I took this photo with this exact effect in mind. It just seemed to fit perfectly.

The most important part of Aggregate Demand is Consumption. However consumers do not spend all their income- some is saved. National income can therefore be represented by the equation Y=C+S. As incomes rise so does consumption BUT savings also increase as a proportion of income.
A mans income rises by £100- He spends £80 and saves £20. This first retailer sees his income rise by £80- He spends £64 and saves £16. The second retailer sees his income rise by £64- He spends £41 and saves £10. The third retailer sees income rise by £51.
So in the above example an additional income of £100 causes a rise in spending of £226 after only 4 transactions!

A phenom if ever there was one, Maurice Brown had people buzzing about his chops while he was still attending Hillcrest High School in Country Club Hills. In short order, he won a full music scholarship to Northern Illinois University, took top prize in the Miles Davis Trumpet Competition and established himself as a force to be reckoned with on the Chicago music scene. He was featured on recordings by Ernest Dawkins’ New Horizons Ensemble and Fred Anderson.
In equally short order, it seemed, he was gone. After studying with Louisiana legend Alvin Batiste at Southern University in Baton Rouge, he asserted himself in New Orleans, where he mixed it up with top local players, scored a weekly gig at the Snug Harbor jazz club and recorded his first album, Hip to Bop. Think of hard bop monsters Freddie Hubbard and Lee Morgan dipping into contemporary grooves, personalizing the sound with “wah wah” effects and such, and you’ll have a hint of what a blast of fresh air Brown was.
The next leg of his journey was set in motion by Hurricane Katrina, which he escaped with little more than his horn and his laptop. As captured in the documentary, Brass Movement: A Modern Love Story, he landed on his feet, and then some, in New York, where his talents were demanded by such artists as Aretha Franklin, Roy Hargrove, Talib Kweli, Diddy, Cee-Lo Green and rising Irish soul singer Laura Izibor. Whatever he’s playing, he creates instant excitement. A group with its own strong personality, the Maurice Brown Effect includes New Orleans saxophonist Derek Douget, pianist (and Chicago native) Chris Rob, bassist Solomon Dorsey and drummer Joe Blaxx.

Started with a color image, converted with cartoon filter on the "POP ART MACHINE" website. Tweaked it in "PS" and then converted it to vectors in "Vector Magic". Finished it with a "PS" ripple effect filter.

Experiencing with my new camera at night. I got a shot that i thought was making a pretty interesting electricity blackout effect.
Orton Effect: I like the original just fine. This just gives a different perspective of the little guy, softer, yet bolder. The original was nature, this is a little more artistic.

What? You think some Flickr members have too much free time on their hands? Naaaah...
When I saw the Transparent Screens pool I couldn't resist. Here's what you do: 1) Place your camera on a tripod, 2) Remove the monitor (or close your laptop) and snap a picture, 3) Place the monitor (or open the laptop) and take another picture, 4) Open in Photoshop and select the screen area from the second picture, 5) Transfer the selection to the first picture, cut, create a new image, and distort it to make the trapezoidal selection rectangular, 6) Save the resulting image and use it as a Windows wallpaper, 7) Take the picture again taking care to align the screen image with the background (should match if you haven't moved the monitor nor the camera).
Next time I'll avoid using flash, and try to set up a multi-monitor system and maybe even throw in some paper printouts. A cool effect would be to fix focus on the screen so the background is blurry, and then put that blurry background as a wallpaper, so it contrasts with the perfectly focused screen icons (and maybe the Vista sidebar)...

It is exciting to be in the new De Young; makes you feel proud to be a San Franciscan and a Californian. The last times I felt this way was when the UC Berkeley Art Museum** opened, and- again- when the Oakland Museum*** opened.
One of the fine ideas of this De Young complex is that- though you can pay, as usual, to see the exhibits- there is free access to alot of the building- including views from the tower. This is my idea of a 'San Francisco value'.

I was involved in the opening ceremonies of the Museum. Part of it was a silly saloon drama set up by painters, Bill Wiley, Bob Hudson and friends. We wore cowboy suits and I sang "The Impossible Dream".

*** The Oakland Museum of California (1971) stands out for its architectural concept: they created three levels like this:

Because the lower levels are longer than the upper, you can have gardens on the exposed roof areas. You can walk from the second floor museum rooms out to a roof garden built on the first floor. On the third floor, you can walk out onto the roof garden above the second floor. This photo gives some idea:

Ann, Marco, Pete and I went here often when we lived in Berkeley. The space was as important to us as the exhibits.
