather distracting, so I isolated the rose, and slightly desaturated and blurred the backdrop. I've also added a texture to it in Analog Efex, one of the "dirt & scratches" presets. The rose was processed in HDR Efex, and as final touches I added a bokeh filter in ON1 (low opacity), and increased the warmth of the shadows and tweaked the HSL sliders for green, red, and magenta in LR.

Happy Sliders Sunday, Everyone, and take extra care now that the numbers of infections are soaring again!

Diese Rose war eigentlich für Freitagsblümchen gedacht, aber da Flickr diesen Freitag ja erheblichen Schluckauf hatte, habe ich das Foto etwas intensiver für den Sliders Sunday bearbeitet.

Aufgenommen in einer Straße bei mir fast um die Ecke. Ich fand die Pose der Rose so hübsch, keck, ein wenig exaltiert und so elegant wie eine Tänzerin. Da ich den Hintergrund (Blende F/2.8) ein wenig zu vorlaut fand, habe ich in PS die Rose freigestellt, den Hintergrund dezent entsättigt, leicht weichgezeichnet und ihn in Analog Efex mit einem "Schmutz-und-Kratzer"-Filter versehen. Die Rose selbst habe ich in HDR Efex bearbeitet, anschließend für das gesamte Bild in ON1 einen Bokehfilter angewendet (mit geringer Deckkraft) und als Abschluss in LR die Wärme der Schatten verstärkt und die HSL-Regler für Grün, Rot und Magenta angepasst.

Another day, another cookie. But something was different this morning. Sid didn't wake up with his usual ravenous craving for breakfast cookies (which would be followed by lunch, snack, dinner, and night snack cookies). He woke up with pangs of conscience. Was it right what he was doing? Eating cookies, cookies cookies? When he had taken a look at himself in the mirror the other day, he all of a sudden had a Dejá Vu. A cookie Dejá Vu. Oh dear, he felt panic rising. Was it possible that... he? Sid? Was... a cookie, too?!? He looked at the delicious-looking chocolate chip cookie right in front of him. "Hel...lo?", he asked with a quivering voice. "Can... can you hear me?" A somewhat deafening silence answered him. Next, he heard a familiar grumbling coming from below. And it was more than the usual "Me hungry, where are me cookies?" grumbling. This time, the grumbling in his stomach spoke to him. "Sid, Sid, Sid," it said. "You moron! You aren't a cookie, you are a macaroon. Ma-ca-roon. A fabulous Italian Brutti ma Buoni. Made with nocciole italiane. You are Sid. You are special. Capiche?" Sid sighed. A huge weight was lifted from his mind. "I'm Italian?", he asked in bewilderment. A big smile appeared on his face. "Wow! I must tell Grover, Kermit, and all the others when they come over for my birthday cookie party. I'm so proud!" And with an earsplitting growl of "Coooookkkieeees, Me Eeeeeat!!!!" he dug into his favourite type of cookie, the chocolate chip cookie right in front of him – and the world's shortest existential crisis ever had dissolved into thin air. Or rather: into crumbles.

Unbeknownst to Sid, however, Brutti ma Buoni (which means "ugly but good") are very much classified as biscuits. Just like the more obvious choice, the quinoa chocolate chip cookie on the small wooden fork. And both are delicious ;) Btw, did you know that the Cookie Monster has a name? Well, he does, and it is Sid. A fact that I learned when I did some research to refresh my Sesame Street knowledge. The Cookie Monster revealed his name as late as 2004, long after my own Sesame Street days, so I'm not surprised I didn't know ;)

Ingredients: an Italian hazelnut macaron, dyed blue with food colour, and adorned with modeling clay eyes, a chocolate chip cookie, a wooden fork (from an instant noodle bowl), a wooden drip mat, black foam sheet as backdrop, soft light from above. This is my test shot, a single photo taken in shadow priority mode. The width of the frame is 6,5 cm / 2,5 inches. It's not the technically most brilliant capture, but I somehow liked it even with all its shortcomings, so I decided to keep it short and simple this time. In fact, doing the write-up took much longer than taking the photo ;)

