One of two shots I got this weekend at Delicate Arch that I'm really pleased with (the other was taken about 15 minutes earlier, and the storm clouds over the La Sal Mountains behind the arch were darker and really dramatic--I'll throw that one up in a few days). Hiking back from the arch in the dark was a bit freaky, but totally worth it.
Nothing needs to be proven.
The strength is there,
contained,
unspoken.
Held without effort.

Haraz mountains is about 85 kms (a good 2-hour drive) from Sana'a. It reaches to 2300 meters above sea. As far as you can see there are mountains, smaller ones, bigger ones, and about 90 percent of these mountains are covered with terraces for agriculture. Not all of them are used anymore, because lots of locals have moved to the capital and there's just not enough people left to work all the fields. On every hilltop or big rock a town was built, for protection against enemies in the past, incredible constructions, it is mind-boggling how they managed to build them all ...

Recently discovered self-portrait taken in 2019 during COVID, experimenting with facial hair. The image was created by shaping a single-source light into a noir-style low-key study.
Capturing this mandrill in a moment of intense vocalization, I was struck by the raw power and primal energy radiating from this magnificent primate. The dramatic black and white treatment emphasizes the creature's fierce expression and the sculptural quality of its form emerging from the darkness.
I chose to work with dramatic low-key lighting to create this theatrical effect, where the mandrill becomes almost mythical against the deep black background. The monochrome processing strips away any distractions, focusing entirely on the animal's powerful presence and emotional intensity.
What fascinated me was witnessing this display of natural behavior - whether territorial calling, social communication, or simply expressing dominance. There's something both intimidating and mesmerizing about observing such raw, unfiltered animal instinct up close.
My intention was to create more than just a wildlife photograph, but rather a portrait that captures the essence of wildness itself. The dramatic lighting and composition transform this moment into something almost cinematic, revealing the dignity and power inherent in our closest evolutionary relatives.
Driving east on the Ring Road away from Kirkjubæjarklaustur towards Höfn there are many rivers and streams.
This stream is Hverfisfljót - nothing remarkable about it apart from the excellent light and heavy, dramatic sky inland, to the north, that made me stop and make a photo. Farm buildings at the right probably belong to Núpar Farm.

This little lens is the sleeper of the XF line - it is a stellar landscape performer and the profile on the XP2 is very small.
A moody, low-key study of a Herdwick sheep on the Stiperstones ridge. By exposing for the bright evening highlights, the surrounding Shropshire landscape is plunged into a deep, velvety black, leaving only the glowing "halo" of the wool and the fine details of the grass in the foreground. This minimalist approach strips the scene down to its essential elements: the hardy resilience of the upland livestock and the ethereal quality of the golden hour light. The resulting image captures the quiet, sometimes solitary atmosphere of the Welsh border heights as day turns to night.

Photo was taken in Beyal Camp which is a wonderful place surrounded with beautiful thick Pine forest, spellbinding views of Raikot Glacier and Nanga Parbat.
It was taken after the rain. I particularly like those wonderful evening colors and simple composition created by the rocky hills and one of the last rainy clouds.

Sharjah (Arabic: الشارقة) is one of the emirates of the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The emirate covers 2,600 km² (1,003 mi²) and has a population of over 800,000 (2008). The emirate of Sharjah comprises the city of Sharjah (the seat of the emirate), and other minor towns and enclaves such as Kalba, Dibba Al-Hisn and Khor Fakkan. Sharjah also claims two islands, Sir Abu Nu’ayr and Abu Musa, with the latter claim being disputed and the island being controlled by Iran.
Historically, Sharjah was one of the wealthiest towns in this region with a settlement in existence for over 5000 years. In the early 18th century Al Qasimi clan (Huwala tribe) established itself in Sharjah, c. 1727 declaring Sharjah independent. On 8 January 1820, Sheikh Sultan I signed the General Maritime Treaty with Britain, accepting a protectorate to keep the Ottoman Turks out. Like four of its neighbours, Ajman, Dubai, Ras al-Khaimah, and Umm al-Qaiwain, its position on the route to India made it important enough to be recognized as a salute state.

There was a very brief moment when the sun looked like it was going to come out (it's been raining pretty steadily here in Portland) so I headed over to this location that is 5 min. from my house and grabbed a shot with the cherry trees singing in the amazing light that lasted another 10 min. before the next storm took the light away.

This proverb isn’t about virtue. It’s about timing.

Being early means seeing clearly before the fog of excuses, denials and rewritten versions arrives.
It means leaving the first trace — the first honest account — before anyone tries to bury it under convenience.
In the end, the “worm” is not a reward.
It is the truth: uncomfortable, real, and impossible to unsee once you’ve found it.
An evening sun breaks through layers of cloud above Vallø near Tønsberg, sending dramatic rays of light across the Oslofjord. In the foreground lies Prinds Christians Batterie, a historic coastal fortification that once formed part of the region’s maritime defenses. Today the peninsula is better known for its open coastal landscape, rich birdlife and peaceful shoreline, where history and nature meet beneath ever-changing Nordic skies.
Fun fact: Prinds Christians Batterie was established during the Napoleonic Wars in the early 1800s as part of the coastal defense system protecting shipping routes into the Oslofjord. Today, the former military site is a valued cultural and recreational area overlooking some of Norway’s busiest coastal waters.

Il reste parfois un geste pour retenir ce qui est déjà perdu. Une main contre la vitre, comme si la distance pouvait encore céder.
Mais certaines absences ne laissent rien à rejoindre.
EN Sometimes, all that remains is a gesture trying to hold on to what is already lost. A hand against the glass, as if distance could still give way. But some absences leave nothing to return to.

Lucerne (Luzern), Switzerland in dramatic afternoon light. The light was so great I could not resist taking a tourist shot.
Lucerne (Luzern in German) was originally called Luciaria, which has been interpreted as "place of light" although other interpretations also exist.
This was taken during a short cruise on Lake Lucerne (I really slipped into the role of a tourist for a day) which turned out to be a great one-hour activity to do - beautiful views and an informative audioguide initiating the listeners to local sights and some history, or reviewing it.

Yup, this is an icon in photography terms... I had nice weather for sunset but was just 5 min. LATE !! The light on the arch had just faded when my buddy and myself finally got here. I think this is nice enough to share with you all, but I look forward to going back again in the next year and trying to get a more dynamic version.
