We visited Bodie Ghost Town first thing in the morning. The road leading to it was treacherous, but our car made it. When we got there, it started snowing those little alpine snowballs.
One of the first places we visited was clearly a dump for this once-bustling mining town. The only things remaining were decaying cans.
Of course, it made me think how different our dumps will look in 100, 200, 500 years.

Was slightly emotional chucking my ancient Mac. Had it since 1995. I did phone the computer museum up the road but they said they have enough crap beige macs thanks.

This is a 1970s Nissan CK20 dump truck. I drew i from memory, because I used to see it from time to time.

Given the depth of field, these really need to be seen at bigger than screen size, but this will have to do for now.
The last people to stay at our camp left us this lovely present. It appears that someone shit ON this bush.
I was incapacitated with stomach cramps from a bad sandwich when we first got to our camp so I didn't really get to take a look around. When I finally woke up it was pretty dark. I remember seeing this on the bush at night and thinking that it was really strange that my campmates would throw avocado peels into the bushes rather than dispose of them properly.
Then, at around noon the next day, I realized what the thing on the bush really was.
No, it couldn't be removed - it was there to stay.
Today, I discovered that cmrowell and peejaybird had coincidentally stayed at this exact same campsite a month before us.
I immediately accused them of taking a dump on the bush but after some analysis, I decided to exclude them from my investigation.
I consulted Ferguson's Table of Turdiometric Decay and determined that the turd on the bush was too fresh to have been extruded 4 weeks ago.
The numbers don't lie.

The number of Trucks, Vans* and Special Purpose Vehicles (Light, Medium & Heavy) registered + licenced in Hong Kong seems to fluctuate between 120,000 - 125,000 vehicles and presumably new trucks registered are offset by old trucks being retired or sold over the border in China.
*Vans are classified as Light Goods Vehicles and are not shown in this album
In Hong Kong Trucks are classified as GOODS VEHICLES By the Transport Department - see below
☛Light Goods Vehicles - Goods vehicles of permitted gross vehicle weight not exceeding 5.5 tonnes.
☛Medium Goods Vehicles - Goods vehicles of permitted gross vehicle weight exceeding 5.5 tonnes but not exceeding 24 tonnes.
☛Heavy Goods Vehicles - Goods vehicles of permitted gross vehicle weight exceeding 24 tonnes but not exceeding 38 tonnes.
The major truck types you tend to see in urban areas are trucks carrying construction materials or waste, dump trucks, concrete mixers and all sizes of delivery trucks... outside of the urban areas it is container trucks and large trucks carrying construction materials.
The following brands of Trucks can be seen on the streets of Hong Kong and include:-

Hong Kong is a brand conscious place even for trucks (!) hence the popularity of the European brands, Scania and Man are very popular and even the older trucks look the business and they are utterly reliable.
Isuzu is the market leader in terms of sale volume for all types of trucks.

This was just taken with Instagram (as those annoying auto tags attest, I suppose I could remove them) but I have to say, I like the way the app makes a simply iPhone image look pretty good. I took a dozen or more shots with my D-SLR and none quite captured the image in my mind as this saturated look. (Of course, I didn't play with filters on my other images. I could easily achieve the same effect.)
This was submitted to the 52 Week Challenge for "Growing." Finally, after two years of cleared dirt and abandoned steel beams, construction is finally occurring on the old Lowe's site. There is a Cracker Barrel going up just to the right of this shot.

Tires pose an enormous environmental problem. as I doodled down this idea - meant to be in the context of a larger work about the environment, I couldn't help but find it fascinating...and almost pretty....at least visually.