Das Krümelmonster in einer Sinnkrise

Was wäre wenn... das Krümelmonster selbst ein Keks wäre? Das würde gewiss im ersten Moment der Selbsterkenntnis eine echte Sinnkrise in ihm auslösen (s. englischen Text oben). Wer aber das Krümelmonster kennt, und ich gehe mal davon aus, dass das die meisten von uns tun, weiß auch um seinen unstillbaren Hunger auf alles Krümelige ;) Vielleicht würde es sogar im ersten Moment darüber nachdenken, auf Gemüse umzusteigen – sobald es dann aber den ersten Keks zu Gesicht bekäme, würde es keinen Moment zögern und sich mit dem wohlbekannten, ohrenbetäubenden Schrei "Keeeeeekse!!!" darauf stürzen. Oder? Ich würde darauf wetten. Im echten Leben war es dann aber natürlich ich, die beide im Bild zu sehenden Gebäckstücke verspeist hat. Mit Genuss, denn sowohl das Krümelmonster in Gestalt eines mit Lebensmittelfarbe und Knetaugen (die ich vor dem Verzehr natürlich entfernt habe) präparierten "Brutti ma Buoni" ("hässlich, aber gut" – und das sind diese italienischen Haselnuss-Makronen) als auch sein bedauernswertes Opfer, ein Quinoa-Kakao-Keks mit Schokostückchen (übrigens des Krümelmonsters Lieblingskeks, was die Annahme, es könnte sich zum Vegeatrier wandeln, noch unwahrscheinlicher macht), haben nach "Mehr" geschmeckt. Dabei bin ich eigentlich gar kein Süßschnabel :)

This is the penultimate picture from my trip to Slovenia last year. The final phjoto will come tomorrow. At some point it has to come to an end.

This shot here is from Vintag Gorge in Triglav National Park, a beautiful place worth visiting in any weather. I had pouring rain. So I can judge that quite well.

The only drawback here is that the paths are all very narrow and as a photographer with a tripod you are actually constantly in someone's way. That doesn't make it any easier to concentrate on the composition.

Das ist das vorletzte Bild von meiner Reise nach Slowenien im letzten Jahr. Morgen kommt dann der Abschluß. Irgendwann muss es ja mal ein Ende haben.

Diese Aufnahme hier stammt von der Vintag Schlucht im Triglav Nationalpark, einem wunderschönen Ort der bei jedem Wetter einen Besuch wert ist. Bei mir war ströhmender Regen. Ich kann das also ganz gut beurteilen.

Das einzige Manko hier ist, dass die Wege alle sehr schmal sind und man somit als Fotograf mit Stativ eigentlich ständig jemandem im Weg steht. Das macht es nicht gerade einfacher sich auf die Komposition zu konzentrieren.

Der Abendhimmel heute war interessant. Als die Sonne unterging, wurden in der entgegengesetzten Richtung die Wolken teilweise violett und rosa dargestellt. Das dauerte eine geraume Zeit an und hat mich inspiriert, hier einige Fotos zu machen. Die Temperaturen an diesem Abend waren eher kühl und eigentlich keine Spur von Sommer mehr. Die rosarote Färbung der Wolken aber entlohnten mich. Ich wünsche allen ein schönes kommendes Wochenende und bis bald. Vielen Dank fürs Anschauen meines Fotostreames.

The evening sky today was interesting. When the sun went down, the clouds in the opposite direction were partially purple and pink. It took a long time and inspired me to take some pictures here. The temperatures on this evening were rather cool and actually no trace of summer. The pink color of the clouds, however, rewarded me. I wish you all a nice weekend and see you soon. Eigentlich in meiner Nähe, dennoch war das Neue Rathaus in Hannover nach zwei Tagen Dauerschneefall nur schwer zu erreichen. Die Strassen sind gerade wieder halbwegs frei, aber Parkplätze und Radwege sind zur Zeit unbenutzbar. So ergab sich ein schöner Fußmarsch durch das verschneite Hannover in den Maschpark. Zum Ende der Blauen Stunde gelang mir dann diese winterliche Aufnahme.

Actually close to me, yet the New Town Hall in Hannover was hard to reach after two days of continuous snowfall. The roads are just halfway clear again, but parking lots and bike paths are currently impassable. So I had a nice walk through the snowy Hannover to the Maschpark. At the end of the Blue Hour, I managed to get this shot.

The "crown" is actually a suspension for picture frames. The suspension is about 5 cm wide and has a small hole on both sides to be attached with two small nails to the back of the picture frame. Curved around a crown, however, I like it much better.

Die "Krone" ist eigentlich eine Aufhängung für Bilderrahmen. Die Aufhängung ca. 5 cm breit und hat an beiden Seiten ein kleines Loch, um mit zwei kleinen Nägeln an der Rückseite des Bilderrahmens befestigt werden zu können. Rund zu einer Krone gebogen gefällt sie mir jedoch wesentlich besser.

I love being alone in places that are usually crowded with tourists. You have to be there at unusual times and then have a little bit of luck.

That's what I had this morning while hiking up the high Snow-Mountain (which lives up to its name) in Bohemian Switzerland. The only footprints in the fresh snow were mine and a fox, which I followed most of the time.

