The little village of Elgol is one of the most photographed parts of the Isle of Skye. Elgol is an increasingly popular destination for climbers and hill walkers of all levels due to its unparalleled access to the famous Cuillin Hills and the various smaller hills dotted around wherever you look. Elgol is a crofting and fishing village in the Strath area of the Island. The small, sparsely populated village is scattered along the final mile of the road from Broadford.

Though you may never have heard of the little fishing and crofting village of Elgol in the Scottish Highlands, there is a good chance that you have seen photos of Elgol's famous mountain and seascape scenery in postcards, Scottish books and even film scenes and television programmes. From the larger Skye village of Broadford many visitors have turned down the enchanting Elgol road completely unaware of the magnificent scenes that await them around almost every corner. The 15 mile journey over twisty single-track roads will take you past High Pastures Cave, one of the most significant archaeological finds in the area, then sweep you around the corner to the ancient, historical site of Kilchrist church

Every mile you drive on your journey from Broadford to Elgol will fool you into thinking that the scenery simply cannot be bettered. However, you will be proved wrong when you arrive in Elgol and reach the shore and the little fishing harbour. There is simply nothing on earth to compare to the site of the Cuillin Hills beyond the Elgol shore - a breathtaking view whether it is sunny or stormy.

There are various opinions as to the meaning of the name, 'Elgol' (or Ealaghol in the native Gaelic, some suggesting 'The Noble Dale' and others 'The Weeping Swan' (folklore details the story of a Viking captain who perished when his longboat named 'The Swan' came to attack the people of Elgol).

Europe - UK - United Kingdom - England - North West England - Cumbria - Lakes - Lake District National Park - Derwent Water Lake in Borough of Allerdale - South of Keswick town

Derwentwater (or Derwent Water) is one of the principal bodies of water in the Lake District National Park in North West England. It lies wholly within the Borough of Allerdale, in the county of Cumbria. The lake occupies part of Borrowdale and lies immediately south of the town of Keswick. It is both fed and drained by the River Derwent. It measures approximately 3 miles (4.8 km) long by 1 mile (1.6 km) wide and is some 72 feet (22 m) deep. There are several islands within the lake, one of which is inhabited.

I think that probably every photographer that goes to Lake District comes home with at least one photo of a wooden jetty on the lake. This one in particular is rather popular. I have tried to make it little bit my own by using torch and lighting it up against dark and stormy sky.

A winter sunrise casts a warm glow across a frozen Icelandic landscape as icy waters plunge into a partially frozen waterfall. The contrast between the soft golden sky, the dark volcanic terrain, and the flowing blue water creates a striking scene of movement and stillness in the heart of the Nordic wilderness.

This photo was taken early morning in the Lage Vuursche Forest on the way from Hilversum to Soestduinen. Lage Vuursche is a village in the Dutch province of Utrecht. It is a part of the municipality of Baarn, and lies about 5 km west of Soest, in the middle of the forest. Drakestein, the former residence of Queen Beatrix, is situated just east of the village. An oasis of rest directly next to the big city life.

As you travel further north and west of Scotland, in particular on Scotland's islands, you will sooner or later find yourself on a road too narrow to pass the vehicle coming the other way towards you. Driving these roads requires thought and concentration. There are usually plenty of passing places (but they can get fewer and further between on more minor roads), and these are usually, but not always, marked with the sign captured on this shot.

The trick on single track roads is to drive with a combination of consideration and assertiveness. In an ideal world, vehicles approaching one another should adjust their speeds so as to meet at a passing place. That way neither waits for the other, and both proceed at best speed. It doesnt always happen like this, but in general, people in highlands are very friendly and tend to behave this way. Extra bonus is to watch those confused tourists that are just getting used to driving on the other site than in their home country so they tend to pick the first passing place, park on the opposite side as they would do in continental Europe and wait, staring like a scared rabbit being caught in headlights (I used to be one of them too, but no more!!).

Faroe Islands - Island of Viðoy - Norðoyar Region - Viðareiði - The northernmost settlement in the Faroe Islands - Classic view of Vidareidi church with cliffs of Bordoy and Kunoy islands

Although I was happy with my shots from this place during afternoon light, we still decided to come back for sunset time as it is a perfect spot for it during this time of year. This amazing light lasted for only about 10 mins after huge snow/rain/hail storm and before another one came in while the gale strong wind was trying to blow us away, however the final result is what I call the divine light...

