A depth of field experiment using Russian Dolls.

This doll was a disappointment. His eye screening is, in my opinion, not nicely done and looks best from a distance. Mine also had a pink stain on one of his shoes for some reason

South Coast Plaza Flower Show - Costa Mesa, CA

I love the Droste effect.

The image is repeated over and over within the spiral.

I thought that the orange would make a great subject as it looks like peel.

"Arts installation documenting the life and works of Michael Faraday who was Scientific Advisor to Trinity House and said to have conducted many experiments in the TBW Lighthouse."

To the left of the shed was a warehouse, its inside filled with smoke and cut at top and bottom by two horizontal planes of laser light. I poked my head through the door that was barely ajar, and a man with long white hair told us to come in. We walked through the mist for ages, looking at the light patterns spreading like luminous milk through the coffee darkness. Mannix's pram seemed to be standing wheel-deep in a foggy marsh.

According to the Trinity Buoy Wharf website, this was called Horizon, "An installation of Laser light and paintings by Caroline Cary and Jim Webb in the Electrician's Shop Basement and Chainstore II."

This was the aftermath of a Twister Tornado!

The Twister consists of live special effects demonstration conjuring up an F5 tornado in front of your eyes complete with flying livestock.

(This is NOT real: This is a photo of me at Universal Studios in front of the "Twister" attraction)

This is one of the photos I featured on my blog yesterday which was Freshly Pressed, Wordpress.com's version of Explore, and garnered over 1,000 views.

Funny how just one thing can cause so many other things to happen as a result. It's really crazy when it actually happens to you... and there's nothing you can do about it.

This interesting weekend has been my inspiration for this photo, and I really like how it turned out.

A phenom if ever there was one, Maurice Brown had people buzzing about his chops while he was still attending Hillcrest High School in Country Club Hills. In short order, he won a full music scholarship to Northern Illinois University, took top prize in the Miles Davis Trumpet Competition and established himself as a force to be reckoned with on the Chicago music scene. He was featured on recordings by Ernest Dawkins’ New Horizons Ensemble and Fred Anderson.

In equally short order, it seemed, he was gone. After studying with Louisiana legend Alvin Batiste at Southern University in Baton Rouge, he asserted himself in New Orleans, where he mixed it up with top local players, scored a weekly gig at the Snug Harbor jazz club and recorded his first album, Hip to Bop. Think of hard bop monsters Freddie Hubbard and Lee Morgan dipping into contemporary grooves, personalizing the sound with “wah wah” effects and such, and you’ll have a hint of what a blast of fresh air Brown was.

The next leg of his journey was set in motion by Hurricane Katrina, which he escaped with little more than his horn and his laptop. As captured in the documentary, Brass Movement: A Modern Love Story, he landed on his feet, and then some, in New York, where his talents were demanded by such artists as Aretha Franklin, Roy Hargrove, Talib Kweli, Diddy, Cee-Lo Green and rising Irish soul singer Laura Izibor. Whatever he’s playing, he creates instant excitement. A group with its own strong personality, the Maurice Brown Effect includes New Orleans saxophonist Derek Douget, pianist (and Chicago native) Chris Rob, bassist Solomon Dorsey and drummer Joe Blaxx.
