Much prettier sky today than on the other cloudy days that I tried this shot. Dazzle was again watching a person walking by on the road when I snapped this. I tried many different angles while he practiced his stay but only uploaded this one. I went out to get this particular shot (for a contest) in spite of the pain I'm in, then got back home and went back to bed. As far as the contest results, I would have been better off staying home. But I'm still glad I finally got the shot I wanted.
I added a photo of the log he was on to my stream to show that it is at ground level on the root end so that's how he got up there. The fallen tree is over a bit of a gully, so it gets pretty far off the ground. I am 5'5" and could just barely touch the underside of the log where he is standing in the photo. He's not the least bit bothered by height and at one point he was standing sideways across the log to look down at me. I liked the shot I got of him doing that, but I needed the flash and didn't realise that till I saw it larger on my computer screen.
He is as agile as a cat, but also careful about where he is putting his feet so I don't worry about him falling. And this is about the same height as the palisade wall that Malinois have to jump off of in Ringsport (after jumping to the top of the wall). (www.youtube.com/watch?v=i_Q5K48NGPc)

This was taken on my way to work, just before stopping at the house on the corner where my previously posted photo with the cat was taken. I thought these pipes were interesting and it was funny how one pairing was different from the other two. Sometimes I notice these things... I'm learning to be more observant.
My vacation photos did come back a week or so ago, before I moved in. I've just been too lazy to start posting them. That would require me to go back in my memories and write about them... Not that re-living the trip wouldn't be enjoyable! Just that I'm lazy...
I'll try to start posting those photos sometime soon. Maybe after Orientation week is over... I make no promises. XP

A different perspective for an azalea. During the rain last weekend I ventured outside to clip a few blossoms from an azalea in the front yard. I brought them inside to my softbox and tried to get as close as I could. The rain drops always make it more interesting for me. This image was focus stacked from 22 separate shots.
As I mentioned on this shot, I've been trying more macro shots lately because macro is this month's photo assignment for my local photo club.

Something a bit different from my regular Flickr uploads.
This is a short movie I made a while back but which I wasn't able to put on Flickr at the time because it was too long for the rules in place at the time.
I've been into video for many years but never really found the time to fully explore it as a medium. The original footage was shot several years ago on a Canon MV500 which records onto digital tape. I played the music on my Ibanez Electro-Acoustic 12 string, recorded and edited directly on my MacBook in Garageband. The whole lot is then edited together in iMovie.
There is more than a little influence from the work of the German Director Werner Herzog and also of Popul Vuh who supplied the soundtrack music for many of his earlier films.