We've visited the grand old church in Haarlem and enjoyed this oil painting of it.

the puddle was a doorway. a cut in the asphalt, opening into a world where buildings stood sharper than reality, where a figure stretched towards nothing. maybe it was a sign. maybe it meant something. or maybe it was just another wet day in madrid.

Sunrise from last year in Canyonlands National park. One other photographer was there so we danced back and forth to get different compositions. I liked this one alot.

This was one of the last photos I took during my weekend trip to Switzerland. It was late afternoon during autumn when the shadows become very long and enhanced shapes, contours and textures of the landscape. This was one of the photos that made my trip worth visit.

a single stride casts a longer echo—childlike, unguarded, and full of motion. caught in the stark midday light, this silhouette becomes more than a shadow. it becomes a trace of joy, of growth, of everything that passes but never really leaves.

Peyto Lake (pea-toe) is a glacier-fed lake located in Banff National Park in the Canadian Rockies. The lake itself is easily accessed from the Icefields Parkway.During the summer, significant amounts of glacial rock flour flow into the lake, and these suspended rock particles give the lake a bright, turquoise color. Because of its bright color, photos of the lake often appear in illustrated books, and area around the lake is a popular sightseeing spot for tourists in the park. The lake is best seen from Bow Summit, the highest point on the Icefield Parkway.

Midjourney ai facing the light

Taken from the Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge, Howard Beach, NY.

they say the streets of córdoba whisper stories — but here, on calle victoria, the walls speak in light. this tunnel isn’t a passage, it’s a thought made of concrete and metal, winding like a memory that never walks straight. the lines draw you in and away at once, and somewhere up ahead, a figure moves — not fast, not slow, just forward. the silence here has a direction. architecture becomes feeling, structure becomes rhythm, and everything flows toward that single bright point, where no one knows if it's the start or the end. this is calle victoria — and this is what it looks like when you really listen to it.

I love these old fiberglass chairs--the poor man's Eames.

They are comfortable!

spontaneous rage or just a yawn?

Panorama from my evening walk a couple of days ago. We have a forest, not a big one but a very diverse one, just ten minutes walk away. We have taken many walks there over the last couple of years, but we had never really ventured far beyond the forest but it really is a beautiful area. This one was a hard one, the autumn light was really warm and glowing, the sky delightfully blue. Monochrome just suited it too well. Constructive criticism is always welcome! Have a great day!

Here's another shot from the De Hoop Nature Reserve dune field... captured about an hour before sunset... a couple of months ago.

Europe - UK - United Kingdom - England - North West England - Cumbria - Lakes - Lake District National Park - Keswick - Castlerigg Stone Circle - One of most visually impressive prehistoric monuments in Britain

Castlerigg Stone Circle (Keswick Carles, Carles, Carsles or Castle-rig) near Keswick in England is one of the most visually impressive prehistoric monuments in Britain and is the most visited stone circle in Cumbria. Every year, thousands of people make the short journey from Keswick to the plateau of Castlerigg Fell and to Chestnut Hill, on which the monument stands. This plateau forms the raised centre of a natural amphitheatre created by the surrounding fells and from within the circle it is possible to see some of the highest peaks in Cumbria: Helvellyn, Skiddaw, Grasmoor and Blencathra.

The stones are of a local metamorphic slate, set in a flattened circle, measuring 32.6 m (107 ft) at its widest and 29.5 m (97 ft) at its narrowest. The heaviest stone has been estimated to weigh around 16 tons and the tallest stone measures approximately 2.3m high. There is a 3.3m wide gap in its northern edge, which may have been an entrance. Within the circle, abutting its eastern quadrant, is a roughly rectangular setting of a further 10 stones. The circle was probably constructed around 3200 BC (Late Neolithic/Early Bronze-Age), making it one of the earliest stone circles in Britain and possibly in Europe

It is not so easy to come up with unique take on a place like Castlerigg Stone Circle, one of the most visited places in Lake District. It was raining quite heavily and the result was that there was rather large water puddle inside the stone circle and I have used it in my favor to capture this place with reflection. This angle was the lowest possible as I was holding the camera just above the water level.