The snow, fog and frosted trees were an amazing combination. Actually, I could have photographed every single tree. Because each one of them was a work of art.

In the end, however, I was satisfied with a few, most of which you will see here later.

Ich liebe es allein an Plätzen zu sein, an denen sich normalerweise die Touristen nur so tummeln. Dafür muss man zu ungewöhnlichen Zeiten vor Ort sein und dann noch ein wenig Glück haben.

Das hatte ich heute morgen, als ich oben auf dem Hohen Schneeberg (der seinem Namen alle Ehre gemacht hat) in der Böhmischen Schweiz unterwegs war. Die einzigen Fußabdrücke im frischen Schnee waren von mir und von einem Fuchs, dessen Spur ich die meiste Zeit gefolgt bin.

Der Schnee, der Nebel und die gefrosteten Bäume waren eine überwältigende Kombination. Ich hätte eigentlich jeden einzelnen Baum fotografieren können. Denn jeder von denen war ein Kunstwerk.

Schlußendlich habe ich mich jedoch mit einigen wenigen begnügt von denen Ihr die meisten hier noch sehen werdet.

A short business trip to Rostock gave me the opportunity to go to Nienhagen for one evening and pay a short visit to the Baltic Sea.

Actually, my goal was the forest on the coast here, which I wasn't too enthusiastic about, because unfortunately the tracks of the tourists can be seen too clearly there. And so I only managed to get one photo there that is worth showing. After an hour of wandering back and forth between the trees, I retreated to the beach to relax and wait for the sunset.

Things didn't go quite as well here either, because shortly after this photo the gap in the clouds closed and the sun had largely disappeared.

Nevertheless, I am very happy about this photo and above all about the three hours that I spent here in nature.

Eine kurze Dienstreise nach Rostock hat mir die Möglichkeit verschafft einen Abend nach Nienhagen zu fahren und der Ostsee einen kurzen Besuch abzustatten.

Eigentlich war mein Ziel der Wald an der Küste hier, von dem ich allerding nicht so begeistert war, da dort die Spuren der Touristen leider zu deutlich zu sehen sind. Und so habe ich dort nur ein Foto hinbekommen, welches es wert ist gezeigt zu werden. Nachdem ich eine Stunde lang kreuz und quer zwischen den Bäumen hin und her gewandert bin habe ich mich dann an den Strand zurück gezogen um dort ganz enstpannt auf den Sonnenuntergang zu warten.

Auch hier lief es nicht ganz optimal, denn kurz nach diesem Foto schloss sich diese Lücke in den Wolken und die Sonne war weitestgehend verschwunden.

Nichts desto trotz freue ich mich sehr über diese Aufnahme und vor allem über die drei Stunden, die ich hier in der Natur verbracht habe.

In fact I went to that place because I was captured by that beautiful tree silhouette in the fog from the distance already. Just when I came closer, I realized the difference between the field and the meadow. It seems that the meadow, even in deep winter, is emitting some kind of heat, strong enough to let the snow melt. I'm quite sure that the snow was not differentiating while falling down. The field, made by humans, even if there are growing plants too, is not able to spend that energy. Spontaneously it’s bringing me to some philosophical thoughts.

Eigentlich war ich an dieser Stelle, weil mir die wunderschöne Silhouette des Baumes im Nebel schon von Weitem aufgefallen ist. Erst als ich näher kam ist mir dieser Unterschied zwischen dem Feld und der Wiese aufgefallen. Es scheint, als ob die Wiese, selbst im tiefsten Winter, Wärme abstrahlt und so den Schnee zum Schmelzen bringt. Ich gehe mal fest davon aus, dass der Schnee beim herunterfallen diese Unterscheidung nicht gemacht hat. Das von Menschen angelegte Feld, auch wenn dort ebenfalls Pflanzen wachen, bringt diese Energie nicht auf. Das bringt mich spontan auf philosophische Gedanken.

Am Abend eines heissen Sommertages sitzt Pedro gerne auf der alten Bank und geniesst eine Berliner Weisse (von der er überzeugt ist, dass es eigentlich eine BÄRliner Weisse sein müsste) mit Schuss.

On the evening of a hot summer day, Pedro loves to sit on the old bench and enjoy a Berlin White "Berliner Weisse" (of which he is convinced that it should actually be a BEARlin White) with shot.

(Note: «Berliner Weisse» is a (pretty sour) specialty beer from Berlin which is usually enjoyed with a shot of raspberry or woodruff syrup.)