The Annual Masters Historic Festival returned to Brands Hatch for another Year of Amazing and Superb Racing Featuring The LolaT70mk3b's
Ferrari 512M and Historic Formula 1 Championship along with many other familiar faces, the Weekend was shaping up to be another Cracking one for the History Books, With each Driver ready to Take on the Twists and Turns of the Grand Prix Circuit. With Qualifying Underway it was time to see what the Drivers could do.
Equip Libre-Qualifying
The Equip Libre Racing series shows off some of the best sports cars of the 60's and 70's and features a wide range of different classes battling it out for Victory.
After a very Fierce Qualifying Session it was (Alison C and Thompson P) in their Cobra Shelby America who took First Place with a lap time of (1:48.219)
Second place went the way of (Tom Smith) in his MGB with a Lap time of 1:52.849)
Finally in Third Place was (Tucker Lar/Tucker Lau) in their Ford Shelby Mustang GTR350 with a Lap time of 1:52.915.
A Fantastic Qualifying session for the top three and lots to look forward to in their first Race of the Weekend.
Gentlemen Drivers-Qualifying
The Gentlemen Drivers series made an Exciting return to Brands Hatch for the Masters Festival showcasing cars from a time where many Gentlemen Alike Drove with Spirit and the Determination to both enjoy themselves and be competitive on the Race Track. Many cars such as Cobras TVR'S and Jaguars were amongst the Field.
In First Place was (Oliver Bryant) in his AC Cobra with a very fast Lap time of 1:42.589 showcasing some incredible driving skill and determination behind the wheel.
In Second Place was (Mike Whitaker) in his TVR Griffith with a lap time of 1:42.616 Pushing his TVR Griffith to the limit in terms of Traction and Speed.
In Third Place was (Thomas J/Lockie C) with their Beautiful Shelby Cobra Daytona Coupe with a lap time of 1:42.687, Even the Great Carol Shelby would have been Impressed with that run.
Another Amazing Session of Qualifying showing just how close to top three Drivers are and this should make for some amazing Racing come Race Day.
Masters Endurance Legends-Qualifying
The Masters Endurance Legends made its Rare Appearance at Brands Hatch having not been back to the circuit since 2017 and showcased some Amazing and Impressive Machinery from the days of Le Mans. Such cars out there were the Aston Martin DBR9 ORECA 03 LMP2 and The Lola Judd B12/60. The Cars were Ready to Take on the Grand Prix circuit with the crowds waiting in anticipation to see who would emerge Victorious in Qualifying.
In First Place with an Immense Lap time of 1:23.007 was the Lola-Judd B12/60 of (Steve Tandy) Eric Broadly would have loved to have seen that.
In Second Place was (Shaun Lynn) in his BR01 with an Equally Impressive lap time of 1:23.647 Following Closely behind that Of Steve Tandy.
In Third Place was (Mark Higson) with his Oreca 03 LMP2 setting a lap time of 1:24.661
A Fast time for the Oreca around the Grand Prix Circuit.
All Three Drivers were looking very close to each other indeed but out of the three who would be the one to take Victory Come Race Day. Only time will tell.
Masters Historic Formula One-Qualifying
The Historic Formula One Cars were to make their Annual Appearance at Brands Hatch and with them came some of the most Iconic and Intense Looking Racing Machines from the James Hunt Emerson Fitipauldi and Jody Shecker Era of Racing. With Tough Competition Things looked to be Getting Heated in this Qualifying Session.
In First Place was (Steve Hartley with his McLaren MP4/1 Onced Raced By James Hunt with a lap time of 1:21.829 A Lap that Even James Hunt would have said "Hess Got Big Balls That Bloke"
In Second Place was (Warren Briggs) in his McLaren M29 with a lap time of 1:24.789 Another Driver with some very Big Balls Indeed.
In Third Place was (Lucas Halusa) in his McLaren M23 with a lap time of 1:24.818 Another Superb Drive Indeed.
With Qualifying Over it was time to see which Driver would be able to take the Victory on Race Day and which Driver would falter and Potentially Miss the Margin. Lets Just Hope No James Hunt Style First Fights In The Pits.
Historic Sports Cars-Qualifying
Historic Sports Cars Harp back to the Early Days of Sports Prototypes at Le Mans and even in the Lower GT Series. Featuring Many Great Cars such as the Chevron B19 and LolaT70mk3b. With Qualifying Underway Lets See what The Drivers Get Up to.
In First Place was (Gary Pearson and Alex Brundle) in their Lola T70MK3B with a lap time of 1:29.464 Eric Would Be Proud of That One.
In Second Place was (Tom Bradshaw) in his Chevron B19 with a lap time of 1.29.645 A Fitting Tribute to Chevron and their Love of Speed and Reliability.
In Third Place was (Jonathan Mitchell in his Chevron B19 with a lap time of 1:31.100 Some fine turning maybe needed but anything can happen come Race day.
A Beautiful and Fantastic Set of Cars seen and a Real Delight to see a T70MK3B on the front row for the Start of the Race but will Lola and Broadly Prevail or will Chevrons B19's Put up the Fight?
Masters Pre 66 Touring Cars-Qualifying
The Masters Pre 66 Touring Cars were up next and the Cars from this Era we used for what become the modern BTCC that we known of today and this Era is all about the start and how Touring Car style Racing came about. The Ford Mustang Lotus Cortina and Morris Mini Cooper S were just a few cars ahead of a very packed Grid for Qualifying.
In First Place was (Soper S and Mann H) in their Ford Mustang with a lap time of 1:46.506 Ford Of American would have Loved to have seen a Lap of Brands Like That.
In Second Place was (Fenn R and Hill J) with their Ford Mustang with a lap time of 1:47.022 Another Victory for Ford Of America.
In Third Place was (Thomas J and Lockie C) with their Ford Falcon with a lap time of 1:47.724
It looks like its a Ford 1 2 and 3 on the Front Row and the Ford Powered cars have beaten the likes of Austin Mini and Studebaker in the process. Looking forward to the Race its going to be a good one.
Pre 66 Mini's-Qualifying
The Mini's were back at Brands Hatch for another Year with the Masters Festival and on Display were some very well prepared and Race ready Mini's from the later range of Cooper S Variety Although out of the whole field one of them stood out and that was (Mark Burnett) with his Austin Mini Countryman which made for a really entertaining Qualifying Session with the other Coopers.
In First Place was (Jeff Smith) In his Austin Mini Cooper S with a lap time of 1:49.179 Alec Issigonis would have been very proud of that lap.
In Second Place was (Nathen Heathcote) in his Austin Mini Cooper S with a lap time of 1:49.883 Another very impressive lap time on the Grand Prix Circuit.
In Third Place was (Ian Curley) in his Austin Mini Cooper S with a lap time of 1:50.210 All three Drivers very close to Pole Position.
Fantastic to see the Pre 66 Mini's back at Brands and to all other Competitors as well. Looking forward to Race Day where we will definitely see some impressive Machinery Battling it out for a Victory. See you all then.
Every year we search the Open House booklet seeking something different.
I have discovered Victorian churches, and am rather smitten by Gothic Revival and Victorian Stained Glass, so with the description in the book, this was going to be a must to visit.
From the City we took a cab to Paddington, the driver wasn't interested in taking us to the church, just to the nearby taxi driver's cabin.
From there we walked beside the Canal from Little Venice and into Paddington, and behind a faceless 60s housing development was this Gothic masterpiece.
We were two of only three visitors, but greeted warmly, and clearly the volunteers were rightly very proud of this living and wonderful church.

