Before starting my Passage of time project, to get inspiration I looked at several different photographers and several types of photography. This is a response to painting with light photography.
The shot was taken at Almora, Uttarakhand, India. One side of the valley was covered with last night snow whereas other side had its spring beauty. And of course the white saint of Himalaya through green and blue valley silently showing his mighty existence.
The noticeable difference from the Asian markets we’re more accustomed to in Hawai‘i, is that so much is already beheaded and cleaned for the customer. The selling point is convenience, whereas those in our Chinatown would be appalled at the waste, especially of the heads which give more freshness clues. Here, the freshness is assumed — as is the confidence of the sale and short shelf life, for the market teems with buyers and not just the tourists.

this last week for art coursework has really grabbed all my attention and energy. i still have a sculpture to finish and a few pages of sketchbook work. i have four days.
this journey has brought me special affinity to this little box of watercolor. it's made my page backgrounds, added color to make my amateur sketches look at least a little more sophisticated (i was never good at realistic drawing). this feeling is so significant that i was most excited about being able to buy more brushes at the Cass Art sale more than anything else (except the bags, which i absolutely love). i used to have a set of brushes but i had left them in manila, in a quaintly shaped and affectionately painted glass apple juice bottle.
and yes, spot the difference.
