There 's nothing like cool temperatures and fresh air to raise the spirits. during my forays to the Alabama Hills the temperature can get up into the 100's and when they do, this is where I seek refuge. At around 9000 ft in elevation the difference in temperature is about 15 degrees and there nothing better the a fine mist that floats away from the falls right onto your weary soul.

Another from that beautiful sunrise on Saturday down at Steetley Pier in Hartlepool.

The difference between a "Burg" and a "Schloss" (castle) is that a Burg is more like a fortress, built for protection from the enemies, and a Schloss was for the nobility to reside in, and very lavishly decorated.

Over time, some of the Burgs were also turned into castles.

Burg Eltz is somewhat unusual, in that it's been in the same family that had it built over 850 years ago, and Count and Countess Eltz still live there today.

The Lauterbrunnen valley is one of the deepest in the Alps, comparing the height difference of the adjacent mountains and the valley floor. In some places the cliff walls are 1000 m high. Streams flowing down the mountains, at the edge of the rocky valley walls, form high waterfalls. The most famous of these are the Staubbach Falls (visible on the right) and the Trummelbach Falls. The 297 m high Staubbach Falls is the tallest free-fall waterfall in Switzerland.

Dolina Lauterbrunnen jest jedną z najgłębszych w Alpach, porównując różnicę wysokości przyległych gór i dno doliny. W niektórych miejscach ściany klifu mają wysokość sięgającą 1000 m. Here's a Red-shouldered Hawk on its way to the nest with some additional nesting material. I believe that the Florida Red-shouldered breed earlier than the species in other parts of the country. Once site had them breeding from January to May when general reference books state the species breed from May to July. In any event, I'm hoping that they are not just faking us out and that we have some new chicks to celebrate. In the course of my reading I learned that the females are larger than the males (probably smarter too) and that the pair are monogamous. Having said that, I've never been able to see the size difference but will pay more attention in the future. Happy 2023 everyone. (Buteo lineatus)

World desperately is in need of cutting out the differences and work towards peace, be it race, religion, region, politics, caste and opinion; it needs to be more healthy in the interest of humanity.

A winter day near my home.

A large resident owl usually found around rocky places, ledges and rock quarries. These birds prefer these habitats and are often found sitting quietly on one of the ledges or on a tree nearby. The bird - around 50 - 60 cms is one of the larger owls in the country.

Just like other large owls, they are usually found in pairs. But this one was alone in a quarry. And there were dozen's of swallows that were quite unhappy with the Owl and were constantly dive bombing on it. The owl didn't care since they are no danger to it. Several rounds of dive bombing made no difference to the Owl who tracked it a few times, but ignored it entirely - as if saying "You can't touch me".

I suspect that the Owl was making a meal of these Swallows every night since the ledges where the Swallows perch and nest had a lot of white markings indicating Owl droppings.
