Before starting my Passage of time project, to get inspiration I looked at several different photographers and several types of photography. This is a response to painting with light photography.

Pictures taken from my 3 cameras while eating at Ikea. Although it has a slight different angles, the picture quality is different. The picture on top left was taken from my Nokia 5130 XpressMusic Phone. The picture on bottom left was taken from my Sony Cybershot DSC-S750 Digital Camera and the enlarge picture on the right was taken from my Sony DSLR A200 DSLR Camera.

The Bonneville Salt Flats is a densely packed salt pan in Tooele County in northwestern Utah. The area is a remnant of the Pleistocene Lake Bonneville and is the largest of many salt flats located west of the Great Salt Lake. The property is public land managed by the Bureau of Land Management and is known for land speed records at the "Bonneville Speedway". Access to the flats is open to the public.

Entertainment filmed at the salt flats include portions of Knight Rider, Warlock, Independence Day (1996) and its sequel, SLC Punk, Cremaster 2 from Cremaster Cycle, The Brown Bunny, The World's Fastest Indian, Gerry, The Tree of Life, Top Gear, and Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End. Furthermore, the Pontiac Bonneville (former flagship sedan of the Pontiac motor division), the Triumph Bonneville motorcycle, and the Bonneville International media company are all named for the salt flats.

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) has undertaken numerous studies of the salt crust thickness within the Bonneville Salt Flats and ultimately concluded in a 2007 study that there was virtually no difference in the salt crust thickness from 1988 to 2003. Specifically, the BLM concluded “despite brine withdrawal for mineral production, neither short nor long-term measurable changes in salt crust thickness could be documented.” The BLM further concluded that earlier salt crust measurement studies showing salt crust deterioration were seriously flawed.

Despite this, since 1998, the owners of the Wendover potash facility have worked diligently in conjunction with the BLM to undertake the Salt Laydown Project under which solid salt from ponds located south of Interstate 80 is dissolved and pumped onto the Bonneville Salt Flats north of I-80. During the following summer months, heat from the sun vaporizes the water and the precipitated salt becomes part of the race track surface. Since the onset of this project, more than 10.7 million tons of salt have been pumped onto the Bonneville Salt Flats. The Salt Laydown Project is now a required element of the facility’s operating plan.

Motorcar racing has taken place at the salt flats since 1914. Racing takes place at part of the Bonneville Salt Flats known as the Bonneville Speedway. There are five major land speed events that take place at the Bonneville Salt Flats. Bonneville "Speed Week" takes place mid-August followed by "World of Speed" in September and the "World Finals" take place early October.

These three events welcome cars, trucks, and motorcycles. The "Bub Motorcycle Speed Trials" are for motorcycles only. World records are contested at the Mike Cook ShootOut in September. The Southern California Timing Association and the Utah Salt Flats Racing Association organizes and plans the multi-vehicle events, but all event promoters contribute to prepping and maintaining the salt. "Speed Week" events in August were canceled for the second year in a row in 2015, due to poor conditions of the salt in certain parts of the flats. The salt flats had been swamped by heavy rains earlier in the year, which usually happens, but the rains also triggered mudslides from surrounding mountains and onto a section of the flats used for the land-speed racing courses.

The noticeable difference from the Asian markets we’re more accustomed to in Hawai‘i, is that so much is already beheaded and cleaned for the customer. The selling point is convenience, whereas those in our Chinatown would be appalled at the waste, especially of the heads which give more freshness clues. Here, the freshness is assumed — as is the confidence of the sale and short shelf life, for the market teems with buyers and not just the tourists.

The 2022 BBC Make A Difference Awards Presentation dinner at the Hilton Doubletree hotel at Brayford Pool Lincoln. A lovely evening, great to meet other nominees and some BBC editors and presenters.

This series of shots was taken of a group of tarapunga gathered around a freshwater stream entering the Avon/Heathcote estuary. The birds were drinking and bathing. A large number of juveniles were mixed in with the adults and some were still begging to be fed but all were fully fledged and it was clear the adults while still a little protective of them, thought it was well past time their youngsters found their own food.

Tarapunga are a native of New Zealand, being found throughout the country and on outlying islands including the Chatham Islands and Sub-antarctic islands. The Red-billed Gull is a fairly small gull with an all-red bill, red eye ring, red legs and feet, pale grey wings with black wingtips. The rest of the body and tail are white. There is virtually no visual difference between the male and female birds. The immature gulls have a dark brown bill with only hints of red. The legs are also brown and there are brown spots on the grey wings.

It is the smallest gull commonly seen in New Zealand; a recent estimate of the population puts it at half a million birds in the country. Until recently it was regarded as a subspecies of the Silver Gull Larus novaehollandiae found in Australia, and the two species are very similar in appearance. However the most recent research suggests that they are not particularly closely related. Behaviourally, the Red-Billed Gull is a typical gull. It is an aggressive scavenger and kleptoparasite. Since European settlement its numbers have increased, especially around coastal towns and cities where it can scavenge from urban waste. It normally feeds on small fish, shell fish and worms (from pastures), and sometimes berries, lizards and insects.

maybe haylee will grow up to be as tall as her dad some day.....but she definately has a long way to go.

I created and made these last weekend April 12/13, 2014. Painted watercolor papers and minimal embellishments. I'm making these to bless our church's Missions ministry and more!

Old and New? Or just Rich and Poor?

Notice the slight difference in the color of the bracts (and even bract shapes), color of the petals, density of flowers, "leafyness" of the inflorescence, density of inflorescence, etc. between one clone and the other. Suppose the diversity in this sage adds some spice to life!
