Lucerne (Luzern), Switzerland in dramatic afternoon light. The light was so great I could not resist taking a tourist shot.
Lucerne (Luzern in German) was originally called Luciaria, which has been interpreted as "place of light" although other interpretations also exist.
This was taken during a short cruise on Lake Lucerne (I really slipped into the role of a tourist for a day) which turned out to be a great one-hour activity to do - beautiful views and an informative audioguide initiating the listeners to local sights and some history, or reviewing it.

Yup, this is an icon in photography terms... I had nice weather for sunset but was just 5 min. LATE !! The light on the arch had just faded when my buddy and myself finally got here. I think this is nice enough to share with you all, but I look forward to going back again in the next year and trying to get a more dynamic version.

Spectacular lighting conditions emphasize Holwick's dramatic setting.
Capture this with my phone camera while walking around for exercise. The things one sees when their head is in the clouds. Download it if you collect skies for your images.
On Saturday evening I decided to go to Sandy Point, Hayling Island, Hampshire to have a go at capturing the sunset.
The weather conditions were not favourable with lots of heavy black clouds but with some breaks on the horizon, the tide was low providing interesting reflected light on the wet sand!
I decided to try and add some drama to the composition by going for a long exposure using a Lee Little Stopper ND filter to provide some movement in the clouds!
74 second exposure using Lee Little Stopper 6 Stop ND filer with 0.6 ND grad over the sky.

A vivid rainbow drops on Bell Farm, Middleton in Teesdale. Taken from Middle Side on a blustery New Year's Day with very strong sunshine in between showers producing some dramatic lighting conditions.

When you travel in Mongolia, you are constantly in the middle of nowhere surrounded by nothing. It might sound strange by it was actually one of highlights of the trip.

i found him in valencia, tucked into the edges of a shadow, half-hidden around the corner. the light fell just so, catching the smoke curling from his lips and the glint of his glasses. the air hung thick with the scent of tobacco and the quiet stillness of a moment stolen from the rush of the city. he seemed unaware of the camera, lost in his own rhythm, the ember of his cigarette the only warmth in the cool contrast of the dark.
I love the way the clouds almost seem to bend over this tree. I wish the tree itself was more photogenic, and that I had been able to get more of it in frame.

We finish today's shot with a dramatic example of an acute angle of the sun's rays and a brooding sky.
The light on the sand and dunes was so impressive I needed to get the shot and take it quickly. But there was no way I could get a shot (handheld) and not capture my own elongated shadow. The sun was right over my shoulder.
But never mind. The shadow serves to show that (1) I have the longest legs in recorded history, or (2) the angle of the sun's rays was very low. You take your pick.
By all means enlarge this shot, there's plenty in it; especially look at the light on the wonderful shrubbery. And in this photo there was absolutely no choice. It had to be black and white. Colour doesn't do the drama well enough!

Looking up the dale over part of Holwick from Bell Farm near Newbiggin. Bright sunshine as far as Cronkley Fell, with Force Garth quarry, East and West Force Garth Farms, Strathmore Lodge, Hield House, Holwick Head and the High Force Hotel lit. Cronkley Fell and Scar in shadow in the background.

A winter twilight at Goðafoss, where the icy river curves toward the powerful falls beneath the last golden light of the Icelandic sky. A lone photographer stands at the edge, capturing the frozen beauty of the moment.
Once again, one from the archives. I've got quite a backlog as I've not shared much on Flickr in 2015, so apologies if you've seen this one elsewhere.
After centuries beneath the waves, the Kraken finally booked his dream Hawaiian getaway. As he rose from the surf to savor the golden sunset, barnacles glinting and seaweed trailing, a local sun-worshiper mistook his peaceful emergence for an ancient reckoning—and fled, leaving only footprints and panic in his wake.

Bir Ali is located on the spectacular coast road and it is surrounded by white sand dunes, green rocky mountains and black lava deposits. You can spend your afternoon swimming or relaxing on a white sand beach or spend overnight in beach huts. The surrounding coast is a mixture of volcanic landscape and occasional patches of sand dunes.

Spent the past week in Cabo San Lucas. Although I didn't have any of my "real cameras" with me, I took this one with my cellphone from a boat trip we did. I then edited it (sky replacement, black and white conversion, etc.) in PS.

Red sand dunes cover the landscape in the region of Al-Ain, in the eastern region of Abu Dhabi emirate next to the border with Oman.
Al Ain is a fertile oasis city located approximately 160 kilometres east of the Abu Dhabi capital. Its name ("the spring" in Arabic) derives from its originally plentiful supply of fresh water, which makes its way underground across most of the plain lying before the Omani mountains.