Momentan kann sich das Wetter nicht richtig entscheiden. Letztes Wochenende war noch ein Hauch von Schnee, die Sonne läßt sich momentan nicht richtig sehen, viel Nebel. Eigentlich schaut man Richtung Sonnenaufgang, doch die hatte keine Chance bei dem Nebel.

At the moment, the weather can not really decide. Last weekend was still a touch of snow, the sun can not really be seen at the moment, a lot of fog. Actually, you look in the direction of sunrise, but it had no chance in the fog.

That was my first real contact with Tuscany. The first time I got off the freeway, got out and took in the scenery for a while.

I wasn't where I wanted to be (my sat nav must have fooled me). With a difference of 130 km I wasn't even close. I would then be able to cover this distance later and only arrive in the dark.

It was very hazy (there's even a fire burning in the background) and the lighting was terrible.

Nevertheless, I had to take a picture because I was still overwhelmed. And my first thought when I saw these vineyards and the olive grove was: "How I would like to live here".

And even if this shot didn't turn out optimally (which I didn't expect either), you can perhaps guess what else I got to see in the course of the coming week.

Das war mein erster wirklicher Kontakt zur Toskana. Das erste Mal, das ich von der Autobahn runter war, ausgestiegen bin und die Landschaft für eine Weile auf mich wirken lassen konnte.

Ich war nicht an der Stelle, zu der ich eigentlich wollte (mein Navi hatte mich wohl irgendwie verarscht). Mit 130 km Differenz war ich nicht einmal nah dran. Die würde ich dann später noch zurücklegen und erst im Dunkeln ankommen.

Es war sehr dunstig (im Hintergrund brennt sogar ein Feuer) und die Lichtverhältnisse waren grausam.

Trotzdem musste ich ein Foto machen, denn ich war trotzdem überwältigt. Und mein erster Gedanke, als ich diese Weinfelder und den Olivenwald gesehen habe war: "Wie gern würde ich hier leben".

Und auch wenn diese Aufnahme nicht optimal geworden ist (was ich auch nicht erwartet hatte), so könnt Ihr vielleicht erahnen, was ich in den kommenden Tagen noch zu sehen bekommen habe.

You can't make a hike through the Allgäu Alps without seeing ore at least hearing them, the typical brown cows with their large bells on their neck. They are belonging to this area like the mountains. The sound of this bells is following You all day long. This young lady was escorting me for a distance of some hundred meters and was provoking a spntanious shooting that way.

Du kannst keine Wanderung durch die Allgäuer Alpen machen ohne sie zu sehen oder zumindest zu hören, die typischen braunen Kühe mit Ihren großen Glocken um den Hals. Sie gehören zu dieser Gegend wie die Berge. Der Klang Ihrer Glocken begleitet Dich eigentlich den ganzen Tag. Diese junge Dame hier ist mir hartnäckig mehrere 100 Meter gefolgt und hat mich so zu einem spontanen Shooting provoziert.

Well, not exactly, but I'd indeed hoped that I could get them into the frame - and I did ;-) If you zoom in on the roof of the lower building you can see that there was a bird gathering (doves, I think) with quite a lot coming and leaving going on, and the three on the left (which are common swifts, as I know now, thank you BrigitteE1!) apparently were the late arrivals, or maybe they were on their way to their very own common swift party :-).

View of the German Cathedral (Deutscher Dom) on Gendarmenmarkt which is regarded as Berlin's most beautiful square. The German Cathedral belongs to a buiding ensemble that also consists of the Konzerthaus (Berlin Concert Hall) at the center of the square and the German Cathedral's "twin", the French Cathedral. The twin buildings flank the Konzerthaus, and neither the German nor the French Cathedral are church buildings in the proper sense - actually they are mere towers, and the name "Dom" (which also stands for cathedral) is actually derived from the French term dôme for cupola. The two towers once were complementary buildings to the adjacent New Church (German Cathedral) which was a Calvinist and Lutheran Simultaneum, and the French Church of Friedrichstadt (French Cathedral) which served as a church for the Hugenots that had found a new home in what then was Prussia under the reign of Frederick the Great.

