A two-year old Daimler Fleetline CRG6LXB with Roe body in the fleet of Manchester independent A. Mayne & Son, loading in Stevenson Square, Manchester on Tuesday 12th October 1978.
I have no way of looking it up now, but the Greater Manchester PTE bus on the opposite side of the road must be a front-entrance Leyland Titan, probably originating in the Manchester Corporation fleet, or perhaps that of one of the neighbouring municipalities. If anyone has a contemporary fleet list, its number is 3084 (FRJ 238D). It would be nice to hear again the flutey note of its Leyland 0.600 exhaust.
Derived from the Jaguar MkII after the Daimler company was purchased by Jaguar in 1960, the Daimler V8 and later 250 had no real distinguishing differences between itself and the MkII apart from different badging and the use of Daimler's last engine, the 2.5L V8.
In 1967 this was replaced by one of Jaguar's in house engines, again a 2.5L V8 and the car was dubbed the Daimler V8 250.
1950s Daimler. The current owner bought it in England from a garage that was closing down. It was a funeral following car.

Stu Wrigley beside his fabulous Daimler. Unfortunately it was parked in a tight spot and I don't have a wide angle lens for the MPP, so you can't see much of the car! 5x4" clear glass ambrotype. MPP with 150 mm lens, 4 seconds @ f/5.6 in bright cloud.
Another dreadfully uninspired shot, this time the Daimler Sovereign I used to have. 4.2 litre car, just the thing for a hard-up 20-odd year old to be using on his daily 40-mile round-trip to work. At least, that's what I thought at the time, this was an economy car, cheap to run having just traded down from a DS420..........

I Brought this one in 1996 & immediately spent an additional £2600 on a set of 18" tri-spokes!
I was one of the 1st people to stick 18`s on an XJ40 & its quite possibly the only Daimler in the world on 18 inch trispokes!
Tasteful? debatable, but I do love the way it looks when your driving slow... like one of them cardboard horses I did as a kid with the Isle of Man flag inspired 3 leg wheels!
She`s currently sitting at the back of my parents waiting for me to fit the engine back in (unlikely to happen)!

Dating from 1948, this was the first post war hearse owned by Ipswich Co-op. The vehicle is registered PV 8784 and is powered by a Daimler straight six engine. It remained in use until the early 1970s and was presented to the collection in 1972.
An engine rebuild and mechanical overhaul were started during 1990s but not finished
One of my real pleasures is my collection of drawings, and that of the Aldridge Transport Museum. Today, I wanted to see the details of the rear hub construction of the 1935 Daimler COG5. So a quick look at Birmingham CT's original boxes of contract drawings, and there's just what I want.
This is the cross-section through the wheel stud area, showing the wheels are located on the coned studs and nuts. Daimler not only used studs with backnuts, but also fitted dowels to stop any risk of their becoming loose.
