Orlestone is three hundred and eighty eight hectares in size. It is predominantly mixed native broadleaves and a small percentage of conifer.
The area is a SSSI (Site of Special Scientific Interest), managed principally for birds and butterflies.
There is a medium sized car park and picnic area, with a height barrier at the main entrance. . All roads are unsurfaced. As it is very low lying, it has a tendency to flood in winter.
Lydd Ranges is a military firing range south of Lydd, in Kent, England, extending as far as the south coast.
It has been used for military training for over 150 years and is part of the Dungeness, Romney Marsh and Rye Bay Site of Special Scientific Interest.Because the range is used for live firing, access is sometimes restricted - red flags are flown during these times, and access is prohibited along the foreshore and Galloways Road. Also, red lights are shown at restricted times if there is poor weather. The danger area extends out to sea, and mariners sailing to and from Rye Harbour must pass south of the Stephenson Shoal to avoid it. Firing occurs about 300 days a year. When firing is not taking place, it may be possible to walk along a designated path along the shore

My parents' best friends' twins (the little girl behind me and the boy behind the wine bottle) were born on my dad's birthday. Every year, we get together for dinner and cake and to celebrate our families together.
Some years it's just been hot dogs or pizza, but it's a tradition we all love.
This bird is clearly having fun. It dove repeatedly to feed in the mud (in maybe 1-2 ft water), sometimes getting a little dirty. Oso Flaco Lake.