This is the first image of a mini series that I will post this week. Next will be a capture taken inside of the tower, also photographed with my LX100, and I think on Sliders Sunday you will see a slightly more adventurously processed image also taken inside the German Cathedral (and shot with my Olympus). Actually this one was meant to be for Sliders Sunday, too, I have a version of this image replete with textures and other slightly more extreme slider work, but I didn't get around to post it last Sunday, so, since it's Tuesday,

I'll show you this newly and more conventionally edited version first. At first I thought about removing the treetop in the lower left corner with the clone stamp, but then decided against it, because I think it helps to "ground" this capture which otherwise has the strange effect as if that building was hovering up in the sky - just my impression, probably, but I decided to mention it in case you wondered about that bit of treetop in the left corner. Maybe I'll also post the other version later this year just for fun - and on a Sunday, of course :-)

Blick auf den Deutschen Dom am Gendarmenmarkt, der wegen seines besonderen Gebäudeensembles mit dem Konzerthaus in der Mitte, zu beiden Seiten flankiert von den architektonischen Zwillingen Deutscher und Französischer Dom, auch als Berlins schönster Platz bezeichnet wird. Die Aufnahme habe ich von der Außenseite des Platzes (an der Charlottenstraße) gemacht. Ich wollte auch unbedingt die drei Vögel (Mausersegler - Danke, BrigitteE1!) links mit im Bild haben, die offenbar die Spätankömmlinge der kleinen Vogelversammlung (Tauben, denke ich) auf dem Dach des Rundbaus vor dem Turm waren (oder vermutlich auf dem Weg zu ihrer eigenen Mauersegler-Party) - wenn Ihr ins Bild hineinzoomt, könnt Ihr dort die kleine Vogel-Party sehen.

Dies ist das erste Foto einer Miniserie, die ich diese Woche zeigen werde; als Nächstes folgt eine Innenansicht des Turms, auch mit meiner Lumix LX100 fotografiert, und dann, als (vorläufiger) Abschluss eine weitere Innenansicht - fotografiert mit meiner Olympus EM5II und aufbereitet für den Sliders Sunday. Eigentlich war schon dieses Foto für den Sliders Sunday gedacht, allerdings in einer anderen Version mit Texturen und viel stärkerer Bearbeitung; da ich es letzten Sonntag aber zeitlich nicht geschafft habe, seht Ihr nun zuerst diese konventioneller bearbeitete Version. Die Sliders-Sunday-Version lade ich vielleicht später mal hoch; ich habe ja auch noch andere Fotos von diesem Spontanbesuch des Deutschen Doms.

Eigentlich wollte ich das Bild etwas anders gestalten, aber dann fing auf einmal meine Taschenlampe an zu flackern und es kam dieser interessante Effekt dabei heraus.

Actually I wanted to make the picture a little different, but then my flashlight suddenly started to flicker and this interesting effect came out. HSoS! :-)

Actually there was the sunrise expected on the right side of that frame 30 minutes ago. The weatherforecast wrote that there would be a cloud cover of 30 % of the sky, so it shouldn't be a problem. But if these 30 % building a massiv wall on the wrong place I’ll keep trapped in the dawning for a while. Nature is what is happening, while I'm having different plans.

Eigentlich sollte vor ungefähr 30 Minuten auf der rechten Seite die Sonne aufgegangen sein. Der Wetterbereicht hat von 30 %iger Wolkenabdeckung des Himmels gesprochen, eigentlich kein Problem. Wenn sich allerdings diese 30 % wie ein massive Wand genau an der falschen Stelle auftürmen bleib ich noch ne Weile in der Morgendämmerung gefangen. Natur ist eben das was passiert, während ich andere Pläne mache.

The bastei bridge, in the Elbe Sandstone Mountains, is cutting quite a figure to any time of the day or of the year and from any point of view. So it's hardly surprising that so many tourists are coming up here. Only to think about, by what technologies it had to be built in 1850 I'm very impressed. For that shot, I decided very spontaneously, when I explored the surroundings after a sunrise shoot. Actually, this perspective is more suitable for sunsets. I'm going to try to add that this year.

Die Bastei Brücke im Elbsandsteingebirge macht wirklich zu jeder Tages- und Jahreszeit und aus jedem Blickwinkel eine tolle Figur. Kein Wunder, dass es so viele Touristen hier her zieht. Allein der Gedanke, mit welchen Mitteln dieses Bauwerk 1850 erstellt werden musste beeindruckt mich sehr. Zu diesem Foto hab ich mich spontan entschieden, als ich die Gegend nach einem Shooting bei Sonnenaufgang noch etwas erkundet habe. Eigentlich ist die Blickrichtung besser für Sonnenuntergänge geeignet. Das werde ich versuchen dieses Jahr zu ergänzen.

Do You know that, when You are fixated on something so much, that You are forgetting things, You actually can't forget ? This is what happend to me on my way back to the car when I passed that beautiful scenery. I knew, that I had to take the upper path, I passed that spot quite some times already. Still the picture of this junction in the deep snow was fascinating me so much that I, after I finished that photo, without even thinking about it, took the other one. I needed more that 20 minutes to realice my mistake and turn around. I was on my feet for some hours already that morning so these few more minutes didn't matter.

