Jack's turn as Special Person of the Week at school. Prepares a little board to talk about and then fields questions from the class.
A bit late in uploading it (yet not nearly as late as i was running a month or two ago). Yes. Here it is. Myo's final shot to complete the 2012 photo-a-day assignment. And i see i have the dual of honour of achieving both 2nd and last place! Wooh!
And in this appropriately-chosen New Year's Eve shot i am celebrating the end of the year with the traditional viewing of the fireworks dissection of the mudwasp nest.
In most of the cells, the eggs had hatched into larvae, eaten their food supply, spun their cocoons and turned into adult wasps. The new wasps probably wished i'd delayed a couple more days, by which time they would have probably been fully developed and off to make their own mudwasp nests and offspring. The contents of one cocoon looked rather ... fluid: metamophosis to wasp still in progress, or gone wrong. And the final couple of cells (like the back one in the photo) were full of spiders, food not consumed by a failed egg.
So as you see, we have a combination of an oldness of spiders and a newness of wasps which is why the Opening of the Mudwasp Nest is a traditional event carried out by people all over the world on new years eve.
