The difference between a "Burg" and a "Schloss" (castle) is that a Burg is more like a fortress, built for protection from the enemies, and a Schloss was for the nobility to reside in, and very lavishly decorated.

Over time, some of the Burgs were also turned into castles.

Burg Eltz is somewhat unusual, in that it's been in the same family that had it built over 850 years ago, and Count and Countess Eltz still live there today.

Temporal duration

I found this beautiful tree earlier this evening on a hiking tour along river Werre close my hometown Löhne. The whole day was a complete opposite to yesterday when I enjoyed a couple of hours fishing in beautiful sunshine with temperatures in the low twenties. Today the temperatures dropped significantly below ten and a cold Northern wind chilled the area. Nevertheless it was a great evening. Löhne, Ostwestfalen, Germany

Huge differences in weather from the eastern part of Norway to the west coast, so now there is only rain and wind ahead 😂

Note the eye size difference between these chicks, born about a week apart. The food the parent is offering appears to be a dragonfly nymph.

Noordpolderzijl: Pearl in the Waddenzee

The Eurasian sparrowhawk (Accipiter nisus), also known as the northern sparrowhawk or simply the sparrowhawk, is a small bird of prey in the family Accipitridae. Adult male Eurasian sparrowhawks have bluish grey upperparts and orange-barred underparts; females and juveniles are brown above with brown barring below. The female is up to 25% larger than the male – one of the greatest size differences between the sexes in any bird species. Though it is a predator which specialises in catching woodland birds, the Eurasian sparrowhawk can be found in any habitat and often hunts garden birds in towns and cities. Males tend to take smaller birds, including tits, finches, and sparrows; females catch primarily thrushes and starlings, but are capable of killing birds weighing 500 g (18 oz) or more.

World desperately is in need of cutting out the differences and work towards peace, be it race, religion, region, politics, caste and opinion; it needs to be more healthy in the interest of humanity.

.... between "I like you" and "I love you? "

Beautifully answered by Buddha :

When you like a flower, you just pluck it.

But when you love a flower, you water it daily.

One who understand this, understands life.

I dont normally leave messages like this but...

The world has been tipped upside down with Covid and some of us are trapped in situations beyond our control. Stress and Depression are serious issues and our mental health is often brushed aside without proper consideration of the impact it has on us further down the line.

It can be really hard to ask for help when your feeling low, but help is out there, and that hlep wants you to talk to them, they really do.

Those not feeling low, lets do our best to love and look out for one another, and if you can pass on a smile to a stranger it can make all the difference to their day. Smiles can be seen through masks, their in our eyes too, and a smile is more contagious than Covid... So I will make sure my next picture will be a happy one.

Greater difference between this image and the one I posted this morning shot on the first of December and the one I shot today. A stark b&w image withe the best light available this morning. I like them those contrasts.

First time trying to recreate a photo. The light situation was similar. It was interesting for me to see how much the Planet guys worked on their image. I think they had to do an HDR to get those details and colours in the shadows. Also, some more heavy manipulation happening beside the changes time did to this situation.

What a difference 30 minutes and 24 km makes, we arrived in Zutphen damp but drying out the sun actually tried to break through several times after leaving the car at a nearby parking lot exploring our way to the old town of this lovely historic Hanseatic town.

Zutphen has been inhabited for over 1700 years and was founded by the Franks during the time of the Roman Empire making it one of Holland’s oldest cities.

Being founders of the Hanseatic League the town has always been prosperous and despite its small size boasts over 450 national monuments thanks to its long wealthy history.

When you are slogging about dripping wet hunched over loaded down with camera gear in the pissing rain you just have to persevere and hope for a break in the weather or good spots that can shield you from the wet while shooting.

For most travel photographers its not like we will always have another opportunity to be back in the same direction so good wet weather gear and umbrellas are the order of the day when traveling in the fall most especially in the Netherlands.

Captured here is the pedestrian mall leading to the Tower of the Walburgis church which was at one time 113m tall but since 1600 reduced to a mere 76m though small in stature it is still a beauty and has been around since the 13th century ushering the locals to sermon.

I took this on September 19th, 2017 with my D750 and Nikon 28-300mm f/3.5-5.6 Lens at 28mm 1/8s, f/11 ISO 100 processed in LR, PS +Lumenzia, Topaz , Luminar and DXO

The Victoria and Albert Museum: Examples of the works of Art in the Museum – South Kensington Museum – Volumes 1 & 2

Sometime ago I posted some illustrations from Volume 1 of the above book and hoped I that would be able to find those items in the museum itself and then photograph them. This will be the second set of postings. This time they are of illustrations 16 – 30 from the book. As usual I investigated the V & A Search the Collections site for any further information. This is what I found (photographed) or in the case of those items in storage or drawings, didn’t find.

I have used 1881 throughout as the purchase date, as that was the date of publishing of the book. I fully expect the clue to be in the museum ref, however I don’t suppose it makes a fantastic amount of difference to my posting. This is the first half 16 – 23.