Kennt Ihr das, wenn Ihr so auf etwas fixiert seid, dass Ihr Dinge vergesst, die Ihr eigentlich nicht vergessen könnt ? So ging es mir an dieser Stelle, auf dem Weg zurück zu meinem Auto, als ich an dieser wunderschönen Szene vorbei gekommen bin. Ich wusste, dass ich den oberen Weg gehen muss, ich bin hier schon etliche Male vorbei gekommen. Doch der Anblick dieser Weggabelung im tiefen Schnee hat mich so begeistert, dass ich, nachdem ich mein Foto fertig hatte, ohne darüber nachzudenken, den unteren genommen habe. Es dauerte mindestens 20 Minuten, bis ich diesen Fehler realisiert hatte und wieder umgekehrt bin. Da ich an diesem Morgen bereits ein paar Stunden unterwegs war kam es auf die paar Minuten dann auch nicht mehr an.

Es war eigentlich nicht Nebelig an diesem Morgen, nur in den Flusstälern stand an einigen Stellen der Bodennebel, wie hier über Rockenhausen.

It was actually not foggy this morning, only in the river valleys there was ground fog in some places, like here over Rockenhausen.

Eigentlich wollten wir Würfelnattern am Ufer der Nahe fotografieren. Da fand mein Freund diesen kleinen Pelophylax am Ufer. Er posierte lange genug für einige Porträts.

Or maybe a whale that somebody tickled and now it can't stop laughing? I really don't know, I see both :-) And what suspiciously looks like oil on water (or water droplets on oil) really is glass. You can see the glass texture very well when you take a closer look at the laughing mouth / tickled whale's body. In reality this is a detail of a vase made of clear glass, and there is a decorative streak of glass bubbles going around the vase's "belly" like the rings of Saturn.

Another late entry and photo taken on Macro Monday, because yesterday my brain had turned all glassy at the many options, and in the end I had blocked myself ;-) So I'll keep the technical description short: The size of the smiley face / laughing whale is 2,4 cm / 0,94 inches. I've used two LED lamps as light sources, one (from the left) pointed at a gold-coloured piece of cardboard (from a box of chocolates) for some warm, reflected light, the other (from the right, pointed directly at the vase) adorned with a red, transparent plastic part of another chocolates box (heck, I must give the impression of eating chocolate all the time, I can assure you this is not the case!) for some reddish light accents. Processed in Aurora HDR (where I enhanced the microstructure to bring out the glass textures), in ON1 (soft HDR Glow and Dynamic Contrast) and Analog Efex (Vignette).

Ein gläsernes Lachen? Oder vielleicht doch ein Wal, den man so lange gekitzelt hat, dass er mit dem Lachen nicht mehr aufhören kann? Ich sehe durchaus beides ;-) Was hier fast wie Öl auf Wasser (oder auch Wassertropfen auf Öl) aussieht, ist eigentlich ein Detail einer Vase aus klarem, ungefärbtem Glas, die um ihre bauchige Mitte herum mit einem dekorativen Streifen aus Glasbläschen unterschiedlichster Form und Größe verziert ist, ähnlich wie die Ringe des Saturns. Diese Fisch-förmige Blase mit Augen und Stupsnase darüber lachte mich heute förmlich an, als ich mich doch noch einmal auf die Suche nach einem geegneten Motiv begeben hatte. Gestern hatten mich die vielfältigen Möglichkeiten schier erschlagen, sodass ich mich am Ende mal wieder selbst blockiert hatte.

Zum Technischen: Beleuchtet habe ich die Vase einmal mit indirektem, reflektiertem Licht von links (LED-Strahler, gerichtet auf ein glänzend-golden bedrucktes Pappunterteil einer Pralinenbox) und von rechts (direkt auf die Vase) mit einem 2. LED-Strahler, vor den ich das rot-transparente Plastikunterteil einer anderen Pralinenschachtel gestellt hatte (das sieht jetzt sehr danach aus, als ob ich ständig Schokolade essen würde, ist aber nicht der Fall, wirklich nicht). Das fertige Bild ist ein Fokus-Stack, zusammengefügt in Helicon Focus, und dann in Aurora HDR (für bessere Mikrostruktur bei der Glastextur, damit man auch sieht, dass es wirklich Glas ist), ON1 (HDR Glow und Dynamischer Kontrast) und Analog Efex (Vignette) bearbeitet.

An azure sky with small fluffy clouds is reflected in the water of the Vltava against the magnificent backdrop of the golden city of Prague. There is no better way to start an ascent to this beautiful city.

