The difference between a "Burg" and a "Schloss" (castle) is that a Burg is more like a fortress, built for protection from the enemies, and a Schloss was for the nobility to reside in, and very lavishly decorated.
Over time, some of the Burgs were also turned into castles.
Burg Eltz is somewhat unusual, in that it's been in the same family that had it built over 850 years ago, and Count and Countess Eltz still live there today.

North and South Windows under the Milky Way last night. It was magical there in the darkness. Perfect temperature to hike in, and very very quiet. Quite the difference from sunset, when lots of people would be around.

Heading back out to explore some more after sleeping in ... missed the sunrise this morning after being up so late.

The Chestnut-naped Antpitta is a typical ground-dwelling Grallaria, although it sings from a low perch, and which strongly prefers bamboo thickets in humid montane forest at 1900 to 3150 m. Its geographical range extends from north-central Colombia to northernmost Peru. As is typical of the Grallariidae, very little has been published to date concerning this species’ ecology, although the eggs have been described, and the Chestnut-naped Antpitta is presumably a fairly strict insectivore. Three species of the Chestnut-naped Antpitta are recognized and these differ principally in their crown colour and the intensity of the saturation to the underparts, although there are also some differences in their vocalizations. The basic plumage pattern, common to all three, is of gray underparts with a darker face, and rufous-brown upperparts, usually brightest and most rufescent over the crown and nape. doi.org/10.2173/bow.chnant1.01

This is a fall female and you can see the differences from the previous post. She is a rather dull female so she could be a first fall bird as sometimes it is hard to age this species. Notice the uniform brownish appearance of the face patch without any black along the upper and/posterior edge as you would be expected in a first fall male. First fall males also tend to have more black in the plumage dorsally. I did a more distant crop to bring in some of the early fall yellows in the leaves. My settings were a bit much here but in early morning with different lighting around and rapidly changing lighting with different birds in a flock moving around sometimes you just have to grab the shot with what you have.

Been over a week since I've posted & active in Flicker. I've hopped over a great big pond called the Pacific Ocean. Jet lag due to the 16 hour time difference between San Francisco & South East Asia plus had to get my internet connection.
Haven't done any birding yet or bird photography. Hope to get some tropical birds on this adventure.

Vijzelgracht metro station is one of the new stations of the North/South Line and is designed by Benthem Crouwel Architects. With the 47-metre-long escalator travelers will bridge a difference in altitude of 19,57 m. This at a depth of about 26 metres.

Arnhem CS is the central station of the city of Arnhem, the capital of the Dutch province of Gelderland. The design for Arnhem Centraal uses the natural differences in height in the city. Station Arnhem CS is designed by Architect Ben van Berkel.
The Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau (with the snow-covered Silberhorn to its right) as seen from near the start of the path from the Männlichen cable car to Kleine Scheidegg. The two smaller peaks in deep shadow are the Tschuggen (L) and Lauberhorn, famous for its World Cup downhill ski race. With an incline of up to 42 per cent, over 1000 metres of difference in altitude in two and a half minutes, it's the longest skiing descent in the world and the race with the fastest passage in the World Cup (over 160 km/h!). I'll stick to my 4.5km/h walking pace, thank you.

Absolutely fuming that my main target of the day was the only time two trains passed one another here! Looking absolutely pristine, 43049 heads south from Penrith with the 1Z71 Carlisle-Plymouth as a frustratingly close pendo heads north with a Euston-Glasgow service. Had the HST not been a few minutes late and had the pedno not been 8 minutes down there would've been around 10 minutes difference but as fate would have it, it didn't go my way again and for the second time in 4 days I got bowled by a passenger service.
The length of the river is 12 km. The Adylsu River Valley is included in the Elbrus National Park. The territory of the valley is a mountainous area with an elevation difference from 2248 to 2770 meters above sea level with a slope steepness of 16-33 degrees.

Greater difference between this image and the one I posted this morning shot on the first of December and the one I shot today. A stark b&w image withe the best light available this morning. I like them those contrasts.

Captures taken about 12 hours apart. Both were at two seconds exposure time, one at ISO 100 and a 400ND Filter on, and the other at ISO 3200.
The old Oxford County Hall, built in 1841, at night. It's still used as such but new County Hall offices were built next door (on the left) when the old ones got to small. The difference in architecture is evident!
What a difference 30 minutes and 24 km makes, we arrived in Zutphen damp but drying out the sun actually tried to break through several times after leaving the car at a nearby parking lot exploring our way to the old town of this lovely historic Hanseatic town.
Zutphen has been inhabited for over 1700 years and was founded by the Franks during the time of the Roman Empire making it one of Holland’s oldest cities.
Being founders of the Hanseatic League the town has always been prosperous and despite its small size boasts over 450 national monuments thanks to its long wealthy history.
When you are slogging about dripping wet hunched over loaded down with camera gear in the pissing rain you just have to persevere and hope for a break in the weather or good spots that can shield you from the wet while shooting.
For most travel photographers its not like we will always have another opportunity to be back in the same direction so good wet weather gear and umbrellas are the order of the day when traveling in the fall most especially in the Netherlands.
Captured here is the pedestrian mall leading to the Tower of the Walburgis church which was at one time 113m tall but since 1600 reduced to a mere 76m though small in stature it is still a beauty and has been around since the 13th century ushering the locals to sermon.
I took this on September 19th, 2017 with my D750 and Nikon 28-300mm f/3.5-5.6 Lens at 28mm 1/8s, f/11 ISO 100 processed in LR, PS +Lumenzia, Topaz , Luminar and DXO
