As the sun slips beneath the horizon, Coney Island is wrapped in a warm, glowing sky. The last light of day paints the clouds in streaks of rose, orange, and violet — while the silhouettes of the boardwalk and the Atlantic shore quietly watch the day fade.

The lower end of Lunedale briefly lit by a burst of sunshine as seen from Bail Hill. Mickleton. Kirkcarrion on the ridge towards the left of the picture; Holwick and Middleton-in-Teesdale in the distance becoming obscured by the next shower approaching.

A slice of Upper Teesdale in dramatic light between heavy squalls as seen from Stable Edge. In the spotlight from left to right are Hield House farm, Force Garth quarry a little further away with East and West Force Garth Farms to the right of it, and most of Ettersgill at the right of the picture. The next set of heavy squalls are advancing and starting to obscure Cronkley Scar in the distance.

To me, this image looks like it could have been the cover of a pulp novel from the 1940's. This was taken at the end of a day long workshop put on by the Arizona Professional Photographer's Association at the Canyon Creek Ranch. The ranch is used for movie and model photography because of its movie set old West town. The workshop provided instructors, and professional models/actors. All we participants had to do was compose and photograph what we saw. This should be seen large, and you can see it in that enlightened manner by pressing the "L" on your keyboard or clicking on the image.
The actor/model her is Greg Wildman who portrays Filo whom you see here in the doorway of the old church in the town. The instructor for this shot lit the outside of the church using LED light painting which illuminated the exterior of the shot during my one second exposure. There was a dim light inside the church that provided the interior lighting. I will be posting a black and white version of this later.
Other images that I took during the day long workshop at Canyon Creek Ranch are in my Canyon Creek Ranch Album.

A hole the dark low cloud cover allows strong autumn sunshine to light up Middleton in Teesdale, in the classic view from Whistle Crag. Crossthwaite and Park End quarries stand out as bites out of the hillside, Holwick in the far distance.
A quiet moment suspended in time. Sunlight filters through the old glass, carving patterns onto the wooden floor. The day fades. The house stands empty… A solitary figure remains in silence, holding the weight of thought and memory. Or perhaps planning something new? Every ending is often the beginning of something else.
A snow-dusted mountain looms over sun-kissed, russet hills, casting deep shadows. This stark contrast evokes a feeling of majestic solitude and raw, untamed beauty.
the world is full of complicated answers.
long explanations, soft evasions.
but sometimes, there is only a simple, direct question.
it hangs in the air, heavy and warm in the late sun.
it is not an accusation.
it is an examination.
and in the silence that follows,
in the steady, unflinching gaze,
the real truth is found.
Black and white street photography of a person walking while looking at their mobile phone, captured in a dramatic shaft of sunlight against a white building wall in Ancoats, Manchester city centre, with their shadow prominently cast on the ground. The high-contrast image creates a striking chiaroscuro effect, with the figure illuminated against the bright white architectural surface while deep shadows dominate the left side of the composition. The person wears winter clothing and is absorbed in their phone while walking, creating a contemporary urban scene. This atmospheric photograph captures a moment of modern urban life in Manchester's historic Ancoats district, emphasizing the interplay between natural light, architecture, human movement, and shadow.
This is the sixth version of the same office building in Rochester, New York, I posted last year. No photoshop tricks, real building with B & W presentation using Silver Efex Pro 2.

Just as the sun dipped behind the hills, Lundbreck Falls gave me this moment — bold, moody, and powerful. The stillness of the snow clinging to the rock contrasted beautifully with the unstoppable movement of the water. A subtle glow lit the clouds, giving the whole scene a cinematic weight.
There’s a feeling here — like nature pausing mid-breath. The bridge in the distance, the storm-rolled sky, the ice beginning to melt… it all felt suspended.
Shot handheld in natural light. The goal was to balance motion with texture, holding onto the shadows without crushing the flow of the water.

I think that everyone of us has place which we wanted to visit but didn’t manage to do so or didn’t know about it when being in the area.
Well, Nasir al-Mulk mosque …. is such a place for me. When I visited Iran in 2006, I got to Shiraz mainly wanting to see Persepolis. It was only after I’ve left Shiraz that I’ve seen wonderful photos of rather unusual mosque that has beautifully colored glass windows. When I flew to Shiraz couple of months ago, I made sure that I wont miss this place again. However life makes sure that there is always some surprise prepared for us. Beauty of this mosque comes up especially when the light nicely penetrates colored glass and beautifully reflects on the tiled floor. I’ve visited this place on Saturday morning and carpets have been still spread on the floor after Friday prayers… so I didn’t get the full effect of the colorful light… it means I have to visit it again….

Something very different for me. Shot with a wide lens on a very bright day with hard blue skies and then heavily processed to create the dark sky effect, as if shot at night. I just liked the strong lead-in line taking the eye through the water features to the isolated single woman waiting in the square in front of the Imaginarium Dome. Does it work?

A hauntingly atmospheric tunnel scene where darkness slowly gives way to an almost blinding exit beyond. The damp brick textures, subtle green tones, and soft glow from the overhead lights create a cinematic and slightly dystopian mood. Captured to emphasise symmetry, depth, and the contrast between shadow and light — inviting the viewer to wonder what lies beyond the end of the tunnel.

A conceptual still life inspired by the tension and silence that follows a decisive move.
Shot with controlled studio lighting, using smoke and a diffused flash to create a cinematic, moody atmosphere.
The idea was to capture the symbolic contrast between victory and defeat - the calm after conflict.

Some spectacularly dramatic lighting conditions on the upper dale as seen from Bail Hill above Mickleton, on New Year's Eve 2025. The foreground in shadow is the bottom end of Lunedale. Illuminated in the middle distance (L>R) are part of Holwick and East and West Force Garth farms a little further back, Forest in Teesdale further away and Ettersgill to the right.
Have seen rainbows quite often at this location during the

An editorial beauty portrait shaped by cinematic light and quiet intensity.
Warm embers glow behind her while cool highlights carve every detail — a study of contrast, elegance, and stillness. Rhinestone accents and deep burgundy tones add a sense of modern glamour, balancing softness with strength.
This series explores how light alone can define mood, emotion, and form — where silence becomes expressive and beauty feels timeless.
Winter fields near the Niepołomice Forest, where nature forms a picturesque landscape full of nostalgia. A lone tree stands on the horizon, surrounded by furrowed soil and dried grass, while the last rays of the sun break through heavy clouds. The cool, dramatic atmosphere is enhanced by subtle beams of light, adding depth and mystery to the composition.