The parish was founded in 1865, as a “church plant” from All Saints, Margaret Street, in a densely packed slum district, by Fr Richard Temple West, who was then a Curate at Margaret Street. The architect was George Edmund Street, a member of the Margaret Street congregation, and then at the height of his powers. Building started in 1867, and was complete in 1872, but a fire destroyed the brand new roof and the reconstruction took a year, so the first Mass in the new building was on St. Mary Magdalene’s Day 1873. The church was consecrated on 21st October 1878, after the decorations were finished.
Street’s design was dictated by the site, sloping steeply from north to south and also from west to east at the back and slightly from east to west at the front, and hemmed in by terraced housing. The church is immensely high, with a needle spire, which rose above the rooftops. Clerestory windows ensured that it was light. The irregular west end abutted existing buildings, and the church occupies every inch of the available site, except for a sunken area to access the vestries. The Building Act forbade building above a certain height right up against a pavement, but allowed it five feet back, so on the north side Street built a “false” aisle, five feet wide, with the arcade carrying the church to its full height. On the south side, there is a normal, wide aisle. Under the church, to provide a level platform, is a massive crypt, including vestries at the east end. Street’s artistry was to provide a double arcade to the north aisle which takes the eye away from the proximity of the outside wall and conceals a slight curve in it. He was building the Royal Courts of Justice at the same time, and there is more than a passing resemblance between St. Mary Mag’s and the Great Hall there (also a solution to a sloping site). The decorative scheme of the church is Street’s, executed by some of the leading ecclesiastical artists of the day. The windows are all by Henry Holiday and repay careful study.
Twenty years after the building of the church, Ninian Comper was commissioned to produce a fitting memorial to Fr. West and created the Chapel of St Sepulchre in the south aisle of the crypt, his first work in London. This involved altering the crypt windows (which come up to street level on the south side) and putting in new stairs. The Chapel is a chantry chapel translated from fifteenth century Germany, with every detail perfectly designed by Comper in an elaborate scheme based on the idea of St. Mary Magdalene, the penitent, becoming the first witness of the resurrection. Comper in later years came to see this work as mechanical reproduction, but it produces an exquisite effect, with a blue vault spangled with stars and a reredos crammed with figures glittering with burnished gold. The reredos contains a concealed tabernacle (possibly the first to be installed on a Church of England altar) which took the place of Comper’s favoured hanging pyx for fear of protestant rioters. The Chapel has always been troubled by penetrating damp and needed to be restored in the 1930s and 1960s. It served as the chapel for a small house of the Wantage sisters during the years that they worked in the parish.
In the 1920s fashions had changed in “advanced” Anglo-Catholic circles, and the correct style was felt to be baroque, and so alterations were made to the church by Martin Travers, the leading designer in the style. Travers created the war memorial calvary outside the church, and the Lady Chapel inside the transept porch, an exercise in Spanish baroque, as a memorial to Fr. Bleadon, the second Vicar. Comper had produced a design for this Lady altar before the Great War, but it was never executed. Travers’ most prominent work, however, was to raise the floor of the chancel and provide an elegant marble balustrade and communion rails. The work in cream and pale green marble fits well with Street’s wall decorations though the raising of the reredos to overlap the east window is regrettable. Street had given the church a low chancel screen in delicate ironwork, which was preserved and installed in the crypt. The Mary Magdalene altar was also installed in the 1920s in the south aisle, and Travers executed a charming statue of the patron saint holding a model of the church which now stands there, but which originally stood in the south porch.
In the 1960s, the community that the church served was swept away in slum clearance after wartime bombing, and the church left marooned, looking like some vast liner moored on the canal, amid the council flats of the Warwick Estate. The crypt Chapel was restored for the centenary of the church, and the north porch was walled up, but otherwise little was done to the building.
The twenty-first century has seen the first successful efforts to restore and regenerate the building after decades of decay. The vast west window was totally repaired, releaded and cleaned in 2005-6. The roof has been reslated in 2007-8, and all the rainwater goods repaired or replaced, and the clerestory windows repaired. The vestries have been refurbished with a view to opening them up for community use once they have dried out. A major feasibility study has been carried out by architects and consultants for the regeneration of the crypt in partnership with Westminster City Council and the Paddington Development Trust.
In 2015 we were fortunate to achieve Stage1 support from the Heritage Lottery Fund for the Mary Mags project and are now working on our Stage 2 bid.

Here is a "compare" shot for Apple White and Blondie Lockes.
They are blonde (apple a true blonde, Blondie.. a yellow blonde :p) and had blue eyes, but like in the picture the faces are so different.

Poppy is indifferent to the fish, which have been an enduring fascination for Bob. Bob, however, has never got the big deal about rubber balls.
I'm really starting to wonder about Poppy. My mother-in-law saw her dam at the breeders and confirms that she was a proper yorkie, but we only know what the breeder told us of her sire: "he was a big yorkie." I'm starting to wonder if the "big yorkie" wasn't actually an australian terrier, or maybe a silky terrier.