The photo was taken on a short tour, which was actually only intended to check out the situation. But that single cloud directly above Prague Castle made sure I could'nt walk past it.

Ein azurblauer Himmel mit kleinen Schäfchenwolken spiegelt sich im Wasser der Moldau vor der grandiosen Kulisse der goldenen Stadt Prag. Besser kann ein Ausflug in diese wunderschöne Stadt nicht beginnen.

Das Foto entstand auf einem kurzen Rundgang, der eigentlich nur zur Sondierung der Lage gedacht war. Doch diese eine Wolke direkt über der Prager Burg sorgte dafür, dass ich daran nicht vorbei gehen konnte.

This is the base of a green glass bottle that once contained white wine and now is a vase. I often keep beautiful bottles, big or small, just because they look nice. I use them as decorative objects, as colour filters for tabletop photography, or as vases. And when I saw this bottle, I bought it specifically because it looked so nice (hoping that the content would be nice as well – it was), and with the intention of turning it into a vase. There's a glasser around my corner who has cut off the necks of quite a few bottles for me, as the DIY methods you can find on YouTube seemed too unsafe for me to do it myself. When I turned the bottle upside down, I noticed the really interesting-looking circular pattern at the base consisting of many tiny indendations. I've experimented with light from different positions, and backlit (with a hint of red light slightly from the front / above) brought out the patterns best.

There's also a bit of an optical illusion here, because the whole bottle base is convex (as to be expected), and the circle at the centre is a convex shape of its own, even though in the final image it looks concave, sort of bulging. And with those two extra, almost V-shaped indentations at the centre it reminded me of a reptile's eye staring right at me ;)

The "V" shape at the centre is 0,5 cm / 0,19 inches long, and the circle itself has a diameter of 2,5 cm / 0,98 inches. It's a single shot processed in DXO PhotoLab 5, with further tweaks in Analog Efex (vignette, Vintage Camera 5), and in Color Efex (Brilliance & Warmth, Detail Extractor, Photo Stylizer).

Schau mir in die Augen, Kleines? Nun, warum nicht. Denn weder hat Humphrey Bogart das tatsächlich so gesagt noch ist Kaa böse, obwohl er in den Disney-Verfilmungen des Dschungelbuchs so dargestellt wird. Und eigentlich ist das der sehr harmlose Flaschenboden einer ehemaligen Weißweinflasche, die nun als Vase fungiert. Ich hebe oft schöne Flaschen auf, egal welcher Größe, die ich als Deko-Objekt, als Vase oder auch manchmal als Farbfilter für Fotos verwende. Bei dieser besonders schönen Flasche, die ich schon mit dem Gedanken, daraus eine Vase zu machen, gekauft hatte, hat mir der Glaser um die Ecke den Flaschenhals abgeschnitten, damit ein ganzer Strauß Blumen darin Platz findet und nicht nur eine einzelne Blume. Ich weiß, dass es auf YouTube jede Menge DIY-Anleitungen gibt, die mir aber alle zu unsicher sind, um das selbst zu machen. Jetzt habe ich beim großen Fluss aber DIY-Sets entdeckt, die ich mir mal genauer ansehen werde ;)

Die Flasche an sich hätte für ein Makro nicht viel hergegeben, als ich sie aber umdrehte, fiel mir am nach innen gewölbten Boden ein interessantes kreisförmiges Muster, bestehend aus vielen winzigen Einkerbungen, auf. Und das habe ich mir dann durch das Makroobjektiv mal genauer angesehen. Das Resultat erinnert mich ein wenig an ein Reptilienauge, besonders mit den beiden länglichen (vorgewölbten) Einkerbungen in der Mitte. Dass der innere Kreis nochmals deutlich nach innen gewölbt ist, aber wie ein Auge konkav wirkt, ist eine optische Täuschung (wie sie bei solchen Formen häufig vorkommt, finde ich). Das Foto ist eine Einzelaufnahme, hauptsächlich von hinten beleuchtet, mit etwas rotem Licht leicht von vorne / oben für extra Akzente.

Last minute idea and entry for the "Flame" theme. I actually wanted to skip, but then remembered that pair of "kaleidoscope glasses" once bought as a gimmick at a museum. This must be the quickest MM shot I've ever taken. From taking the photo, some ultra-fast processing in Topaz Sharpen AI and ON1 Photo RAW to the upload in 39 minutes ;-) I wish it could always be that uncomplicated ;-)

This is one single tealight which I'd placed in front of a mirror and then photographed it through the above mentioned pair of faceted glasses.

