What makes us Huskies, makes all the difference.

Following our instincts. Pushing on where others turn back. Taking care of our own. Huskies come from all walks of life, but charge forward as a team. It’s a spirit that defines our pack and a grit that stands out wherever we go. From the classroom to the sports field to the workforce, discover what it means to take on any climb like a Husky.

The reason this project is called "uncultured" is because I'm just one guy and I am doing this with no real sophisticated planning to it. I came to Bangladesh to try and make a difference for the poor and, now, with Cyclone Sidr's impact on the country my focus has turned to disaster relief. Here is some of the equipment I hope to get into the hands of those who really need it. I am hoping to be able to partner with an NGO that can help me get to the affected areas and help me distribute these items - so far no luck. Items are:

A) LifeStraws (45 items) - a portable water purification device capable of filtering out harmful bacteria such as e-coli and other deadly bacteria. One per person - not to be shared. Donated by Vestergaard Frandsen.

B) ZeroFly (25 items) - insecticide treated sheeting that can be used as a roofing for low income housing. It's long lasting insecticide means it can repel (and kill) the mosquitos that carry either Dengue Fever or Malaria. Dual protection. Donated by Vestergaard Frandsen.

C) Blankets (70 items) - locally made, locally purchased (cost to me: 14,000 taka or over $200 USD). Newspapers are just to keep dust off them.

D) Empty Bottles (quantity unknown) - can be used to store boiled or filtered water, can also be given in lieu of money as they are easily tradable.

Spent Easter at my Dad's in Eastern PA, right in the heart of Amish country. I was really hoping to find the perfect shot with a buggy far enough in the distance and situated in the right orientation to be able to take a picture without offending the passengers. That didn't happen. However, as we headed out of town, I noticed an Amish carriage pulling up in line behind us at a traffic light. I figured this would be a unique shot, and also would protect the privacy of those in the buggy.

Rick Hansen Wheels in Motion - Colourwheels Art Gala 2010

ColourWheels was one of Vancouver’s most unique and inspiring events for 2010.

The gala evening showcased both visual and performing artists who were brought together by one common thread: spinal cord injury.

ColourWheels provided an exciting opportunity to meet the artists, experience their art forms, and make a difference in the lives of people with spinal cord injury.

Guests had the opportunity to bid on selected pieces and enjoyed fine wines and hors d’oeuvres while being entertained with music.

Funds raised support Rick Hansen Wheels In Motion.

Nuance. Holding this journal, the difference is tangible. Not a perfect book, but perfect for someone. The Zerkall Frankfurt paper is truly lovely.

9.75" x 7" 96 sheets (192 pages, both sides)

Materials

>About the leather: Kodiak Oil-Tanned Leather, dark brown.

Here is a leather as rugged as its name implies. This oil-tanned leather has pronounced grain that gives character to the soft hide that is durable and moisture resistant. 4 oz.

The leather detail on front cover flap is a bit of green nubuck cowhide (an old favorite).

>About the paper: Frankfurt, Ivory, by Zerkall

Characterized by irregular 'wavy' laid lines and the sexy Zerkall watermark, Frankfurt is a delight to handle. Writing on this artisan paper versus commercial paper is a world of difference. But don't take my word for it!

Zerkall Renker & Sohne paper mill, run by the Renker family in its fourth generation, dates from 16th century in the valley of the river Kall between Cologne and Aachen in Germany. Although the mill now only manufactures mouldmade papers, their sheets mirror papers of the past while incorporating modern technology to insure stability and permanence. Zerkall mixes exacting amounts of cotton rag and high alpha cellulose to obtain sheets that are strong, yet able to absorb ink without bleeding. All their papers are acid free, neutral sized, alkaline buffered with calcium carbonate and contain no optical brighteners.

>About the endpaper: Egyptian Papyrus

Papyrus was, and continues today to be handmade from the papyrus reed that grows in freshwater marshes along the river Nile, though today this growth is rare and controlled. Egyptians considered it the "everlasting" paper because it has been found in perfect condition in tombs dating back to 2700 B.C.

The white-throated sparrow has an eyebrow with a yellow spot between its eye and its beak and the white of its throat is bordered with black at the bottom.

There are two morphotypes with strong differences. One with an ocher crown (or buff coloured eyebrow) [shown here] and the other with a white crown (or white eyebrow). Sexual dimorphism, one male and the other female? Yes and no… There are males of both types and females of both types and this results in cross-breeding: males of one type (eg white eyebrow) almost always mate with a female of the other type (e.g. buff coloured eyebrow), and vice versa.

