The lotus effect refers to the very high water repellency (superhydrophobicity) exhibited by the leaves of the lotus flower (Nelumbo). Dirt particles are picked up by water droplets due to a complex micro- and nanoscopic architecture of the surface, which minimizes adhesion.
Here you can see the effect on an Alchemilla which is a genus of herbaceous perennial plants in the Rosaceae, and a popular garden herb with the common name Lady's mantle.

Hier ein schönes Beispiel für den Lotuseffekt (damit ist die geringe Benetzbarkeit einer Oberfläche bezeichnet, wie sie bei der Lotospflanze beobachtet werden kann). Wasser perlt in Tropfen ab und nimmt dabei auch alle Schmutzpartikel auf der Oberfläche mit. Verantwortlich dafür ist eine komplexe mikro- und nanoskopische Architektur der Oberfläche, die die Haftung von Schmutzpartikeln minimiert.
Neben der Lotusblume weisen auch andere Pflanzen, wie beispielsweise die Kapuzinerkresse (Tropaeolum), Schilfrohr (Phragmites), Weißkohl (Brassica oleracea convar. capitata var. alba), Wassersalat (Pistia stratiotes), Frauenmantel (Alchemilla) oder die Akelei (Aquilegia) diese Eigenart auf.
Die Selbstreinigungsfähigkeit wasserabweisender mikro-nanostrukturierter Oberflächen wurde in den 1970er Jahren entdeckt und seit Mitte der 1990er Jahre in biomimetisch-technische Produkte übertragen.
Hier handelt es sich um einen Frauenmantel (Alchemilla), eine Pflanzengattung der Familie der Rosengewächse (Rosaceae), die in Europa, Asien und Afrika verbreitet ist und vorwiegend in den Gebirgen wächst.
Der deutsche Name „Frauenmantel“ bezieht sich übrigens auf die Ähnlichkeit der gefältelten Blätter mit mittelalterlichen Mariendarstellungen.

I shot this photograph while exploring around Lily Lake in Colorado. I was visiting a friend, and we decided to get out of the city for an afternoon. We spent several hours looking around the area. We explored trails, examined lichens, smelled pine needles, and took in the vistas.
I used the Orton effect to enhance the colors and dreamy atmosphere in the colors in the sky and reflected in the water. The Orton effect allows the colors to bleed through hard edges, allowing darker colors to subtly bleed into the sky around the edges and allowing light colors to blend into the darker colors of the mountains and trees. The haze in the sky was from persistent wildfires at the time in the area, about October 2020.

the basic idea: the mini effect shall chance a regular landscape or urban photo into a miniature world impression by adding a blur effect and other detailed adjustments.
after showing you a lot of miniature fakes i made, here i want to present a before-after comparison. so i hope you can see that the manipulation is very intensive!
i want to underline with my manipulation that the lightning effects and color-effects mustn't be forgotten. they are very important to opitmize the impression of the mini-view :)

St Ethelbert, Falkenham, Suffolk
We are out near the end of the lanes of the Deben Peninsula, a far more remote spot than a map might suggest. Falkenham is beyond the edge of Kirton, and as you cycle from the larger village the tower of St Ethelbert appears occasionally over the hedges roof tops ahead, only to disappear as you come close closer, screened as the church is by large trees and the old houses of the village street. This church, which apart from its tower is mainly early 19th Century in appearance, has a delectable setting at the end of the village. The tower dates from the early 15th Century. There is a spectacular array of shields above the west door. The centre shield shows the arms of England, which Mortlock identifies as those first used in 1405. The west window is Victorian, but the bell windows are original.
The nave and chancel were in a bad state of repair by the early 19th Century, and so the remains of the chancel were swept away. The nave was encased in brick which has since been rendered. A peculiar apse was built at the east end, looking odder without than from within. Another unusual feature is the stairway that leads from within the tower arch to what must have been a gallery.
The interior is that of an early Victorian church. The wide nave has a medieval hammerbeam roof, and the reredos appears to have been made from an old Flemish chest.The narrow lancets of 19th Century coloured glass on either side of the sanctuary fill it with glowing light, an almost theatrical effect. All in all a curious building, rather lovely if not particularly dramatic or outstandingly interesting. It is a reminder that every Suffolk church is different, but that some are more different than others.
Beyond the church, beyond the village, there is a view across the Deben estuary to Ramsholt on the far shore, several miles away, the pub and the church and the marshes between, and the low hills beyond.
The effect of yellowing beech leaves, reflected in the tannin stained, murky waters of this small stream would surely be omen enough to lift the spirits of the hopeful prospecter, searching this area for gold.