Idee und Foto in allerletzter Minute für das MM-Thema "Flame". Ich hatte eigentlich gestern beschlossen, nicht teilzunehmen, aber dann fiel mir heute die Kaleidoskop-Brille ein, die ich mal aus Spaß in einem Museum gekauft hatte. Also ganz schnell das Teelicht, an dem ich mich gestern so vergeblich abgemüht hatte, angezündet (vor einen Spiegel gestellt), Kamera auf's Tischstativ, eines der facettierten Gläser zwischen Flamme und Objektiv gehalten, auf den Auslöser gedrückt - fertig.

Wenn es doch immer so flott und unkompliziert ginge. Dieses ist das schnellste MM-Foto, das ich je gemacht habe, 39 Minuten von der Aufnahme über ein schnelles Bearbeiten in Topaz Sharpen AI und ON1 Photo bis zum Hochladen, das ist ein persönlicher Rekord ;-)

A scene inside of the Königsbrück Heather. I really love the forest and how I realised again in the last days I love forests during the winter even more. Every time its like being in a fairytale. I remember the movies I've watched when I was a child, russian fairytales, what were often playing in surroundings like this. I can't wait to do another journey here this week. So you will see more of this kind of photos than I planned.

Eine Szene in der Königsbrücker Heide. Ich liebe den Wald und wie ich in den letzten Tagen wieder einmal feststelle, liebe ich den Wald im Winter ganz besonders. Es ist jedesmal wie im Märchen. Ich erinnere mich an die Filme meiner Kindheit, russische Märchenfilme, die häufig in einer solchen Kulisse gedreht wurden. Ich kann es kaum erwarten diese Woche wieder einen Streifzug hierher zu unternehmen. Ihr werdet also weit mehr solcher Fotos zu sehen bekommen, als ich eigentlich geplant hatte.

We already had poppies and cornflowers this week. Thanks to my business trip to Rostock, I can now present you both together.

On the way there I saw large poppy fields on both sides of the autobahn. Luckily I remembered it on the way back. Of course I couldn't wait for the light to soften, after all I wanted to go back home and five hours of driving is already long enough. But I absolutely had to get off the freeway and see it up close. I ended up continuing my ride with two more photos. This is one of them.

Yes, the picture looks pretty messy, but I'm totally fine with that. Because actually it's all about the colors and not about individual details. It works for me. And with you ?

Wie hatten in dieser Woche bereits Mohn- und Kornblumen. Dank meiner Dienstreise nach Rostock kann ich Euch nun auch beide gemeinsam präsentieren.

Schon auf den Hinweg habe ich auf beiden Seiten der Autobahn große Mohnfelder gesehen. Auf dem Rückweg habe ich mich dann glücklicherweise wieder daran erinnert. Natürlich konnte ich nicht warten, bis das Licht weicher wird, schließlich wollte ich wieder nach Hause und fünf Stunden Fahrt sind auch so schon lange genug. Doch ich musste unbedingt von der Autobahn runter und mir dass aus der Nähe ansehen. Am Ende habe ich meine Fahrt mit zwei Fotos mehr fortgesetzt. Das ist eins davon.

Ja, das Bild sieht schon ziemlich chaotisch aus, doch das ist für mich vollkommen ok. Denn eigentlich kommt es hier nur auf die Farben an und nicht auf einzelne Details. Bei mir funktioniert es. Und bei Euch ?

It is of a simple elegance and gets little attention in this stadium, today's guest in the series "hidden beauties".

We classify it as a vegetable, but it is actually a berry, more like a fruit. However, it does not belong entirely to the fruit, because this is perennial, which does not apply to our guest. So it stands somewhere in between, which is why its category is also called fruit-vegetables.

It actually comes from South America and was probably brought to Europe personally by the famous Christopher Columbus. Your name is based on the designation that the Aztheca gave them back then, xītomatl. Today we just call them tomatoes.

Sie ist von einer schlichten Eleganz und bekommt in diesem Zustand eher wenig Beachtung geschenkt, unser heutiger Gast in der Reihe "versteckte Schönheiten".

Wir rechnen sie dem Gemüse zu, doch eigentlich ist sie eine Beere, also eher Obst. Ganz zum Obst gehört sie jedoch trotzdem nicht, denn dieses ist mehrjährig, was auf unseren Gast nicht zutrifft. Sie steht also irgendwo dazwischen darum nennt man ihre Kathegorie auch Fruchtgemüse.

Sie kommt eigentlich aus Südamerika und wurde wahrscheinlich vom berühmten Christopher Kolumbus persönlich nach Europa gebracht. Als Vorlage für Ihren Namen dient die Bezeichnung, die ihr damals die Aztheken gegeben haben, xītomatl. Heute nennen wir sie einfach Tomaten.