Portion of this text revised from Stéphane Quintin's report.

Here you can see what I mentioned before. It's the height of the body, different roof shape and different location of the a.c.. The best thing you can do is to go to a bus depot (Morchit for example) and see them when they are parked next to each other. Hope this helps.

Sometimes it is necessary to be able to mark the difference without thinking what they could say

This rickshaw puller was trying to save himself from rain under a shade. May be he was afraid of getting cold or fever, which would be disastrous for him. In front of him few young boy and girl were enjoying the rain with ice-cream in hand!

Difference concept. buoys floating on water. Black and white

"I establish boundaries which determine both what is collected and where it is collected from. Accumulating and assembling single-coloured objects, I consider the psychological influence of colour, its effect and sensory impact upon the viewer.”

Chroma is the culmination of Manchester artist Liz West’s interests and ideas over a five-year period. This new body of work, site-specific to BLANKSPACE, explores the themes of colour theory, collecting and the exploration of real and illusory space.

West’s playful and magical works, each of which she builds by hand, consist of unexpected and carefully arranged combinations of materials. Systems of ordering, classification and coding are applied in the development and generation of West’s work. She invokes the monumental, whilst utilising commonplace objects that are found and collected from the world around her

“War is what happens when language fails.”

I really love this picture. Between this one and the tobyMac one later on in my photostream, I can't decide which one is my favorite concert picture I've taken.

St Mary, Pulham St Mary, Norfolk

As at neighbouring Pulham Market, Pulham St Mary is dominated by its grand, mostly Perpendicular church, this one set on a rise above the village street in a wide graveyard. There are similarities between the two churches, but differences too. St Mary's tower is earlier and is rather more feminine, with its pretty pinnacles and large bell openings. And, of course, there is the most famous feature of either church, St Mary's gorgeous late 15th century porch, perhaps the best in Norfolk and the equal of many of Suffolk's finest. Tower and porch work together to create a sense of grandeur, but in fact this is not a huge church, and there is no aisle on the north side.

The porch is magnificent. Actually not as large as it appears, its two storeys are flanked by ranges of flushwork panelling, which become, from the top on the front, ranks of stone niches, angels holding shields, angels with musical instruments and then more niches. Pride of place, in the spandrels of the doorway, is the Annunciation, of the highest artistic quality and in lovely condition.

You step into an interior which at first sight disappoints a little, because the north side of the nave is stark, climbing as it does to the heights of the clerestory opposite.

Pevsner records that Bodley's restoration cost an astonishing £5,000, around a cool million in today's money, and it is rather hard to see what they got for their cash. The painting and gilding of the 15th century font is an example; it is rich and opulent now, and you aren't half glad this didn't happen more often, but it seems to have been coloured to match Bodley's font cover, as if he was looking for jobs to do.

However, we can't know what state such a large church might have been in by the late 19th century, and turning east, the picture is more pleasing, for Pulham St Mary still has ranks of low key 15th century benches, which it must have been tempting to replace. They face a magnificent rood screen, partly medieval and partly the work of Mr Bodley. Thanks be to God that he didn't repaint the panels, for they are large and filled with 15th century images of the Apostles. St John is particularly striking, the little dragon in his chalice seemingly about to take flight. St James is fine too. There is some fragmentary 15th century glass, including two almost complete figures of St Barbara and St Catherine. There is a 16th Century roundel of St Lawrence high in the east window. The Victorian glass is probably the largest scheme in East anglia by Burlison & Grylls, all in their painterly style. A lot of the money probably went on it.

Bodley had the chancel roof repainted in reds and greens, with sacred monograms. Some of these monograms are more elaborate than others, and I wondered for a moment if the simpler ones were actually 15th century originals. A cute skull and crossed bones is incised on a ledger stone in the aisle, its occupant reminding us that Hodie Mihi, Cras Tibi - 'today this is mine, tomorrow it's yours'. Turning west, the most striking sight is the extraordinary stairway up to the ringers' floor of the tower. It starts in the most south-easterly corner of the aisle, and rises with just a single rail to reach a precipitous platform, dangled nightmarishly at the top of the tower arch. There is something similar under the crossing at Ketton in Rutland. It must have replaced a ladder. I, who have no head for heights, would not have dared walk up it for all Mr Bodley's thousands.
